This Week in Reading: Progress Despite Everything

Despite being behind in nearly everything else and having another rather crazy week, I did manage to get a lot of reading in. I managed to finish up five books – 4 SFF novels and a romance. Only two of those were on my 20 Books of Summer list, but I am still making progress there, so I’ll take it! At a little over halfway through the month (well, we have til Sept 3rd) I feel like I’m going to be a few books shy of completing my list (between 4-6 books) but we’ll see. There’s still some month left and if I can get through these ARCs then I’m clear to read off of my TBR for the end of the month.

First up is TheΒ Harp of Kings by Juliet Marillier. I know, this isn’t one of my 20 Books of Summer but it’s an ARC and I need to read it before it comes out. Also, I really want to read it because I love Marillier and have been looking forward to this one ever since it was announced. πŸ˜€ I just started this one and I’m only a little ways into it (literally a few pages), but I’m loving it so far, it’s great to be reading another Marillier.

If I finish up Harp of Kings I’ll be starting The Girl with No Face by M.H. Boroson. This IS one of my 20 Books of Summer and also another ARC that I need to get to reading. Also another book I’ve been looking forward to for what feels like forever! Long awaited sequel, I really couldn’t be more excited (I don’t know why it’s taken me a while to pick it up from when I got it, to be honest–so many books, so little time, I suppose.)

In audio, I’ll be listening to Sunshine by Robin McKinley since my hold came in from the library late last week. This is a reread and it’s been a very long time since I’ve read it, but I remember loving it and cherishing it as one of my favorites. Rereading this one for r/fantasy bingo (we’re allowed one reread) in which I’m doing an all-vampire themed card. I’ll be using this for my retelling square.

If I manage to finish Sunshine I’ll be starting Crown of Feathers by Nicki Pau Preto. Very happy to finally be diving into this one. I’ve heard good things from a lot of you about this book and I think I’m going to enjoy this read quite a bit. This is also on my 20 Books of Summer list.

So, those are my plans. I’m crossing my fingers that I can somehow pull off all my reading commitments but it’s going to be a close one because this week is also going to be crazy. I’m going to be the only one in sales/customer service all week, by my lonesome, which means I will have a lot less audiobooking time. I also have a bunch of stuff to do after work most of the week to prep for a house project on Thursday. At least Friday night through Sunday should be pretty free for me! We’ll see how much reading I can get done in those two and a half days. πŸ˜€Β What are you reading this week? Leave me a note in the comments, I’d love to chat!

Excellent books coming up it seems! I’m behind too. Sometimes I think I wouldn’t know what to do if I wasn’t behind. You’re not alone! Take care and have a wonderful week. πŸ‘πŸ˜

Okay yes I think I would love that. Have you ever read Susan Carroll’s Dark Queen Saga? It’s about three sisters who are kinda witches and each one follows one of the three sisters. They’re basically historical speculative fiction romance and I love those books. One of them is about the youngest sister and a witch hunter. The sound of this book put me in mind of that. Anyway, I’m on board lol.

I have not, but it is certainly on the TBR now!

Serpent & Dove is great, and Lou is a fantastic protagonist. Looks like it’s a duology (it certainly set up a sequel) and I am ready for book two now please.

You’ve got some fantastic books on your list here – good luck with getting through them. I’m also hoping to get to Crown of Feathers soon as, like you, I’ve heard really good things about it. Good luck with the reading!

Eeee I’m so excited for The Harp of Kings! I feel like it’s been a while since I last read a Marillier book, even though it’s only been like 2 years lol, so I’m eager to get back to her writing. πŸ˜€ Best of luck with the rest of the challenge! And oh man, I think I had the worst week for romance books this week. I read three and I ended up giving two of them one stars, A rant post is brewing on the horizon…:P

I hope you love it as much as I did, it was a wonderful book.
Thanks! I’m hoping I get in a ton of reading this week, we’ll see hah.
Oh no, that’s not good. I still read a ton of romance but I also am a lot pickier these days. Looking forward to your rant. πŸ˜€
