I saw this tag over at Zezee with Books and thought it looked fun so where we are! The Book Buying Habits Tag was originally created by booktuber Megan Olivier.

WHERE DO YOU BUY YOUR BOOKS?

All over? Used bookstores in person, used bookstores online, local independent bookstores both in person and online, big box bookstores (like Barnes & Noble or Books a Million), thrift stores, online retailers like Amazon, Audible, Goldsboro UK, Forbidden Planet UK….sometimes I get a book box subscription too.

DO YOU EVER PREORDER BOOKS AND IF SO, DO YOU DO THIS IN STORE OR ONLINE?

If I pre-order it’s usually online and usually on Amazon (I know they’re an evil corporation but they’re cheap and I buy A LOT of books…). But also sometimes I’ll do a pre-order from one of my local indie bookstores or an out of state indie bookstore if they have some kind of special like signed copies or something. I don’t think I’ve ever pre-ordered something in person….well maybe but it’s probably been 15-20 years (Walden Books, I miss you!)

ON AVERAGE, HOW MANY BOOKS DO YOU BUY A MONTH?

I’ve tried to cut down but…probably 17 on average? Including all my digital books? This is how my TBR pile gets out of control hahahahaha.

DO YOU USE YOUR LOCAL LIBRARY?

Yes, of course!

IF SO – HOW MANY BOOKS CAN YOU/DO YOU BORROW AT A TIME?

I think we are allowed to borrow a couple hundred at once (I looked it up once, don’t ask). Usually I’ll have 2-3 out at a time but once when I was binge reading the Yona of the Dawn manga I had something like 20 books out at once haha.

WHAT IS YOUR OPINION ON LIBRARY BOOKS?

I love them? The library will always be my first love. ❤

HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT CHARITY SHOPS/SECOND-HAND BOOKS?

Love those too! I mean I’ve found some interesting books in used book stores that I never would have come across in a regular store.

DO YOU KEEP YOUR READ AND TBR PILE TOGETHER/ON THE SAME BOOKSHELF OR NOT?

Yeah, I don’t really have a separate pile, a lot of books on my regular shelves are unread. But also I do have one of those three tiered carts in my living room that I keep some of my TBR books on, the higher priority ones.

DO YOU PLAN TO READ ALL THE BOOKS YOU OWN?

Hmmm, I mean I’d LIKE to but realistically that’s not going to happen. Plus there are a couple of books that I keep for nostalgia that I feel like I’ll probably never get to. So….no?

WHAT DO YOU DO WITH BOOKS YOU OWN THAT YOU FEEL YOU’LL NEVER READ/FELT YOU DIDN’T ENJOY?

Well, before I would just hang onto them forever but recently I’ve been going through a bit of a purge/unhaul process so I’ve pulled a bunch from my shelves and some of them will be given away and those in bad condition will be recycled.

HAVE YOU EVER DONATED BOOKS?

Yep! I used to take them to a place here called The Book Thing that gives away books for free–it’s like a HUGE little free library haha. But they closed for donations so I’ll probably donate a lot to goodwill. I also have a pile I’m going to stick in the nearest little free library to me (which is still about 20 mins away because apparently no one in my immediate area actually reads…).

HAVE YOU EVER BEEN ON A BOOK-BUYING BAN?

Well yes, kind of sort of. I’m supposed to be on one this year but it hasn’t really been working out. Let’s just blame it on 2020 and call it a day.

DO YOU FEEL THAT YOU BUY TOO MANY BOOKS?

What is too many? Haha. Um….maybe. My husband certainly thinks so. 😉
