This Week in Reading: FREEDOM!!!!

Hey all, hope your weekends were grand. Mine was pretty good. Celebrated my anniversary, went shopping, enjoyed the Spring weather, tried to be pretty chill, and FINISHED READING THE TWO BOOKS I’VE BEEN READING FOREVER, WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

You don’t know how excited I am that I got through these books, finally. *crying* Does this mean my slump is over finally? I don’t know but I sure hope so because my TBR pile is growing quite large again. I need to start getting through some of these. *glances at TBR cart which is currently overflowing onto the end table*

For physical books this week I’ll be starting A Conjuring of Assassins by Cate Glass. This is the second book in her Chimera series and I’m quite looking forward to it as I had a lot of fun with the first book. Cate Glass is a pen name for Carol Berg and I’m a fan of her work and she loves to put her characters through the ringer–I like to be along for the ride. 🙂

In ebook format I’ll be reading A Wizard’s Guide to Defensive Baking by T. Kingfisher. This will be my second Kingfisher book and I’m hoping I love it. If the humor comes through in this one then I think I’ll be good with it.

In audio I started listening to The Odyssey translated by Emily Wilson. Bonus–this is read by Claire Danes who has been one of my favorites since the 90’s. I’ve had this one in my queue for a while, picked it up when some of the other r/fantasy mods were talking about how they loved this translation. I guess I’m just on a reading newer translations of really old classics kick right now–first Beowulf and now this!

Those are my plans for this week! I’m working on finishing off my March TBR pile and then next month I have some review books to get to. What are you reading this week? Leave a note in the comments, I’d love to chat!

Yay for the finished books!! 🎉 This week I should try to finish my March TBR before starting my Spring one but I think I would go all bad girl here and go with Cemetery Boys as soon as I can!

Congrats on finishing your books. How cool that The Odyssey is read by Claire Danes! I’ve always loved her. “My So-Called Life” was one of my favorite shows as a teen. Have a great week and happy reading! 😀

Happy anniversary! 🍾🎊I’m excited for you reading The Odyssey, it’s a fab tale 😃

I’m reading a book called We Men of Ash and Shadow by HL Tinsley at the mo. It’s a sort of gaslamp grimdark story about an assassin who kills evil criminals. A fantasy Dexter if you will haha. I’m not enjoying it unfortunately. Good premise, good setting but I just don’t like the writing, which is kind of important in a book lol.

      Thanks!
I’m about an hour or so into the audio book and it’s still the introduction. Emily Wilson was very thorough exploring this ancient epic haha.

Gaslamp grimdark sounds kind cool, sorry you’re not enjoying it though. I wish the writing worked better for you! Hope you have a fantastic week!

Sounds like a relief to have those two books finished😁 I’m trying to finish at least two more March books then I’m diving into April because my April review pile is sort of out of control🙄

It’s a HUGE relief haha. So glad.
Oh, I wish you luck with that. I have probably four review books for April myself which is more than I’d like but here we are LOL. Have a great week, Tammy!

I have completely abandoned all pretense of following my TBR, though there’s about half of it left for women’s history month, and have decided to just spend the next two weeks reading Shadowhunters, and it’s wonderful so far.

Happy late anniversary!! But if by “enjoying the spring weather” you mean the almost constant rain and snow… I mean, I guess, if you’re into that 😉

    • waytoofantasy says:

Thank you! LOL – well we’ve been pretty lucky where I’m at and had about 4 or 5 nice days in a row. Of course today was a rainy mess but that just means April has arrived a bit early I think. 😉

Yay for finishing books! I finished one I’d been reading for ages last night and now I’m stuck on what to read next, so ups and downs.
