Monthly Wrap Up: February 2019

Another month of 2019 down, where is this year going so quickly? Well, as most of you know I’ve spent the entire month playing catch up still. I had some crazy stuff going on at the start of the month that made things difficult but I feel like, here at the end, I’m finally starting to make some progress. I still have things to do but at least I’ve been able to get a few things done. 🙂

I managed to finish 15 books in February–1 Thriller, 1 Mystery, 2 Romances, 2 Science Fiction, and 9 Fantasy novels. Not a bad month at all, especially for such a short one.

Favorite Reads of the Month:

  • The Cruel Prince and The Wicked King by Holly Black. Aaaaaah. Ok, so everyone was right and I don’t know why I waited so long to read The Cruel Prince. These books are so addictive!
  • Masks and Shadows by Stephanie Burgis. I picked this one up because it was on sale and read it nearly right away as a mood read. What a surprise! I was expecting a light and fun book and while this does have light and fun moments there’s also murder and all kinds of crazy plotting for power going on. I really loved this book.

February’s Book Reviews:

I managed to get out 10 book reviews in February. Not bad! I still have quite a few in my drafts folder but I’m finally starting to make some progress on catching up again. Here are all of February’s reviews in case you missed them.

Other Posts:

Like last month, I didn’t really have a ton of topical posts other than my Friday Favorite Five posts.  I did start joining in a new meme, Shabby Sunday by created by Mischenko at ReadRantRock&Roll, which has been quite fun to show off some of my vintage books.

Plans for March:

So, one of my big goals for February was to catch up on ARC’s and review copies. I did manage to get a couple more checked off of my list so that’s progress, but not as much as I’d hoped. Still, I’m not actually that far behind! Right now I only have 3 outstanding indie review requests to read and review, 1 netgalley request due in a couple of weeks and 1 due in April, and then several unsolicited books I’d been sent for review which I’ll try to squeeze in when I can. I’ve still been resisting requesting stuff on netgalley so that I can catch up (even though it’s really hard sometimes lol). Catching up will continue to be a priority!

I keep saying I want to do more discussion posts but I’ve been so busy dealing with all kinds of crazy stuff that I haven’t had time to think of topics or things I’d like to talk about. So…going to make that one of my goals for March: topics for discussion posts!

Going to keep goals light this month because I have a lot going on. Late March/early April is the change over period for the r/fantasy Bingo challenge that I run so that will be time consuming. I also have a few events I’m attending and my husband and I will be celebrating our 4th wedding anniversary near the end of the month as well. 🙂

Hope you all have a great March! What are your plans for next month? Leave me a note in the comments, I’d love to hear from you!

I’m so glad you liked Sea of Rust! I have a review for The Gilded Wolves coming up soon (maybe today? I don’t remember) that has a similar rating. Going to check yours out

As always, I’m jealous of the amount of books you read each month. Congrats on starting to catch up! I have a gazillion books to read in March and I know I won’t get to all of them, but I can dream, right? 😉

Hah, I feel like I didn’t even read that much! It’s weird because I know I do read a lot more books then most people but it still felt like I didn’t get to many books lol!
I’m still kinda behind on new releases too but could maybe catch up if I quit my job–that may he going a bit far though. 😉

I’m foreseeing myself ping-ponging between heavy ARC months and heavy backlist months for the foreseeable future lol. This cursed short month means I haven’t gotten through all the ARCs I wanted to before the end of Feb, so March is going to be an interesting balancing act between the reading challenge I’m doing and the last few ARCs i need to read before April!

I always think it’s a good idea to not be too ambitious with goals – I usually just set myself up for a fall by thinking of lots of good ideas.
I hope you have a lovely wedding anniversary.
    Lynn 😀
