So, a couple of weeks ago one of my oldest friends (who now runs a comic book shop in PA) called me and said they’d gotten a huge collection of fantasy novels in (20 boxes) and would I like to come up and go through them before he did anything with them. Of course I was like ‘hells yeah’. Honestly didn’t think I would find much but boy I wrong. Boxes and boxes of fantasy hardcovers, most first edition first printings, all in great condition. I took three boxes home with me that day. And then I went back up two days later and brought back 3 more boxes of books for me and a couple of friends. And I got all of these for basically 50 cents each because my friend is awesome and he had paid next to nothing for these himself.
There are a few of these that I may not be keeping but I haven’t decided yet. Suffice to say the majority of these will end up in my personal library. There are also several of these that I already have in paperback, but I couldn’t resist the urge to pick up these magnificent hardcovers when given the opportunity. Aside from novels there are a bunch of other interesting things including a few graphic novels and artbooks!

Final Total Haul
So yeah, this is a lot of books. I’m still trying to decide on a few to keep (for example I’m torn about the Hobb because on the one hand hnnnnnnng, but on the other hand I already have them all in paperback and they fit so well on my shelf and this isn’t a total complete set, but then again, hnnnnnnnnnnnng) but the ones I am keeping have been cataloged already and taken upstairs. I have to rearrange my entire library to fit these in so I’m probably going to wait until after Christmas because I think my husband has gotten me a bunch of books as a gift and I don’t want to have to do that twice in such a short period (it’s a lot of work).
Also, I should have another book haul post coming up soon-ish. I’ve gotten a bunch new ebooks, audiobooks, and a several review copies that I want to share as well. But that’s for another post. 😉
Way Too Fantasy 
Whoa!! So much book goodness! I would have a hard time saying no to 50 cent books too😁
Yeah, I mean at first he was like 3 bucks a book and I was like ‘OK!’ and then he was like ‘you can have all these boxes for $40 and I was like ‘OK!’ and then when I went back the second day he was like ‘take what you want for free cuz I already made back my money’ and I was like ‘OK!’ so it worked out to be about 50 cents per book in the end….. If I didn’t have limited space at the moment, I probably would have taken even more. O.o
*dies of jealousy* So many gorgeous books that are on my list. I recognize 80% of them, at least, have read about six of the Robert Jordan’s, and you definitely have good taste when it comes to fantasy. All of them in gorgeous hardbacks too! What luck! (I’m shocked there’s not a single Anne McCaffrey or Mercedes Lackey with that kind of list! Those two were *prolific* fantasy/scifi writers!) Great collection!
I don’t think there was any McCaffrey or I would have taken them being is such excellent condition. There were a couple of Lackey books but my friend kept those for himself because he’s a fan. 🙂 (I also already have a HUGE amount of both of their books in my collection, but would have been nice to get good copies!) I was really shocked myself to find myself coming across all of these!
Ah well, you still wound up with several really nice ones! A couple of those are ones that I’ve been hunting for ages, too. Like those Janny Wurts that are hard to find, and Kate Elliot. Would that I could borrow those. *stares at them wistfully* But being a bookworm, I know better than to ask, lol. How many Mercedes Lackey have you read, and do you have a favorite? I think mine so far is probably the Obisidian Series, though all her books re wonderful.
I haven’t read any of her Valdemar book, but I HAVE a ton of them, same friend gave me his collection a while back when he was downsizing. I have read a few of her fairytale retellings and elemental master and five hundred kingdoms stuff. So I think maybe I’ve only read like 10 of her books? I really loved The Fire Rose and The Black Swan.
Not sure if I am keeping the Kate Elliotts or not because I also have them all in paperback as a complete series and although I am a big fan of Kate’s one of my friends is a even bigger fan and so I may be sending these on to her.
I was really excited to find the Janny Wurts books! I’ve only read one book by her (her debut) but she is SUCH a lovely person. She contributes prizes to my book bingo that I run over on r/fantasy every year. 🙂

Yeah, I was (and still am) pretty shocked. I thought they would all be paperbacks or a lot of titles I wasn’t interested in. He had so many more books and a ton of artbooks, I restrained myself really. (that is me restrained, lol)

Oh my bloody effing god. Crikey. Now that right there is a book haul. Of course you’re going to have to sell your house now and buy a castle to keep them all in – but it’s a small issue really.

The funny thing is, my husband, who is always saying ‘don’t you have enough books?’, saw how excited I was going through boxes with my friend and told me to take whatever I wanted, so I kind of did. I have plans to get some new book cases for the basement after Christmas, so there will be a lot of rearranging of books. No need to sell my house yet, I’m good at finding space for books. 😀

Dunno how to advise you on the Hobb books. I would say keep them but you already have them in paperback. Kinda hard to get rid of those nice hardbacks.
Right? That’s why I’m torn. I think I’ll end up keeping them for now.

I’ve read Stardust, but never the graphic novel version so I was excited to find this! Really loved The Graveyard Book too which I listened to in audio, so happy to find a hardback for so cheap in such great condition! 🙂
