The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated Reviewer. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.
Random News And Goings-On
We had our HVAC install! Everything went pretty smoothly on Monday, although I did have to get up super early and pack up my cats at 630am to take them over my parent’s house for the day. My cats rarely leave my house so they were not happy and pretty terrified. The worst part of the day was trying to get them packed up and brought home. Jack got all hyper because my father was trying to play fight with him which turned into real fighting and he attacked me and I wound up getting scratched all over my leg and hand. Then we could NOT get Loki from under my mom’s bed and had to leave and come back for him. When we came back we couldn’t find him and it turns out he had crawled up INTO THE BOX SPRING. Who does that??? Anyway, it was probably 8:30 by the time we got everyone home and released back into the house. A very long day.
Then, the next day, we we wound up having some other house issues. Our bathroom lights have been flickering on and off for a week or two and they suddenly got worse. So we had to call out an electrician to make sure everything was okay. Turns out it was just the switch going bad. He also fixed our ceiling fan in the dining room so that’s nice. But the stress of worrying if there was a wiring issue and my house would burn down (I have so many books, this place would go in a flash) was enough to distract me from reading for the better part of the week. SIGH.
That’s all sorted out now and the one major thing we have coming up later this month is a duct cleaning. We bought some fancy large cages to keep the cats in and out of the way because hauling them over my parents’ again is not really an option. We also have some other small home projects we’re working on, but that feels like a perpetual thing as a home owner, LOL.
One awesome thing that happened this week is I had my follow up doctor’s appointment for my blood pressure (right now I have to go about every three months). Both the medical tech and the doctor were impressed with my weight loss! They officially weighed me in at 264 (even though I think I’m 265) so that’s a loss of 22lbs since my last check up! The doctor asked me what I’ve been doing to lose the weight and I was like ‘Um…what you told me to do?’ because really that’s about it. Watching my carbs, watching my calories, keeping my portions in check for the most part and not going crazy every day at every meal. I’m really hoping I can lose another 20-30lbs by the end of the year.
So, that’s been my week. Filled with chaos. I had hoped to get a lot of reading/blogging in at work since my boss was on vacation but I’ve just been too stressed. I still have the rest of this weekend though, so we’ll see what happens!
New Book Arrivals at Way Too Fantasy
Audiobooks
Only one this week – my pre-order of Dark Age by Pierce Brown has come in! I’m so excited for this one because I love everything Red Rising and the first book in the new trilogy, well, I just love how it’s dealing with the ‘what happens now that we’ve overthrown the previous government’ question that most of these types of series never get into. It’s MESSY. and I love it. Anywho, this is a very long book, clocking in at over 33 hours! Given that I’ve just had two very long audios in a row (Last Bastion by Aaron and Bach, and The Priory of the Orange Tree by Shannon) I think I’m going to take a bit of a break before diving into this one. Hopefully in September I’ll feel like listening to a long book again.
Ebooks
Well, I picked up several ebooks this past week, mainly because of sales, and also two pre-orders came in.
- Lace and Lies by Nancy Warren. This is the next in her Vampire Knitting Club series of cozy mysteries. I love these books. I read this one soon as it came out on Tuesday. 🙂
- Soul Bound by A.J. Flowers. I came across this somewhere and thought it looked like my type of book and either it’s going to be great or I’m going to hate it so we’ll see.
- Spellbound by Allie Therin is another one I had on pre-order. I think I came across this one on netgalley and it just looked interesting so I pre-ordered it? Can’t remember.
- Temper by Nicky Drayden was on sale and I’ve been wanting to read her work, so seemed like a good opportunity to jump on.
Posts to Check Out from the Book Blogging Community
Here are some of my favorite posts from the last week of blog hopping. There were so many great posts this past week, ya’ll are really impressive!

Tammy @ Books, Bones, & Buffy recaps her time at SDCC, shows off her amazing book haul, and has a giveaway!
Evelina @ Avalinah’s Books is talking about The Greatest Book Blogging Myths she’s encountered. Great and informative post!

Kal @ Reader Voracious is adding to my TBR pile again by talking about anticipated reads for August.
Evelyn @ Evelyn Reads is talking about series that she probably won’t continue. Fantastic post! I find it so hard to say I’m actually giving up on a series or book and prefer to keep it in my ‘tbr at some point in the far distant future’ like some kind of book hoarder that can’t let go. I’m a bit in awe of folks who can say they’re done with something!
Paul @ Paul’s Picks is talking about 10 awesome things he’s learned being a book blogger. I love posts like these! Also, Paul is pretty awesome so if you’re not following him you should definitely check out his blog.
Well, that’s all my news for now. Hope you all have a fantastic week!
Oh those poor cats! Congrats on getting your HVAC replaced, hopefully the cats can get back to normal😁 And thanks for the shout out!
Thanks! That cats are totally fine now that they’re home, the little stinkers. 🙂
You’re welcome!
Congrats on getting your HVAC replaced!! I can’t wait to see your thoughts on Dark Age😄
Thank you! I’m very much looking forward to Dark Age although it will probably be about a month or so til I can get to it.
Thank you for the shout out lovely.
Houses – money pits. There is always something isn’t there – still at least you’re working on projects which is good.
Well done with your continued weight loss – you’re definitely doing something right and it must be very encouraging seeing the weight come off.
Lynn 😀
You’re welcome!
Yes, I was just talking to my coworkers the other day about how houses are money pits. I feel like I’ve been sold a bill of goods and what’s worse is that I bought mine *right* before (literally a couple of months) before the housing market crashed in the US several years ago. So it’s not even worth what we paid for it, even 12 years later. You’re supposed to buy a house because it will be worth something for you in the future. Welp. LIFE! 😀
Thanks, I’m very excited about the weight loss. At least that’s something well within my control. 🙂
Well, the thing is with buying a house is, yes you have more responsibility and it’s definitely a black hole in terms of time and money but eventually you will own it. It will be all yours. If you rent. And a lot of people do and I do t blame them, you’re not responsible for repairs but years down the line you won’t own the property and if you have made any improvements they won’t benefit you . It’s swings and roundabouts really isn’t it but you sound like you’re enjoying the projects you’re undertaking.
Yeah, there are pros and cons to both. My husband and I have discussed moving one day but we’ll have to wait til we have enough of our mortgage paid off so that we can at least not owe anything on this loan if and when we move. For now we’re enjoying our house and projects, we’re hoping the neighborhood takes an upswing as well at some point. 🙂
Congrats on your weight loss! I’m currently watching my carb intake as well but I don’t always have the willpower, so your achievements are really incredible! I’m going to pick up Dark Age as well, and I’m a little intimidated because yeah it’s a huge ass book, lol! I figured audio would be the way to go too, but wow, it’s 33 hrs?! Daaaamn, that’s even longer than I thought 😀
Thanks! I haven’t cut out all carbs, I certainly cheat sometimes, but then I have to be good pretty much every other day that week lol. I think seeing progress has really helped with the willpower. 🙂
Yeah, Dark Age is HUGE. Definitely not getting to it til September lol.
Oo I’m excited that you are picking up Temper. I have yet to read it but I loved Prey of Gods, her previous book. I look forward to your opinion on it 🙂
It may be a while til I get to it but looking forward to it!
Thank you so much for the shout out!!!! Much appreciated.
You’re welcome!
Great wrap up! Really liked Evelyn, Paul and Evelina’s posts 🙂 Thank you so much for sharing my post as well ❤
You’re welcome! 🙂
