Wow, June is over? How did that happen? Once again in June I had ZERO reviews. But I did read some books even though my blogging has fallen off a lot. I keep meaning to get back to normal but it seems my brain is not quite ready yet. At this point it may take the rest of the summer before I start to get back into the swing of things blogging-wise. Sigh. I do miss the community~!
The breakdown:
- 7 novels, 1 long-ass webtoon
- 2 Speculative Fiction — both Fantasy
- 5 Romance – all Contemporary
- 1 Historical Fiction
- 4 YA, 1 NA, 3 Adult
FAVORITE READS OF THE MONTH:
Well I only technically read two speculative fiction books for the month but one of the romances was also sort of speculative fiction in that it involved a wonky sort of stuck in time plot. So not a whole lot to choose from but here I go:
- One Last Stop by Casey McQuiston. I had high hopes for this one because I absolutely LOVED Red, White and Royal Blue. The writing in this one was really different but I loved it too, for different reasons. The heroine is this is so different from our main character in RW&RB and the style of writing reflects that in a lot of ways. If this wasn’t done to perfection the style would have ruined it for me because its normally a style that is a major turn off for me but this book was amazing and it can’t be denied. The story and the characters were all great but I especially loved the found family element.
- The Fire’s Stone by Tanya Huff. This is an older book but I’ve been reading Huff’s backlist for a while now and really enjoying almost everything. I hadn’t planned on reading this one this month but here we are. This was a fairly generic plot in a fairly generic setting but the characters really made it for me, just absolutely loved them and their way they worked together and their relationships developed. This is also a queer story! Unexpectedly and delightfully so.
PLANS FOR JULY:
Not really making any plans or even attempting a TBR. I think my only ‘plan’ will be to try and finish more books than I did in June. Maybe I’ll write a bunch of mini-reviews or something so that I can get back on track. I don’t know. All I do know is that I’ll be reading and hopefully enjoying my reading and that’s what counts.
Anyway, that about sums up my very non-active month lol. How was your month? Leave a note in the comments, I’d love to chat!
I am glad you enjoyed One Last Stop so much! I haven’t read it yet, but since I loved RW&RB I was curious and now I can read it without fear!!
One Last Stop was really good. It’s definitely a different vibe from RW&RB but still great! Hope you enjoy it.
I’ve been curious about One Last Stop, and it sounds pretty good. I hope your July is good and that you enjoy yourself without worrying too much about blogging😁
Thanks, Tammy! I was so worried I wouldn’t like OnE Last Stop, so that a was a huge relief haha. Hope you have a wonderful July!
Hopefully, July will have loads of 5* books 🙂
Thank you! I hope so. 🙂
I’m so curious, what webtoon did you read??
I think the one I counted as reading was To Love Your Enemy but I also binge read to catch up on True Beauty because it had been over a year since I had last read that one. There are others I read when new episodes come out too, I am becoming a webtoon addict haha.
My end of month blogging feel off a bit, I ended up skipping on a few of my regular posts. Just wasn’t feeling pulling all the stuff together and I was busy doing a bunch of errands before my vacation this weekend and I just said naaaah lol. Rest and reset, right? Hoping to get some reading done on vacation, I’m driving up the coast with my parents – hopefully the gene that let’s me read in cars still holds strong!
I really fell off so I totally get it, haha! I’ve been feeling very ‘blah’ lately but trying to enjoy the not so blah times when they’re here. I hope you enjoyed your vacation!
I’m glad you liked One Last Stop, I absolutely love Red, White and Royal Blue last year so I’m both excited to read McQuinston’s newest book and anxious it’s not going to be as good!
One Last Stop was written is such a different style but I totally loved it! I hope you love it too.
I’m considering to go the mini review route too because I’m backed up on reviews but haven’t been in the mood to do them recently.
I’m just so behind at this point that it’s gotten pretty ridiculous~ Best of luck!
I had a similar month! And a similar start to this month, haha. After nearly six full months of reading every single day, I’ve finally missed a couple days, and I honestly think it was needed. I’m feeling much more motivated now to read all the books in July, and I’m excited to see where the month takes us!
This month I don’t even know what I’ve read. Maybe one book? And a crap ton of manga? What is even life anymore? LOL. I don’t even know what motivation is haha. I wish I could find some of that. 😉
Hope you’ve been having a good month, Mary!
Oh my gosh, SAME, Lisa! I’ve read a grand total of three books, and I don’t think I’m going to read any faster for the rest of the month, and it’s not a slump, but also no idea what it is? I’m just exhausted and can’t make myself do anything, hahahaha, whyyyy.
Right exactly. I’m not in a slump either because I’m still reading other things but…. ???? Yeah, it’s weird! I hope we can both get back to ‘normal’ soon. ❤
