Hello all! Hope you had a wonderful week. I spent most of the week in a near constant state of anxiety because that’s just how it is now apparently. I am managing it okay though, therapy does seem to be helping. Nevertheless, anxiety sucks even when you’re managing it okay. Anywho.
The weather here took a turn for Autumn and I’m happy to have it cool off and see the humidity go away. That being said I’ll be sad when Winter arrives! The only good thing about Winter is I can wear cute knit hats and sweaters and cuddle up with hot beverages. Having to go in and out of the house in the cold, dealing with snow and ice–no thanks!
This week I got a few new books in the mail! Very hyped for The Quicksilver Court by Melissa Caruso which has been one of my most anticipated books of the year as I absolutely loved the first one of this series! Next up is the Owlcrate edition of Once Upon a Broken Heart by Stephanie Garber. I’ve yet to read one of her books but honestly this sounded right up my alley and so I thought I’d give it a try. Finally we have Jade Fire Gold by June C.L. Tan. I think I saw this one on a list somewhere a while back and thought ‘hell yeah’ and pre-ordered it. 😉
Last week I managed to finish one book–Longshadow by Olivia Atwater, the latest in her Regency Faerie Tales series. I absolutely loved this one. If you like sort of Regency Fantasy that also turns tropes on their heads and has a bunch of biting social commentary then these might be the books for you. I highly recommend them, they are exactly my cup of tea and I’m excited for whatever the author’s next book is going to be.
This week I plan on finishing up Cast in Conflict by Michelle Sagara. I’ve been reading this one on and off for a while now and want to finish it up. It’s not that it’s not grabbing me it’s just that every single book seems to be taking longer than normal right now and also physical books are even tougher because I usually don’t haul them to work with me. I did manage to make a good amount of progress on it over the weekend and am now more than halfway through so I think I can finish it up soon!
I’m also hoping that I’ll be able to get back to more blogging soon. I did get a bit of an urge this weekend to work on some posts but then that flew right by me. (I’m in an ‘organizing things around the house’ mood still–apparently, so maybe when that passes.)
What are you up to this week? Leave a note in the comments, I’d love to chat!
I think I’m officially giving up on my Halloween TBR after exactly one book read. I started rewatching season one of A Discovery of Witches to finally get around to watching season two, and that’s already got something of an academia vibe to it that certainly didn’t help when paired with the dark academia of A Lesson in Vengeance, and then I started The Haunting Season, which is historical horror stories, and I just ughhhhhh. I have no interest in campy witches or corpses in space anymore. There are so many good new releases out right now, too, that my bookshelf is kind of getting a little overwhelmed, and the idea of NOT reading Vespertine so that I can focus on an arbitrary Halloween TBR is just–what? And why?? Anyway, that was long and rambly to say that I’ve thrown caution to the wind and started reading preorders this week, oh well!
Oh I forgot there was a season 2 of that coming. I really do need to finish reading that series! (I keep saying that lol)
I get it! I have given up having any sort of TBR right now and am just going wherever my mood takes me. I am looking forward to Vespertine so much, whenever my copy shows up in the mail hopefully I’ll be in the mood to jump right in. 😉
That’s what I love about fall-early winter weather: I can wear cute scarves and hats and boots and drink hot stuff. Not excited about the cold.
Yes, exactly!!
oh, i also got the owlcrate edition of OUABH! it’s so gorgeous💜
It really is! Happy reading, Kaya!
I share your enthusiasm of receiving a book from an author or series you loved the first part of. I had just discovered Joe Abercrombie, and am looking forward to reading the second book in his series. Enjoy yours!
Thanks! I’ve only read one Abercrombie but really enjoyed that one. 🙂
That’s a beautiful copy of OUABH! I’ve heard lots of good things about the book and I’m looking forward to reading that and Jade, Fire, Gold as well! Longshadow sounds like a great read. I don’t have a lot of regency fantasies on my list so I think I might have to check that out. I hope you have a good week ahead!
It’s really pretty 😍
Regency fantasy books are my jam. There are so many good ones out there. 🙂
Thanks, Dini! Hope you’re having a good week. ❤
I just started The Quicksilver Court myself and it looks very promising so… happy reading! 🙂
Oooh. Exciting! Hope you have enjoyed it. 🙂
I have a copy of the Gerber book and Quicksilver Court that I’m really looking forward to.
Happy house organising.
Lynn 😀
I’m so excited about The Quicksilver Court! I hope my mood for reading it comes soon lol. Enjoy!
