Time for another round up of books from my TBR to go through! Each week I’ll be going over a selection from my physical unread books and deciding what to keep and what to purge. There will be a third option–undecided–which I might ask for your input on why you think I should keep or purge that title from my list. You can also check out my full TBR pile here.
Darkborn by Alison Sinclair
For the Darkborn, sunlight kills. For the Lightborn, darkness is fatal. Living under a centuries-old curse, the Darkborn and the Lightborn share the city of Minhorne, coexisting in an uneasy equilibrium but never interacting. When Darkborn physician Balthasar Hearne finds a pregnant fugitive on his doorstep just before sunrise, he has no choice but to take her in.
Honestly can’t remember at all picking this one up. Was it at a book festival? Maybe. Either way, it sounds kind of good and it’s book one of a series so I’ll hold on to it for now, maybe I’ll get to it one day. KEEP
The Prince of Frogs by Annaliese Evans
Rosemarie Barrows has successfully defeated an ogre uprising that threatened the lives of humans and supernaturals alike. Now she’s trying to forget her lingering attraction to her handsome Fey advisor, Ambrose Minuit, and settle in to life with her new husband, Gareth, Lord Shenley. Unfortunately, Gareth’s suspicious behavior is driving a wedge between the newlyweds.
This actually looks kind of fun too but it’s book two of a series and I don’t have the first one so I guess it will go into the purge pile. PURGE
Code Name Verity by Elizabeth Wein
Oct. 11th, 1943 – A British spy plane crashes in Nazi-occupied France. Its pilot and passenger are best friends. One of the girls has a chance at survival. The other has lost the game before it’s barely begun.
I’ve heard this one is a tearjerker but I do want to get to it when I’m in the right mood because I’ve loved both other books I’ve read by Wein and this is arguably her most popular novel. KEEP
Newt’s Emerald by Garth Nix
On her eighteenth birthday, Lady Truthful, nicknamed “Newt,” will inherit her family’s treasure: the Newington Emerald. A dazzling heart-shaped gem, the Emerald also bestows its wearer with magical powers.
Honestly the premise of this sounds like it’s right up my alley so I had bought it a while back when it came out, also because I do love Nix. But I haven’t gotten to it for some reason! Too many books. Going to hang on to this one though. KEEP
Deep Secret by Diana Wynne Jones
It’s a Magid’s job to oversee what goes on in the vast Multiverse. Actually, Rupert is really only a junior Magid. But he’s got a king-sized problem. Rupert’s territory includes Earth and the Empire of Korfyros. When his mentor dies Rupert must find a replacement. But there are hundreds of candidates. How is he supposed to choose? And interviewing each one could take forever.
Well this is one of my Diana Wynne Jones’ books so I’m definitely keeping this in my TBR pile. KEEP
That’s all for now! This brings my total count to:
Keep | Purge | Undecided |
373 | 126 | 72 |
Well, mostly keeps this time around but I still have quite a big purge pile so I think I’m still doing pretty good all around. Anything you’d do differently? Leave a note in the comments, I’d love to chat!
Look at that crazy cover for the Dianna Wynne Jones book – you couldn’t purge that. Lynn 😀
Haha, some of her covers are quite…interesting. 😉
I second the decision to purge THE PRINCE OF FROGS! It has a great cover, and it started off so well… and then, it just ended in a tailspin of angst that was just disastrous. I’d really expected better things from it. 😦
Oh well it’s good to have confirmation but I’m sorry it wasn’t a great read!
I have read only Code Name Verity, but that wasn’t for me sadly. I hope you would have more luck with it!!
Thanks, I hope I do too. 🙂
