This Week in Reading: Keep On Keeping On

Hello all! Welcome to another Monday (weeeeeee!). Today my husband is calling the contractor to see if we can get an exact start date other than ‘maybe mid-week’ so that we can finish making preparations. I’ll admit I was supposed to work on things Sunday but then I didn’t feel all that well again so I loafed around, read, and watched more episodes of The Expanse with my husband (we’re now on season 3).

Anywho. Despite everything last week I did get some reading done, even though it was a little slower than normal (what with me going to bed at 830-930 almost every night). I finished three books, all SFF, and am halfway through a fourth. Not a ton of progress on my TBR or my 20 books of Summer or Bingo (even though one of the books I finished was on all of those lists, so I guess at least some progress was made). I doubt I’ll finish up my TBR for this month, but 2/3 isn’t bad! Since I’m mood reading things are very much dependent on what I feel like reading at any given moment.

So let’s see what I have planned for the week ahead!

First up, in print I am a little more than halfway through The Belles by Dhonielle Clayton. I’ve been interested in reading this one for a while but was inspired ton finally pick this up after reading a review on Zezee With Books. I’m enjoying this one so far even though it’s not exactly what I expected and the world in this one is….kind of fucked up to say the least. Looking forward to finishing this one.

In audio, I might as well try and finish up one more book on my Twenty Books of Summer challenge, so I’m going to check out The Spirit War by Rachel Aaron. I love Rachel’s books and she’s probably the author I’ve reviewed most on this blog–despite that I’ve had this one in my digital TBR for some time. This is book 4 in her Legend of Eli Monpress series, about a wily theif and rogue who is trying to get the biggest bounty on his head, and his crew of course. Can’t forget about the crew. πŸ™‚

I should be able to finish up The Belles in a day or two, after that I’m not sure what print book will be next. I should pick up the last book on my August TBR list but I probably won’t be in the mood for that just yet. I’ll have to see what I feel like reading when it comes time to choose a book. Good news is I just added a boatload of books to my kindle app (not to mention the giant physical TBR staring me in the face) so I have no shortages of things to pick from! What are you reading this week? Leave a comment, I’d love to chat!

Three books is not bad at all! I’m making my way through the Throne of Glass series at the moment after a student recommended it to me.

You’ve intrigued me about Belles though – might have to look into that!

2/3 of your TBR is definitely not bad! As a mood reader I never set TBRs and even my ‘possibility piles’ get mostly ignored after making a post about them πŸ˜‚ I’ve been wanting to read The Belles for a while now too and I’m so keen to hear what you think of it when you finish! Defo curious about this fucked up world you mention! LOL

    • waytoofantasy says:

Yeah but I only had three books on my list hahahaha. πŸ™‚
I like the idea of thinking of them as ‘possibility piles’ that takes some of the pressure off.
Enjoying The Belles, probably will have a review out until next month at some point. I’ll definitely be mentioning my thoughts on the world LOL.

My head is spinning from all the books i still need to read this month, so I know what you mean. I really want to start my September pile because I have so many good books on it, so I might ditch August for September😁

  4. Gemma (abookishblether) says:

67% of your TBR completed is amazing, I set a stupendously high goal for August and all desire to read has just evaporated this month. I adore The Expanse, its one of my favourite book series and the show is fantastic!

    • waytoofantasy says:

Well I only had three books in my TBR so it’s not as impressive as it sounds hahah. I’ve been trying to do smaller TBR lists in hopes of finishing them but I’m a complete mood reader these days, it seems.
I am really loving the show! I only read the first book so far but hope to continue the series soon, I have a few other audiobooks to get through first. πŸ™‚

I have so many books I still want/need to get through this month. I’m currently reading three different books. Nutmeg Street: Egyptian Secrets by Sherrill Joseph, Ceremony in Death by J.D. Robb and Hung by Simone Sowood. I’m also hoping to start on The Vanishing by Jayne Anne Krentz. There’s so many books and not enough time to read them.

    • waytoofantasy says:

That is a lot of books! Glad you seem to be enjoying the J.D. Robb books–I know you’ve been reading those for a bit now–I keep meaning to start them myself but…..so many books LOL. Have a great week, Misty!

      • mistysbookspace says:

Yes and I just remembered I have a book that I need to beta read for the author as well!! Yeah I’ve fallen behind on the J.D. Robb books. I should be on book 8 right now but I’m just now reading book 5. I love Eve and Roarke!! I totally understand that. Thank you I hope you do as well.

That series by Rachel Aaron sounds interesting! Adding it to my TBR haah!
I’m currently reading Vicious spirits and listening to All the stars and teeth!
I hope you have a great week!

I really love all her books, she’s become one of my favorite authors. Hope you enjoy! πŸ™‚

Ooooh, can’t wait to see your thoughts on those! I hope you have a great week, too!

I am STOKED to finally be reading The Faithless Hawk. I know it just came out, so it’s not really “finally”, but I was in the middle of three other books when it arrived, so I’ve been trying to get those finished so I can, yes, FINALLY get to it. πŸ˜€ Very excited over here, haha.

    • waytoofantasy says:

I did! It was so much cotton candy overlaying all the fucked up themes dealing with body dysmorphia, did not expect that, but it was a pretty good read. Well and the romance wasn’t really a romance which was GOOD in the end because I was like ‘lol why is he so obsessed with her it makes no sense’ but of course you know all that lol. I want to read book 2 and see what happens, hopefully some of the side characters will be better developed in the sequel.

  8. @lynnsbooks says:

Yes, Belles is quite deceptive with it’s pretty pink cover and totally messed up world. Another series I need to continue with. Doh. Doomed. I’m doomed I tell you.
