The Sunday Post #14

thesundaypost

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated Reviewer. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

Random News And Goings-On

Well, I think I may be coming out of my reading slump a bit, although my mood has still been up and down. I wound up coming home early from work on Monday, apparently I was just emanating ‘I don’t feel well’ vibes to the point my coworker suggested I go home for the day. Then on Wednesday I took a sick day and tried to relax at home which kind of sort of maybe helped just a bit. Still have the rest of this Fall to power through, I’ll get through it!

Let’s see, what else has happened this week? Well, I finally took my car in for regular maintenance and also had them check it out because of the weird noise it’s been making and as I suspected it’s the front passenger side shock. There are a few other things too, so I’m going to get that work done next week because I just want to get this stuff over and done with at this point. I’m tired off all these things coming up every other week though.  My cat is acting weird, meowing and restless even after eating–I think he’s too young for hyperthyroidism and I don’t notice any other signs so I don’t know if he’s just bored or what. But I can’t really afford to take him in to the vets right now because I need to shell out $1500 to get my car fixed. Also my husband has to call the shop for his car again on Monday because it’s still being noisy and I woke up this morning and our TV appears to be broken so…..yeah. Many first world problems but they continue to pile on at once and I’m just kind of done. I may have sell a kidney or something to pay for things if this continues. (Not my books though–never the books.)

Saturday was pretty fun. We took an unexpected trip up to Frederick, MD (about an hour away) and stopped in at the Tea Emporium where I stocked up on some things. We then had a delicious lunch and later went over some friends to play board games until way too late into the night (or very early morning depending on how you look at it). Today will be a day of cleaning the house (or, I don’t know, maybe I’ll just save myself the trouble and burn this place to the ground) and maybe reading some more if I get done all my cleaning early. I may also audiobook while finally going through and reorganizing / paring down my craft supplies, if I’m feeling especially froggy. 🙂

The good news:  My boss is going to Spain and will be out of the office for the next two weeks! I’m very excited and looking forward to maybe being able to sneak in some reading / blogging time at work during down time. Maybe I’ll actually catch up! One can dream.

New Book Arrivals at Way Too Fantasy

Physical Books

Two new arrivals! Grave Importance by Vivian Shaw–this was one of my most anticipated releases this fall and apparently it was so anticipated that I told my reading schedule to take a hike and read this over the weekend, whoops. 😀 The second book is Serpent & Dove by Shelby Mahurin. I’ve seen some good reviews of this one and it liked like my type of book so I thought I’d pick up a copy and add to my massive TBR pile of massiveness. 🙂

Audiobooks

Three new audiobooks!

  • I picked up a copy of City of Lies by Sam Hawke in audio because I’m doing really well with my audiobooks lately and I think this will help me get through more of my Fall TBR list. Since I had picked up the ebook when it was on sale for a couple of dollars, the audiobook was super cheap and I didn’t even have to use a credit on it. Score!
  • Next up, a preorder, Wayward Son by Rainbow Rowell. I may have also squeezed this one in already this week as well because I really wanted to read it lol.
  • Lastly, I picked up The Infinite Noise by Lauren Shippen because a friend said it’s amazing and I trust her recommendations and she’s basically my book pimp at this point (you know who you are lol).

Posts to Check Out from the Book Blogging Community

I mostly managed to keep up on blog hopping this week, kinda sort of after catching up to a huge backlog. But at least I feel like I’m finally getting back to normal with checking in on other folk’s posts. Yay. There were a TON of great posts I came across, so here’s a sampling, hope you check them out.

The Fantasy Inn has episode two of their podcast up. They’re chatting about genre snobbery. If you haven’t subscribed to their podcast yet, you should check it out. Fun stuff.

Xandra @ Starry Sky Books is celebrating their one year blogging anniversary and chatting about some of the things they’ve achieved and their experience so far.

Kelly @ Another Book in the Wall has a fantastic post about removing stickers from books. Very good information here.

The Orangutan Librarian has another great discussion post, In Defence of Girly Girl Genres, and it’s just perfection. Brings up a lot of points about why so much media ‘for girls’ is always looked down on. Love it.

Kal @ Reader Voracious has a list of 12 releases coming up in OctoberKatie @ Melting Pages also has a great list of October releases. Get ready to add to your TBR pile!

Lynn @ Lynn’s Book Blog has a lovely post about vintage sci-fi with some ‘if you like this, try this’ recommendations. I really love this post! Also, I need to read Leigh Brackett. 🙂

That’s the news for this week, see you next time! (Hopefully. As long as I don’t have to start selling my body parts off, I’ll be here. :D)

I just got a surprise copy of The Infinite Noise in the mail and now I’m excited to read it! I’m jealous that your boss will be out for 2 weeks! I can’t stand having my boss in the office, so I get it. Good luck😁

Leave a comment, I'd love to chat!
