This Week in Reading: Stuck in a Rut

Uh….well, not much progress at all over the last week. I think my reading is officially STUCK. I finished ONE book and I didn’t even enjoy it. Ugh.

I also got really behind in my blog hopping and blogging in general. I am falling behind on pre-scheduled posts! I went into the weekend with plans to get so much stuff done and while I did get through a few big ticket housework items, I didn’t have time for much else. Also, during the weeknights I was busy doing chores and other responsible stuff like working on the r/fantasy bingo card. I’m really hoping my reading picks up soon because this feels awful.

Somehow I’ve been reading The Unbroken by C. L. Clark for a MONTH now. It’s not that I’m disliking it, I’m enjoying it very much, it’s really just my mood refusing to cooperate. This book is fantastic so don’t let my dismal progress here sway you. I did manage to make some progress and I’m confident that I’ll finish it up this week.

I made a very little progress with The Ruthless Lady’s Guide to Wizardry by C. M. Waggoner and I’m now halfway through. I’m having a tough time because I don’t want to DNF this book but I also think it may not be for me? I don’t know. I guess we’ll see how it goes. I think some others were having similar issues and it picked up for them halfway.

In audio I am making good progress with The Heart of Valor by Tanya Huff. I didn’t get a lot of listening time during the week but thanks to all the housework I did over the weekend I managed to get pretty far with this one. One of my friends calls these books ‘competence porn’ and I’ve never heard a more apt description lol. Somehow they’re very satisfying for that reason.

Well, that’s my plans for this week. I’m really hoping things pick up. What are you reading? Leave a note in the comments, I’d love to chat!

It’s so annoying when you want to read but your mood refuses to cooperate. Totally get what toe saying about liking a book but not being able to get swept up in it for mood reasons too; I feel robbed by my own mind when that happens lol. You’ll come out the other side though, we always do 🙂 I’ve got my fingers crossed for you it’s sooner rather than later 🤞

As for me, I just finished my reread of A Game of Thrones and loved it! Think I read all 850 odd pages in 6 days, which is lightning fast for me. I’ve got Monday to Thursday off work this week too so gonna go for a walk this morning as it’s a lovely day then possibly try and read Holly Tinsley’s We Men of Ash and Shadow or Certain Dark Things by Silvia Moreno-Garcia today as they’re both quite short books.

Yeah, I know eventually I’ll come out of it. I’m just hoping it’s soon because I have a large TBR haha! 🙂 Thanks!

Oh wow, a whole reread of those! They’re so huge. I don’t know that I could read so many chonkers in a row, that’s impressive. 🙂

I hope you enjoyed your walk. The weather here started getting nicer too and I have to say I’m really loving it. Enjoy your time off! Interested to see how you like Certain Dark Things–I keep meaning to read that one.

You’re not alone, my mood hasn’t been cooperating with reading either! I’m glad you’re enjoying The Unbroken (even if it’s taking you longer than you’d like to read it!), I have a copy from NetGalley I really want to read and review. I’ll look forward to your final thoughts on it! 🙂

    • waytoofantasy says:

Oh no. I would say I’m glad I’m not alone but I don’t wish this non-reading mood on anyone.
Thanks~! Yeah, The Unbroken is really good, it’s definitely going to be a book I recommend. I hope that you enjoy it as well. Good luck with your reading!

Okay, yep, I’m right there with you. I’m feeling this exact same thing as I haven’t really been reading much either and I don’t even know why. Should’ve figured it was my mood but I agree, it really doesn’t feel good. Same also goes for the blogging thing. At this point I’ve fallen so behind I don’t think it’s even possible to catch up so I’m just gonna try to *do better* this week… 🙈 Hope things pick up for you this week, Lisa! ❤️

    • waytoofantasy says:

Oh noooo. That’s not cool. I hope we both get our reading moods back soon.
Yeah, that happened to me before with blogging and to catch up I just did a bunch of mini reviews. It’s not gotten that bad for me yet, so I hope I get it together before then. Good luck, Dini! I hope things pick up for you as well. ❤

Sorry about the rut, Lisa. Sometimes it’s just a matter of finding the right book. I’m the type of person that loves routine, so when that goes out the window, I can’t get anything done😬

I hope you are able to get out of your rut. I am sorry that you are not enjoying The Ruthless Lady’s Guide to Wizardry. I just couldn’t get through that one either. I DNFd it when I realized I was hate reading it. I hope it gets better for you.

    • waytoofantasy says:

      Thank you!
I wish I was enjoying that one more. I’m not quite hate reading it (if I were, that would probably be fun for me in its own way). But I’m halfway now and it does seem to be picking up a bit. Thanks!

Aww man. Sorry your reading isn’t going well and Waggoner’s book isn’t working out at the moment. I recently started it and like it. I like the protag.

  8. dianthaa says:

I had the same experience with The Unbroken, loved it, but my mood wasn’t having it. I eventually sat down with it on Sunday and got through most cause I’d been reading it for a month.

    • waytoofantasy says:

Yeah, I’m hoping I can get through it by the end of this week but I’ve been super busy and my free time has been spent very productively watching Kdramas so…. *sweating*

  9. @lynnsbooks says:

Hope you get out of the rut. My blogging has been terrible just recently, simply because the weather has improved and I’m finding so many jobs to do outside that is taking up a lot of time. Once I get things in order I’m hoping to get back on track.
    Lynn 😀

    • waytoofantasy says:

Thanks, Lynn! Yeah, I do think part of it is because I’ve just been busy doing other things, I was running around all last weekend.
Here’s to hoping we both get back on track soon.
