Time for another round up of books from my TBR to go through! Each week I’ll be going over a selection from my physical unread books and deciding what to keep and what to purge. There will be a third option–undecided–which I might ask for your input on why you think I should keep or purge that title from my list. You can also check out my full TBR pile here.
An Alchemy of Masques and Mirrors by Curtis Craddock
Born without the sorcery that is her birthright but with a perspicacious intellect, Isabelle believes her marriage will stave off disastrous conflict and bring her opportunity and influence. But the last two women betrothed to this prince were murdered, and a sorcerer-assassin is bent on making Isabelle the third. Aided and defended by her loyal musketeer, Jean-Claude, Isabelle plunges into a great maze of prophecy, intrigue, and betrayal, where everyone wears masks of glamour and lies. Step by dangerous step, she unravels the lies of her enemies and discovers a truth more perilous than any deception.
Like a lot of books, I’ve had this one in my TBR for a while now. But the cover really caught my eye and one of my friends loooooves this series so I’m keen to get to it still. One of these days. KEEP
The Magic Cottage by James Herbert
The cottage seemed perfect – charming, maybe a little run-down, but so peaceful. That was the first part of the magic. But it had an alternative side – the Bad Magic.
I don’t know how this got into my pile. I think this may be one my husband picked up and was like ‘here, read this’ because he does that sometimes when a book interests him but he doesn’t feel like reading it LOL. But I’m really not interested at all. PURGE
River of Stars by Guy Gavriel Kay
In an empire divided by bitter factions circling an exquisitely cultured emperor who loves his gardens and his art far more than the burdens of governing, dramatic events on the northern steppe alter the balance of power in the world, leading to events no one could have foretold, under the river of stars.
I actually started reading this one years ago when I picked it up from the local Barnes and Noble, but for some reason I got distracted and put it down. It’s weird because I distinctly remember it in my mind, like my brain has been place-holding it all this time for whenever I pick it back up. I was enjoying the writing a lot and do hope to get back to this one day. KEEP
The Demon and the City by Liz Williams
The second Detective Inspector Chen novel (after Snake Agent) returns us to Singapore Three. A mysterious murder sends Chen and his demonic partner Zhu Irzh on the trail of a conspiracy between hell and one of the heavenly hosts.
I’m not quite sure when I picked this one up. It seems familiar, vaguely, and I do remember hearing of this series. I think it looks interesting but I’m not sure if it’s interesting enough to stay in my TBR pile and it’s book 2 of a series where I don’t have book 1. UNDECIDED
Slow Burn by Tommy Wallach
After their devastating journey from the Anchor to Sophia, Clive and Clover Hamill, Gemma Poplin, and Paz Dedios have all been separated—not only in space, but in their convictions. In the Anchor, Clive would like nothing better than to never speak with Paz again, but when he is tapped to help with her interrogation, the two of them begin to reconcile their differences, which don’t run nearly as deep as they expected.
And here’s another one that is book 2 of a series where I don’t have book 1. This one was sent to me by a publisher for review and although it looks pretty interesting it doesn’t really feel like it’s in my wheelhouse so I think I’ll pass this one on. PURGE
That’s all for now! This brings my total count to:
Keep | Purge | Undecided |
369 | 125 | 72 |
Another two purges and an undecided, woo! Continuing to make good progress on getting that TBR down. Of course I’ve probably added the number of books I’ve purged to my TBR with new purchases since I began this. Oh well. Anything you’d do differently? Leave a note in the comments, I’d love to chat!
Ugh, I also have a copy of Alchemy of Masques and Mirrors that is just staring at me, begging me to read it. Bought it two years ago (three years ago?) and nope, it’s just been there unread this whole time. Argh.
The life of a book worm haha. I would make a vow to read it this year but honestly those sorts of vows have not worked out well for me in the past LOL.
Saaaame lol.
I have the second and third books following the Alchemy of Masques and Mirrors – I really need to catch up.
Lynn 😀
I should probably hunt those down too at some point, I think I’ll end up loving the series.
