The questions:

  1. How many books on average do you read per month?

Oh, this is hard to say because it varies wildly depending on my mood and what I’m reading. I’m going to say probably about 12 books a month on average?

2. How many books are on your TBR?

Well, I haven’t recounted since the great purge and I might do a round two at some point…but I’m thinking somewhere in the 500-600 range including digital books. Those are my owned TBR. It’s better than it was. (except I do keep buying new books–look, I can’t help it, they’re so pretty!)

3. How are your books organised on your shelves?

By genre (like all SFF together, general fiction, romance, mystery, nonfiction – by subject). And then alphabetical to the best of my ability (sometimes I run up against space issues on a shelf). My non-fiction and romance aren’t alphabetized though.

4. Which genres do you read most from?

Fantasy, definitely. Next after that would probably be Romance, then maybe Science Fiction.

5. Which genres do you own most of?

1000% Fantasy for sure. 😀

6. Which is your preferred form of reading (physical, audio, ebook..)?

I like all three although I think I’m really keen on ebooks for reading these days just because they’re so convenient! I love having physical books though, I don’t think that will ever change. Although I do see myself shifting from having all books physical and just concentrating on having pretty books in physical format, beloved books and collectors editions and signed copies, etc. Which is still a lot for me LOL.

7. Who is your most owned author?

Hmm, well for SFF probably Anne McCaffrey–I have an entire shelf! In Romance probably Julie Garwood, I used to love her books back in the day although I will admit that not all of them have aged well. I still have a few favorites though. But I think McCaffrey reigns supreme for overall book count. (A lot of her work also hasn’t aged well. Sigh.)

8. Describe your favourite writing style?

I don’t know that I have a favorite as it varies depending on what I’m in the mood for. I do love first person POV books, but as far as prose–I love straight forward and I also love purple. I think my absolute favorite is when the author writes a book so that you don’t know exactly what’s going on and everything feels slightly off kilter like a fever dream or you’re in a bit of a fog…it’s hard to describe but you know it when you come across it.

9. Which literary devices do you like/dislike?

I really love subtle foreshadowing. When it’s too obvious and I figure things out then the revelations aren’t as fun. But I looooove subtle things where you look back and go ‘oh, right, there it is, how about that’. I’m also a huge fan of flashbacks–give me that back story!

10. Which character archetypes do you enjoy?

Well, as a fantasy fan I’m a sucker for an orphan, especially if they also got that guttersnipe thing going for them.

11. Which are your favourite book settings?

I love all kinds of settings! Near future, post-apocalyptic, secondary world fantasy, weird stuff like living bone trees, really just about anything as long as it’s written well. I will say that I have a thing for Regency or faux-Regency settings.

12. Which are your favourite romantic and plot tropes?

Obviosuly Enemies to Lovers but it’s so rarely actually Enemies to Lovers–most of the time it’s strong dislike to lovers. I also love cohabitation romances or There’s Only One Bed. Hah.

Well, that does it for this tag! Not going to tag anyone as per usual but if you like this one and want to fill it out, please consider yourself tagged. 🙂

Glad you enjoyed this one as well!
So many unread books haha! I think I would feel too overwhelmed to have so many! But I agree, it is hard to resist buying new ones!

Fun tag, Lisa😁 You made me think about the author with the most books that I own and I think its definitely Stephen King! I have several shelves of his books, I think.

It’s such a fun tag! 💜 I agree with you on subtle foreshadowing – I love it, too. But yeah it’s always a bummer when it’s too obvious!

Another intriguing tag! I will probably steal it one of these days…
And reading your reply to question 2, I thought for a moment about counting the books in the e-book folder on my computer, but I then decided that I might be frightened by the discovery of the exact size of my TBR, so I took the coward’s way out… 😀 😀

My ebooks aren’t *too* bad, all things considered. I currently have more marked ‘read’ than ‘unread’ at least haha.
Yeah, I do have to say that once you know the numbers it can become a bit daunting.

So true! I remember doing a very *thorough* reread of one of my favorites and it’s amazing how much was foreshadowed when you really pay attention. But I like when it’s not in your face. Otherwise just tell me LOL

Cool tag! I’ll have to do it too. And I’m for the subtle foreshadowing too. I love me some purple prose though. I just love descriptive books.

What a fun tag 😃 I really enjoyed reading your answers, too! I feel like it’s been so long since I’ve read anything with the “one bed” trope and it’s a shame. 😂 Combined with enemies-to-lovers or friends-to-lovers this trope is *chefs kiss* and it just need to happen more!

    • waytoofantasy says:

Thanks, Dini! I had a lot of fun filling this one out for sure. I think the last thing I read with ‘one bed’ was Winter’s Orbit actually. (well, ‘one tent’ but I’m counting it LOL). Yes, I love it when it’s combined with others too. 🙂

I really hope no one in fantasy/romancelandia starts selling really cheap beds so that there end up always being enough.
