Now, we do have a little bit of time left in 2019 but, as much as I would LOVE to get to some of these before the year is out, I doubt I will have time with the way things are going. Even if I take the next two weeks off work and do nothing but read, I’m never going to finish up all the books I wanted to this year. Womp womp. But, the good news is that books don’t expire and I can read them just as well next year.
As you’ve probably seen me mention around here a time or two, I’m going to be doing something a little different with my 2020 reading – focusing on books I already own and pulling mostly from those for my more immediate ‘TBR’ piles. That being said, I do have 2019 releases that have been waiting in the wings and I’d like to make them somewhat of a priority. As always, we’ll see how things go. 🙂
OwlCrate Books
Shamefully, I haven’t had a chance to read ANY of my OwlCrate books yet, but these two look the most promising out of the bunch and I’m excited to dive into them first.
- Winterwood by Shea Ernshaw
- Crier’s War by Nina Varela
Other New in 2019 Books
These are two that were recommended to me by friends and I’m super excited to get to them. I had hoped to get to them this month but no time so they’re going into the 2020 pile!
- The Fever King by Victoria Lee
- The Imaginary Corpse by Tyler Hayes
2019 Sequels I Missed
I’m really looking forward to continuing all of these series. I read a good amount of sequels this year, but couldn’t get to them all in a timely fashion. So, next year it is!
- Aurora Blazing by Jessie Mihalik
- The Rise of the Magicks by Nora Roberts
- Dragon Unleashed by Grace Draven
So, there you have it. I’ll have a lot more books in my TBR other than just these for 2020, but this is a good start. Any thoughts on these? What are some books that you wanted to get to but just couldn’t squeeze in? Leave a note in the comments, I’d love to chat!
The fever king is so good! I also hope to read winterwood soon!

I’ve heard great things about The Fever King and I can’t wait to get to it, I’m excited for both of these. 🙂
Ooh I love your idea to focus on your bookshelf and read mainly from there and your TBR. It’s hard to keep up with those areas when you’re mainly reading new releases. I might try that idea too 😀 Great post! Jen
Thanks! My tbr has gotten so out of control, I needed a plan to work on it before it stresses me out too much lol.
The Imaginary Corpse intrigues me…
Me too! Looking forward to it a lot. 🙂
Great plan! I would love to read more of my own books next year too. Aurora Blazing was lots of fun! And I don’t think Dragon Unleashed comes out till next year, so there’s one you can cross off this list😁
Oh I didn’t realize that it got pushed back, I was still going by the original release date LOL. Thank goodness I’m not the only one behind on things. 😉
I picked up a mass-market paperback copy of The Rise of the Magicks not too long ago. Hoping it’ll be a winter read.
I hope you enjoy it!
I can’t wait for Winterwood!!! I plan to read it as soon as I have it in my hands, I feel that I’ll love it 😍❤️
It does look really good! I hope you do love it. 🙂
The Fever King sounds so interesting. I wanna read it too! They all look good, tho! I hope you love all of them! 😄
Thanks! I’ve heard great things about The Fever King from friends, so I’m especially excited to get to that one myself. 🙂
One of my goals is to read more of my own books as well! Can’t wait to have more read books than to-read books.
That’s awesome! I think I still have more read than unread, only because I have so many books, but my TBR is still quite intimidating. At this point it will literally take years for me to get through them all lol. 🙂
Crier’s War and The Fever King are two I’d really like to check out, too! I think Dragon Unleashed has been pushed back to 2020, so I don’t think it’s out until next summer now anyway. 🙂
Yeah, I just saw that about Dragon Unleashed, phew! One I don’t have to worry about for a while ahahaha. 😀
Ugh, I need to go back and make a similar list – but I think I will feel overwhelmed if I do. Perhaps I’ll try a mini list as a started and see how I get on.
Lynn 😀
Last year I only put 5 books on my list. I think I got to two or three of them? LOL I really need to stop looking at new shiny books so much whoops. I totally get feeling overwhelmed though, I often am when I think about all the books I need to get through.
Crier’s War is on my list, and I’d love to read Polaris Rising – yet another kindle deal I bought and haven’t read yet….
I had no idea about Crier’s War until I got it in my box and even then wasn’t super interested until I read some reviews, it sounds like something I’d love. Hope we get to all of these eventually lol.
Really want to check out winterwood too!
It looks so good!
