Time for another round up of books from my TBR to go through! Each week I’ll be going over a selection from my physical unread books and deciding what to keep and what to purge. There will be a third option–undecided–which I might ask for your input on why you think I should keep or purge that title from my list. You can also check out my full TBR pile here.

Curse of the Mistwraith by Janny Wurts

The world of Athera lives in eternal fog, its skies obscured by the malevolent Mistwraith. One of these days I’m going to start this dense epic fantasy from Janny Wurts. It’s going to be a labor of love and I’m going to have to do it as a project read but I very much want to experience this series. I have this one and three sequels in the series. KEEP

Web of the Witch World by Andre Norton

Simon Tregarth, whose own Earthly prowess had won him a throne and a witch-wife in an alien world, knew that both triumphs were precarious as long as the super-science of Kolder held a foothold on that planet.

I have no idea why I picked these up. Okay I do–I was looking for classic sff at one point. But of course I’m not so interested in reading those anymore. I have this and one other Witch World book. PURGE

Dragonhaven by Robin McKinley

In this fascinating look at a modern-day world where dragons truly exist, the Newbery Medal-winning author of The Hero and the Crown takes readers into a controversial nature preserve, which about 200 of the worlds few remaining dragons call home.

I’m a fan of McKinley’s work and so I’m wanting to go through the backlist at some point so I’m hanging on to this one for sure. KEEP

Lady in the Loch by Elizabeth Ann Scarborough

The harsh winter forcing the traveling people into Edinburgh becomes known as the Terror Time. Body snatchers prey upon the living and the dead alike, selling their victims for study by the student physicians at the medical school. And who will miss a gypsy girl with no settled folk to seek for her? A young gypsy named Midge Margret is sure that a gentleman writer and collector of folk music named Walter Scott, now sheriff of Edinburgh, will care. He befriended her family before and once more he promises to help find the murderer who prowls the snowy forest in a black coach.

Not really sure when, where or why I got this one, but I’m okay with letting it go since I feel so indifferent about it. UNDECIDED

American Gods by Neil Gaiman

Days before his release from prison, Shadow’s wife, Laura, dies in a mysterious car crash. Numbly, he makes his way back home. On the plane, he encounters the enigmatic Mr Wednesday, who claims to be a refugee from a distant war, a former god and the king of America. Together they embark on a profoundly strange journey across the heart of the USA, whilst all around them a storm of preternatural and epic proportions threatens to break.

You know, this is one that I struggled with and probably should be an ‘undecided’ because I tried this book before and was kind of over it by page 3. I’m so hit or miss with Gaiman–he’s written some of my favorite stuff and then some things don’t work for me at all. Nevertheless, going to hang on to this one for now. KEEP
