Sunday Post #8

thesundaypost

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated Reviewer. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

Random News And Goings-On

Well, I got some sage but haven’t burned it yet and as a consequence, the curse continues! (I really need to get off my butt and burn that sage…). Mid-week when I woke up I noticed my cat, Loki, was limping around, his right front arm/paw seemed to be bothering him. So I had to take him to the vets, be late to work, etc. I wound up having to leave him there because he’s a hellspawn demon child and had to be sedated in order to be examined. Smh. The good news is, $900 and one rabies shot later, the vet found nothing significant wrong so she diagnosed him with a sprain and sent him home with anti-imflammatory and pain meds. He seems to be doing much better and is barely limping now.

Saturday was a fun day. Went up to NJ for a horror convention. It’s not normally my type of thing but my friend had invited me a while ago as part of a group with other friends who I hadn’t seen in years (I have known them all since college but they have known each other longer). Anywho, they had a group photo op with James Hong and that’s pretty much why we all went up there. They actually had a lot of celebrities there. I saw Ric Flair! I heard him Woo at someone! I bought more merch than I thought I would, but most of it was gifts for other people. The only downside (aside from nearly sweating to death while waiting in line) was that I fell and hurt my knee. I was walking through a hallway and this girl stuck her foot out behind her not realizing people were walking behind her at the exact moment my foot was there and I went down like a 260lb sack of potatoes. Luckily, my actual knee seems to be okay, just bruised up all around it and sore, but no swelling, I can bend it fine and put weight on it and everything. Dodged a bullet there! Phew.

So, my life continues to be full of adventure lately. This coming week is going to be tough and stressful because of a work situation and some work we’re having done in the house on Thursday that we have to prep for so I don’t know how much I’ll be able to read, but I’m still going to try my best.

New Book Arrivals at Way Too Fantasy

Physical Books

Two new books in the physical TBR pile this week. My pre-order of The Downstairs Girl by Stacey Lee came in. Not a speculative fiction book, but I really enjoyed her debut–Under a Painted Sky–so I really wanted to read another book by her. She writes fantastic historical YA fiction. The Lady Rogue by Jenn Bennett is book mail surprise! Thanks so much to the folks at Simon Pulse for sending it my way, much appreciated. It looks like my type of book and I’m adding it to my TBR for next month. 🙂

Ebooks

Picked up a few new ebooks this week, mostly in the spec-fic/romance crossover genres. Burn For Me by Ilona Andrews. I love Ilona Andrews and Keikii over at Keikii Eats Books has talked me into checking out this series. Next up are Radio Silence and Signal Boost by Alyssa Cole. This is another author I absolutely love. I think I’ve loved everything I’ve read by her so far, whether it’s modern day or historical, so I’m very much looking forward to this series as well. I also picked up the new Tessa Dare historical romance, The Wallflower Wager, and have since read it because I can’t resist new Tessa Dare. 🙂

Posts to Check Out from the Book Blogging Community

Another terrible week for blog hopping, but I got it mostly together at the end of the week. I really need to get better at making this a daily routine again.

Para @ To Other Worlds has a review of the new Becky Chambers, To Be Taught, If Fortunate. I’m so excited for this book and reading this review is making me even more excited!

Hannah @ I Have Thoughts on Books has a great post recommending books told in second person singular narration. I love niche recommendations!

The folks from The Fantasy Inn have a great interview with author Craig DiLouie.

Kal over @ Reader Voracious has a great and informative post, first of a series, about making the move from paid WordPress to self-hosted. I’ll admit this is something I’ve thought about myself, so I’m going to be paying close attention to this series. Thanks, Kal! 🙂

Xandra @ Starry Sky Books has a post with some advice for book bloggers — 4 Things About Blogging That Seem Scary, But Really Aren’t That Bad. Love me some posts about blogging. 🙂

May @ Forever and Everly is talking about her rating system and how she goes about rating books. I always think it’s interesting to see how others rate books because it’s kind of a personal thing.

Tammy @ Books, Bones & Buffy is doing a giveaway where you can win one of the books she reviewed last month! Don’t miss out on this one.

That’s all the news for now! Sorry this post is a bit later than normal, hopefully things will get back to normal by September. 😀

Thanks! I’m hoping it does, I have a lot going on this week and I can’t afford to be down for the count right now. 🙂
Hopefully I’ll have time to sneak that one in soon, really looking forward to it.

I’m so excited to read The Downstairs Girl! I was lucky enough to win it through a giveaway, and though I’m not usually the biggest fan of historical fiction, I feel like I’m going to really enjoy that one. And aah thank you so much for sharing and linking to my post!! ❤

Oh, that’s awesome that you won a copy! I really enjoyed her first book, so I think I’ll like this one too. She’s really all about the characters. I hope you enjoy it! And you’re welcome!

You really do need to burn that sage! Poor Loki (and hellspawn demon child is the best nickname/descriptor ever) I’m glad he is okay but that sucks the vet bill was so much 😦 I just spent almost $200 just to get my dog updated on her shots :/ And I am glad you knee isn’t too serious, but no fun! Go burn that sage!

I really do! Maybe tonight, gotta get on it.
He is doing much better. He’s a really good cat but he is very nervous and also hates all other cats so sometimes he can be difficult in situations lol. Vets are so expensive! She wants to see him back in a couple weeks for a follow up but if he’s fine then I’m skipping it cuz I’m about out of funds!
Thanks. I’m actually pretty lucky, it could have been so much worse. ❤

Yeah, luckily this week has been much better, so far no disasters *crosses fingers*. Going to sage my house this weekend. They make special smudging sticks so burning shouldn’t be to hazardous. 🙂

Thanks, I’ve been thinking about it. Mainly because I want to go ad free or looking for other themes in the future. I may just upgrade wordpress for a bit and then decide to switch later too….will definitely keep you in mind if I decide to do it. 🙂
