This Week in Reading: At Least I’m Reading Something

Well, over the last week I didn’t really read any of the books on my list of books that I want to read this month. I’m starting to feel like if I have them on a list it just means I’ll avoid them. Is there some way I can trick my own brain into reading the books on my list? Can I some how reverse-psychology myself? Quick, someone tell me you don’t think I’ll ever finish The Jasmine Throne so that I’ll finish it just to prove you wrong. I mean…at this point I’m willing to try anything lol. Ah well.

Anywho. Over the last week I finished three novels (all romances) and read another webtoon (also a romance). I can’t say enough good things about One Last Stop by Casey McQuiston. The writing style in that one and the tone sometimes reminded me a bit of Addie LaRue? But it also had more humor and slightly less (slightly) existential dread. Loved it.

These are the only two books I’m ‘commiting’ to this week. I feel like this may be a good strategy to getting books read. Just…don’t talk too much about them and maybe I’ll read them?

So, I just started In Deeper Waters by F.T. Lukens and so far so good but I’ll guess we’ll see how it goes. I’m barely into it though so I can’t really form many opinions but I’m interested in seeing where things go, learning more about the characters and the world.

I’m almost finished The Name of All Things by Jenn Lyons. I’d hoped to be done by now but I didn’t start my new dollhouse kit and haven’t had much time to work in listening to audiobooks. Darn my short commute! I will say that I’m absolutely loving it though–it’s much less confusing than book one but still has a really interesting structure and we’re getting some great storytelling and I love the humor. Maybe by the end of the year I’ll be all caught up on this series (what’s out anyway).

Those are my plans but of course they’ll probably go awry because that seems to be the way of things lately! Knowing myself I’ll either abandon my reading list again and binge even more romances or just start rereading favorites or who knows what else lol. (Hmmm, I do have a giant pile of manga to get to in my TBR as well….). Anyway! What are your reading plans this week? Leave a note in the comments, I’d love to chat.

I’m going to keep One Last Stop on my reading list. Glad you enjoyed it. This is the second post today that reminds me: the beauty is that you get to read what you want and when you want. It’s nice to not have deadlines and all that, isn’t it? I get on romance kicks sometimes too, although with two DNF’s in a row, I’m breaking.

Have a good week, Lisa, and happy reading! ❤️

Yeah, I love reading what I want with no pressure, but I somehow always manage to put pressure on myself no matter one lol.

Just trying to be useful here! 😉 But I am curious to know what you would think about In Deeper Waters! It seems interesting and it has a beautiful cover (shallow of me, I know!)

If I was granted one wish by an all-powerful Djinn, I swear it would be for you to be able to not feel guilty about reading the books you want to read 😄
