This Week in Reading: Figuring Out What To Read

Hi all. Everything has been pretty busy for me since my dad died, have had to spend a good amount of time helping take care of some things with my mom. Took her furniture shopping on Saturday since my father wouldn’t let her buy new furniture for over 35 years and everything was falling apart. Anywho.

I finished reading a book! I finally finished Vespertine by Margaret Rogerson. I quite liked it although I do think Sorcery of Thorns might still be my favorite of her books. I hope to have a review up for it one of these days, whenever I get back to writing those things.

I also received some more books in the mail!

First up is Cat Valente’s new book – Comfort Me With Apples. This will only be my second read by her but I’m looking forward to it especially because it doesn’t feel like my normal type of read. Next is the 10th anniversary Owlcrate edition of The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater. This is the 2nd copy they had to send me because the first copy arrived without the signed page bound in. Last but not least is The Vanished Queen by Lisbeth Campbell. Can’t quite remember where I had heard of this one but I think maybe twitter? Either way once I checked out the blurb it seemed exactly like my type of book. Also I just love that cover.

Not quite sure what I’ll be reading this week because I finished my previous book (finally!) just last night. I may read a romance–I’ve had a few of those arrive on my kindle app recently. I guess I’ll see where my mood takes me. What are you reading this week? Leave a note in the comments, I’d love to chat!

Sorry to hear about your loss Lisa, sending hugs and hope your taking care of yourself! 💕 I’m unsure of what to read this week because I’m going back and forth between YA and Adult fantasy, there’s so many great books out there I cannot decide.

I was totally expecting there to be romance in Vespertine, and while I still ended up thoroughly loving it without romance, I definitely like Sorcery of Thorns better for several reasons, but mostly because of the romance. Rogerson is just so good at it, and I was bummed to see that there was none in Vespertine. It wouldn’t have really belonged, either, but expectations made me keep looking for it.

Yes exactly to all of that. Well, I think Vespertine is part one of a duology iirc so I am holding out hope that there will be romance eventually but even without it it was still a great book! She just does the main characters so well.
