The Sunday Post #19

thesundaypost

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated Reviewer. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

Random News And Goings-On

Wow, it’s been a while since I’ve done one of these! This is just going to be a short recap of where things stand currently as I’ve still been dealing with some heavy depression / anxiety lately and therefore once again am feeling stalled with everything.

This weekend my plan was to spend a lot of time reading and just get lost in books. But I’ve mostly been watching tv instead. Hopefully today will get back to reading shortly but for some reason my entire body has decided to hurt today so I also might just lay here and veg. We’ll see how things go. *crosses fingers*

As for state of the blog–I’ve managed to get most of my year-end posts out, but I do have my best of the best list coming out this Friday and after the beginning of the new year I’ll have my yearly stats post. I will probably also do a post of my favorite covers from 2019 as it gives me room to further procrastinate on writing all of these overdue reviews. 🙂

Looking forward to starting the new year and shaking off some of my reading stress–I don’t have that many ARCs and review requests left so my obligated reading pile is very small and that feels fantastic. Once I get through these last three major ARCs then it’s pretty much smooth sailing.

New Book Arrivals at Way Too Fantasy

Physical Books

I have gotten three new physical books since last update. Please excuse the lack of book picture porn for this haul — it seems I can’t stir myself even to gather books into a pile and take a picture of them. So, first up is Dead Astronauts by Jeff Vandermeer which is part of his Borne universe, although I don’t know if you have to read that one first (I bought a copy just in case though). This one looks so utterly weird (I know his stuff is new weird so not unexpected) and just my sort of thing so looking forward to it! Next up is The Guinevere Deception by Kiersten White. I was pleasantly surprised to find this in December’s OwlCrate as I’ve been curious about it. Lastly, picked up a copy of The Witch’s Kind by Louisa Morgan at my husband’s insistence while we were out shopping last weekend ‘this looks like something you would like you should buy it’. 😀

Oh! I somehow also forgot that my copy of The Hanged Man by K.D. Edwards arrived this week, but maybe because I’ve been talking about this series so much it felt like I’ve had it all this time. I just finished it this morning and it was superb. Can’t wait for the next one!

Ebooks

I have picked up SEVERAL new ebooks since my last check-in. Orbit had an ebook sale which resulted in me buying Queen of the Conquered by Kacen Callender and The Gutter Prayer by Gareth Hanrahan. Looking forward to both of those! I also saw some books mentioned around the blogosphere by some of the lovely bloggers I follow so decided to pick up The Fire’s Stone by Tanya Huff and A Violet Fire by Kelsey Quick. Both of those look like they’ll be right up my alley. Also, not pictured, but a while back one of my reading friends mentioned that I would probably like the Elemental Mysteries series by Elizabeth Hunter so I picked those up to add to Mt. TBR.

Audiobooks

I think I have actually gotten three more audiobooks than pictured above, but I’ve already mentioned them elsewhere because I listened to them right away, so I’m going to just talk about these three new arrivals. First up, Rise of the Magicks by Nora Roberts – I’m excited to finish off this trilogy and see where the story ends up! Second is Vita Nostra by Marina and Sergey Dyachenko. This has been on my radar for a while and I have an ebook already but I couldn’t resist picking up an audio copy when there was an audible sale. What can I say? I’m a bit of a book hoarder. I have problems! Anywho. Last but not least is The Lightning-Struck Heart by TJ Klune. Also picked this up during the audible sale since I very much enjoyed another book I read by Klune and wanted to check out some of his other work.

That’s the news for this week, see you next time!

I hope your depression/anxiety gets better! Hey if watch TV makes you happy, I say do it. And I’m impressed that your husband told you to pick up The Witch’s Kind! It’s going to be on my “best of” list this coming week😁

Thanks, Tammy! I’m at a period where it comes and goes, it’s always worse around this time of the year. Things will probably be better in a couple of weeks. 🙂
My husband read the blurb from Kate Elliott and said ‘Kate Elliott liked this book, you should read it’ because he knows I’m a fan of hers lol. He has his moments ❤
      Looking forward to your list!

Dead Astronauts is definitely weird. And I don’t think you absolutely have to read Borne first, but I don’t know if anything in Dead Astronauts makes sense without being familiar with the Borne universe. If I have any recommendation it’s to read them together- because DA is that weird.

I’ll look forward to your thoughts on Queen of the Conquered! I’ve been waffling on that one because the cover is so YA looking which is really not my thing, but the premise is really intriguing and I think it’s marketed as adult.

“because DA is that weird.” now I’m even more excited lol Thanks for the info! I’ll try to read Borne first then. 🙂

It’s probably going to be a little while before I get to QotC because my TBR is so vast, but hopefully not too long! Yeah, I will say that I was a little confused by the marketing for that one myself.

I also want to pick up Louisa Morgan so hopefully soon.
Hope your anxiety and depression have eased now? I think the holiday season stresses us all out and if tv helps you chill I say go for it
    Lynn 😀

Thanks! I still have some background anxiety but it is no where near as bad as it was a week or so ago. I started meditating and I’m a skeptic but it seems to be helping somehow…
