The Sunday Post #40

thesundaypost

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated Reviewer. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

Random News And Goings-On

Our bathroom remodel set to start mid-week! They’re going to do the bathroom first and then the kitchen sometime mid-September as we’re waiting for the appliances to arrive (appliance shortage is one of the odd manufacturing shortages of the pandemic). They said a week and a half for the bathroom but I’m hoping they’ll get it done sooner because we only have the one full bath and a toilet in the back of the basement where spiders like to dwell. Anyway, some of this weekend time is being spent prepping for this work to get done.

This past week I did get some reading in and am happy with my progress, more on that tomorrow though. Work was pretty chill as my boss went on another vacation. Things are slow still and that is worrying–if they don’t pick up soon we might go out of business! I might hate my workplace but it’s better than nothing.

Also this past week I wasn’t feeling great. Not pandemic related but I think a lack of sleep plus, too much caffeine, eating like crap and sleeping wrong left me with various ailments throughout the week. Weird neck ache which turned into a massive headache, then feeling woozy and sick half a day, nerve endings felt raw from exhaustion, heart palpitations from anxiety. Then suddenly my wrist kept getting a shooting pain but it’s not the tendons or anything like that and feels like a nerve? Who knows, your body gets weird when it starts getting old. I’m hoping that this week I’ll be feeling mostly better.

New Book Arrivals at Way Too Fantasy

Physical Books

Only one new physical book, but it’s a pretty one. I tried to get a sprayed edge copy of Harrow the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir to match the sprayed edges of the first one but everywhere ran out before I could get one, womp womp. Nevertheless, happy to add this to my TBR. At some point I’ll start this series. πŸ™‚

Ebooks

Went on a bit of an ebook buying binge again, whoops!

  • Binti: The Complete Collection by Nnedi Okorafor (huge SFF book sale)
  • The Wolf of Oren-Yaro by K.S. Villoso (huge SFF book sale)
  • Wintersong by S. Jae Jones (huge SFF book sale)
  • Riot Baby by Tochi Onyebuchi (free download from Tor.com!)
  • Stoker’s Wilde by Steven Hopstaken and Melissa Prusi (after seeing Lynn’s review)
  • A Heart of Blood and Ashes by Milla Vane (this is Romance twitter’s fault lol)
  • The Midnight Bargain by C.L. Polk (I broke down and requested an eARC)
  • The Faerie Hounds of York (saw Stephanie Burgis talking about this on twitter)
  • Crave by Tracy Wolff (saw a review of this at The Monogamist Reader)
  • The Amiestrin Gambit by J. Kathleen Cheney (this was on sale!)
  • Stroke the Flame by Elizabeth Briggs (saw this reviewed at Sophril Reads)
  • The Prince of Secrets by A.J. Lancaster (finished book one of this series and immediately had to buy book two!)

Anyway, I know this is a lot but…I think of it as adding a ton of great books to choose from to my kindle app. πŸ™‚

Audiobooks

No audiobooks this time around but might have some next time as my audible credits will be in. Although I might use them on preorders so I can catch up on some other things I have in queue. We’ll see.

That’s the news for this week, see you next time!

Thanks, Susy! I did go a bit overboard with my ebooks haha. Feeling a bit better although it’s been up and down, I think part of it might also be seasonal allergies messing with me.
Thanks, I hope the renovation goes fast too!

We’re hoping to remodel our bathroom this year too. Except, we’re doing the remodel ourselves with the help of my dad, so I’m not looking forward to the actual work but I cannot wait to have a new bathroom. πŸ™‚

    • waytoofantasy says:

We are not handy at all so we usually hire people to do anything requiring that type of work–those are real practical skills to have and it’s good if you can do the work yourself as it will save you a ton of money.
I’m definitely looking forward to a new bathroom. The bathroom (and kitchen as well) has been the bane of my existence for the last couple of years at least.

The appliance shortage is a real thing πŸ˜‚ My husband and I moved into our house back in May and we are still waiting for a washer/dryer!

I’ve heard a lot of good stuff about the Tamsyn Muir series and hoping to read it myself soon!

  3. Tammy says:

Good luck with the remodel and I hope you feel better. One thing I’ve noticed during the pandemic is that we’re not allowed to be sick anymore, you know what I mean? Every headache, sneeze and cough could be covid. I’d give anything just to say I have a bad cold and stay home from work, but you can’t do that. Ugh. Sorry I just went off on a tangent, lol. Have a good week!

    • waytoofantasy says:

      Thanks, Tammy!
Yeah, this pandemic has had meant so many changes. I won’t lie, for a minute I was like ‘ugh massive headache, body hurts, is this covid?’ But I don’t think it is but things being what they are you really have to wonder at every sign of sickness.
Hope you have a good week, too!

Wow, so many of the aches/pains you described experiencing last week was exactly the same thing that I did too! The body aches and headaches especially… I hope you feel better next week! That cover for Harrow is gorgeous–so eye catching 😍 Also… Lol at me because I never count the e-books that I buy… I think I might terrify myself if I ever did but I totally agree with your reasoning πŸ˜‰ Have a great week ahead!

    • waytoofantasy says:

Thanks! I felt mostly okay yesterday, today I feel kind of blah again, hoping it clears up soon. Hope that you feel better as well, Dini!
I love that cover for Harrow, Tommy Arnold is one of my favorite cover artists. 😍
Ebooks almost don’t count to me haha. I don’t feel the same stress about reading them as I do my physical books. πŸ™‚
Thanks! Hope you have a great week too!

I total get all of the body pain. I’ve been dealing with one thing after the other for what seems like forever now. For the past couple of month my shoulder has been hurting me and this month the pain started going up into my neck as well which is causing me to have headaches a lot the past couple of weeks. I think I might have a pinched nerve or something. Going to try to get in to see my chiropractor tomorrow. Also spiders ugh I hate spiders so much.

  6. maddalena@spaceandsorcery says:

Remodeling the bathroom can be a very exhausting experience for the obvious reasons but having to deal with SPIDERS (eeeeekk!!) in the emergency toilet sound like too much indeed…
Here’s to completing the whole work as soon as possible! πŸ™‚

    • waytoofantasy says:

Hopefully there aren’t too many spiders when I go to clean it out–probably tonight when I get home or whatever day I ditch work before the demolition starts…if this contractor will get back to us and let us know the gods damned date already. πŸ˜‰

Hope you’re feeling better and that work picks up – it is worrying isn’t it. Not to mention damned if you do and damned if you don’t – when it’s too busy it’s stressful, and when it’s not busy it’s probably even more stressful.

Thanks, Lynn! Feeling better physically, lots of stress as our renovation started this week but I’m going to be so happy when this is over and things look new and shiny. πŸ™‚
Work is still about the same but my boss sold his condo and has an ‘in’ on an open line of credit now if need be which would be able to keep us going for a little while at least. We’ll see how things go.
