TBR Shelf Cleanup #53

Time for another round up of books from my TBR to go through! Each week I’ll be going over a selection from my physical unread books and deciding what to keep and what to purge. There will be a third option–undecided–which I might ask for your input on why you think I should keep or purge that title from my list. You can also check out my full TBR pile here.

No Sleep till Doomsday by Laurence MacNaughton

When a deadly enchantress steals an amulet of unimaginable power, crystal sorceress Dru Jasper must risk everything to get it back. With this amulet in hand, the enchantress could break the sixth seal of the apocalypse scroll. If she does, the seas will boil, the stars will fall from the sky, and the earth itself will split apart. Overall, bad news.

There’s only one way to stop doomsday: find the apocalypse scroll first. But Dru’s attempts to track down the scroll run smack up against the dark secrets of her half-demon boyfriend, Greyson. His uncanny connection to the demon-possessed muscle car Hellbringer could threaten the fate of the world–unless Dru can find a way to break his curse for good.

This was a win in a giveaway by a follow blogger and I’m sorry that I haven’t gotten to it yet. I’m terrible. Boooooooo. Anyway, I do still hope to read this as it looks quite fun! KEEP

Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep? by Philip K. Dick

It was January 2021, and Rick Deckard had a license to kill.
Somewhere among the hordes of humans out there, lurked several rogue androids. Deckard’s assignment–find them and then…”retire” them. Trouble was, the androids all looked exactly like humans, and they didn’t want to be found!

This is one of the few classics that I might still be kind of interested in. On the other hand it’s a classic and I typically don’t mesh well with classics. But I’m still kind of intrigued. Hmmm. UNDECIDED

Theft of Swords by Michael J. Sullivan

THEY KILLED THE KING. THEY PINNED IT ON TWO MEN. THEY CHOSE POORLY.

There’s no ancient evil to defeat or orphan destined for greatness, just unlikely heroes and classic adventure. Royce Melborn, a skilled thief, and his mercenary partner, Hadrian Blackwater, are two enterprising rogues who end up running for their lives when they’re framed for the murder of the king. Trapped in a conspiracy that goes beyond the overthrow of a tiny kingdom, their only hope is unraveling an ancient mystery before it’s too late.

I know a lot of people love his work and that’s one of the reasons I picked this up but I just don’t have an interest in reading it. PURGE

Wrapt in Crystal by Sharon Shinn

When a planet’s religious sects fall victim to a serial killer, an Interfed agent must immerse himself in a world of stark spirituality to save the lives of two extraordinary women…

Well, I love Shinn so I’m definitely keeping this one. I will keep all my unread Shinn and hope that I get to it some day soon. KEEP

Son of the Shadows by Juliet Marillier

After years of comparative peace, darkness has fallen upon Ulster. Trouble is brewing and even those in the heart of the forest are not safe. Niamh, elder daughter of Sorcha, is required to make a strategic marriage, while her sister Liadan, who has the gift of Sight and her mother’s talent for healing, finds herself drawn into the shadowy world of the Painted Man and his warrior band. There Liadan begins a journey that is to transform her life.

I have this and two other of the Sevenwaters sequels. I’ve heard that the sequels aren’t as good as Daughter of the Forest, but I do still want to read them. KEEP

That’s all for now! This brings my total count to:

Well, I think I’m still making good progress–yes my TBR is still large but at least I’m skimming some books off the top. What do you think about my choices here? Anything you’d do differently? Leave a note in the comments, I’d love to chat!

I can’t even remember how I stumbled across the Riyria Revelations but I devoured that series 😂 It was so good! Do Androids Dream of Sheep is also on my TBR and I’m not sure if I’ll ever get around to reading it or if I still want to. It intimidates me 😅

I know a lot of people love Riyria but I just don’t feel like reading it LOL. Glad you loved them! Yes, I feel the same way about Androids…it’s a classic and those always feel like they’ll have a lot of weight to them.

I really loved Do Androids Dream… And I was really really doubtful toward that book. It is also true that I read it something like 10 years ago so I cannot really say if I would love it still, but I think that it was great (and I have a really bad relationship with classics too!)
