WHAT ARE YOU CURRENTLY READING?
Currently working my way through A Conjuring of Assassins by Cate Glass. This is the second book in her Chimera series. Now, Cate Glass is a pen name for Carol Berg who has become one of my favorite authors over the last several years. She loves to put her characters through the ringer and I have to say she still gives them a bit of a rough road to walk even in this new series. Really loving these books and hoping to finish up reading the trilogy this year.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE ‘ CAN’T LEAVE THE HOUSE’ ACTIVITY?
Reading, obviously. 😉 I also like to spend time blogging. And I also, sometimes, get in the mood to reorganize things. Last year in lockdown I was working from home for almost three months and I spent a good chunk of that going through everything in a single room in the house konmari style lol. Once in a great while I’ll do crafts. But mainly I read. And watch tv. Sometimes Kdramas.
A BOOK YOU’VE BEEN MEANING TO READ FOREVER
THERE ARE SO MANY. lolololol. Um, just to pick one? The Dragon Waiting by John M. Ford. Have literally been meaning to read this for years now. Look, I have good intentions about reading books but then I always get distracted by other books. I can’t seem to help myself. This is how I ended up with a gigantic TBR pile.
AN INTIMIDATING BOOK ON YOUR TBR
The Books of Earthsea by Ursula K. LeGuin just because it’s so large! And okay I know this is probably cheating because it’s actually a bunch of books in one book. But it’s so big hahaha.
TOP 3 PRIORITY BOOKS ON MY TBR
Well, this always shifts around. I think right now it’s probably (excluding books listed in my March TBR):
- The Jasmine Throne by Tasha Suri – because it’s an ARC and I like to get those read and out of the way, but also I’m super excited for it!
- A Declaration of the Rights of Magicians by H.G. Parry – picked this one up last year and have been looking forward to it but haven’t had a chance to squeeze it in yet!
- Network Effect by Martha Wells – because for some reason I still haven’t read this yet???? What is wrong with me???
RECOMMEND A SHORT BOOK
Oh this is easy. Silver in the Wood by Emily Tesh was lovely and magical and romantic and only 100 pages. Also! In The Vanishers’ Palace by Aliette de Bodard was simply wonderful–gorgeous prose, weird atmosphere, lots of things to say and it’s also very short.
RECOMMEND A LONG BOOK
The Grace of Kings by Ken Liu! This is a chonk that I absolutely loved. I never knew I’d love learning about battle strategy but here we are. There’s lots of interesting characters and friends caught on different sides of war…it’s an epic in the true sense of the word. And now I have to probably reread it because book three is coming out soon.
SOMETHING YOU’D LOVE TO DO WHILE STUCK AT HOME
I love the idea of getting every single thing in my house in order. But I also find I lack the energy and motivation. If I was truly stuck at home again for a month or more though I could see progress happening.
WHAT DO YOU PLAN ON READING NEXT?
Not sure right now~! I’m going where my mood takes me. 😉
And that’s it for this one! Not going to tag anyone but if you feel like taking a gander at it then consider yourself tagged!
I think the most intimidating book on my tbr is Pillars of the Earth. I want to read it so badly but its just so chonky it scares me!
Oh, I have that somewhere in my tbr as well, but I didn’t count it because I usually only cover my SFF books here haha. Non-sff I think it’s probably going to be any Ken Follett book I have but also I have Mary Queen of Scots by Margaret George which is also *quite* the chonker!
I always have good intentions of going through and cleaning stuff out but it always sounds like a good idea until I’m faced with actually doing it, lol.
It is a lot of work haha. And you have to be in the right mood for it! I keep waiting for the mood to come around again because I have so many areas I need to go through, purge, and reorganize around this house. (It’s not even that big of a house!)
Exactly the same here!!
When lockdown started I actually planned to clean from top to bottom every single room in my flat, every single detail… ah, didn’t do it. Haha, completely lack the initiative!
You really do have to be in the right mood. Luckily I just had a bit of a kick but it wore off eventually and now I’m waiting for that urge to come around again haha.
I’ve been thinking for *months* about ordering the closet while checking what must be kept and what should be thrown away or donated. As I said, ‘thinking’, which is a far cry from actually doing it – and it’s not as if I did not have the time! (((SIGH)))
😀
I will say that I do love a good purge, it’s just I have to work myself up to it lol
Great post, friend! My TBR tends to change a bit too, especially if new releases come out that I refuse to wait for. I’ve gotten a little better with it in time though.
I actually have Silver in the Wood, but haven’t gotten to it yet. A big part of this year is simply catching up on books I already own, and I got that one free from TOR. Here’s hoping I enjoy it as much as you did!
I really enjoyed Silver in the Wood. It’s such a gentle story. With a murderous foe thrown in near the end lol.
Oh cool! If you loved it I hopefully should too. Also it’s pretty short, so it’s a quick read. Sounds like the book for me!
I’d like to get everything in my house in order too, but I go about cleaning and organizing in such a leisurely manner that by the time I’m done, I’ll need to start all over again.
No I get it, that’s what happens to me too usually. That’s why I’m constantly in ‘and my next project is’ mode LOL.
I really hope to read The Grace of Kings. I have that book waiting for me on my shelf but waiting is all it is doing, for the moment!
I really loved The Grace of Kings which is odd because it normally wouldn’t be my type of book. It’s LARGE and fairly military focused. But honestly I found it to be an engaging read.
I never seem to read any short books, so will have to check out the titles you mentioned there. I always seem to go for massive books and then wonder why I don’t read many books over the year 😀
I’ve been reading more novellas now days thanks to Tor.com and also self-publishing. I’m glad because sometimes I’m just in the mood for something that’s not a huge book lol. 🙂
I loved The Grace of Kings so can anyone explain why I haven’t continued with that series. Oh, something about time and too many things. Drat it.
Lynn 😀
I don’t know but if so they can also explain why I haven’t picked up book 2 yet either haha. I think a couple of reading friends are planning a reread of books 1 and 2 later this year in prep for book 3’s release so I may join in that, we’ll see. 🙂
But yeah, time and too many things–I am familiar!
