Yay, another tag! I’m not quite sure who originally created this one, but I recently (somewhat haha) saw this tag over at Space and Sorcery and thought it looked like a fun one to fill out.
How do you keep track on your TBR list?
Well, I only consider books officially on my TBR if I own them. I keep a catalog of all my owned books through library thing but I also started a spreadsheet from a more recent cataloging project I did from libib of just my speculative fiction and I consider all my unread owned books from that my official TBR. I’m currently going through the process of purging that. I’ll admit that it does need to be updated with all the new books I’ve added to it over this year….
Is your TBR mostly print or e-book?
It’s probably about 70% physical books and then about 30% digital at this point. Although I am stacking those ebooks up more and more lately. π
How do you determine which book from your TBR to read next?
Right now it’s basically mood reading all the way. So I’ll take a look and see what I’m in the mood for. Although I am also trying to make an effort at reading books that have been in the TBR pile for a while so I’m trying not to just browse through the latest additions.
Name a book that has been on your TBR the longest.
Oh, this is an easy one. The Mageborn Traitor by Melanie Rawn has been in my TBR pile since 1997.
Name a book that you recently added to your TBR list.
Probably one of the most recent adds was Harrow the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir. I still have to read the first book in that series too. Ahahaha, I have a problem lol.
Is there a book thatβs on your TBR list strictly because of its beautiful cover?
Oh, so many. Pretty much all of Patricia McKillip’s books–the good thing is that her prose is just as beautiful. But I’ll admit I also picked up Of Sorrow and Such by Angela Slatter just because of the cover.
Is there a book on your TBR that you never plan on actually reading?
Maybe The Mageborn Traitor! I mean, right now I’m going through a purge trying to eliminate those books that I have no intentions of reading. But I debate about reading The Mageborn Traitor all the time because it’s a series that will probably never be finished. Also when I first got the book I flipped to the back to see how many pages there were and I saw something about my favorite character dying so I never wanted to read it because if I don’t read it then it’s like it doesn’t happen, right? That’s how that works.
Name an unpublished book on your TBR that youβre excited for.
I don’t have any unpublished on my official TBR because of what I consider my actual TBR. BUT. I will say one that I’m excited for that I have an eARC of is Spellbreaker by Charlie N. Holmberg–always excited to see what new thing she’s come up with.
Is there a book on your TBR that basically everyone has read but you?
Probably either Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin or The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson.
Is there a book on your TBR that everyone recommends you read?
I don’t think there’s any ONE book but there are a lot that when I bring them up people are like ‘I can’t believe you haven’t read that yet’. Mmmmm, maybe Foundryside by Robert Jackson Bennett.
A book on your TBR youβre very excited to read.
Network Effect by Martha Wells. I’ve been so excited for this one but just haven’t found the time somehow to read it yet? I’m always so busy with other books. Maybe sometime this month…
The number of books on your TBR shelf.
Some people can fit it on a single shelf? AHAHAHAHAHAHA. Ummm, I have over 800 at last count.
And that’s it for this tag! Not going to tag anyone with this one but if you feel like filling it out, please give it a whirl. π
Ooh this tag looks like fun!
Over 800 unread books on your shelves..!! How many shelves do you have in total (with read books as well?) I think I own like 10 unread physical books ahhaah!
Well, I have four large book cases with my fantasy books and one smaller book case. They’re pretty packed! I even have the tops of them stuffed with books lol. About 200 of the 800 are digital, so I think probably about 50% of my shelves are read and about 50% are unread….. π
Good on you for keeping your TBR so low! That’s maximum control haha.
Ooh that saves some space!
Yes the control is so hard..! I was in the secondhand bookstore yesterday, idk how I only walked out with one book..! (It helps that 70% of the books are Dutch and I don’t read those haha)
Second hand bookstores is how I accumulated such a huge pile lol. I have a really heard time restraining myself! π
This sounds like a fun tag! I might try it! Also 800 unread books?!! Omg. But who am I say to that when I have close to three hundred unread books, physical and ebook combined. πππ
Yeah, it’s gotten totally out of hand hahaha. I’m in the process of purging. Hopefully can get that number down a bit. π
I love that your idea of a TBR is different than mine, and it makes sense! My “to read” on Goodreads is over 3,000 books because ANY book that catches my eye and I consider to be something I might read goes on it. I should purge it because after almost 10 years on Goodreads, there are a bunch of old books I’ve lost interest in.
Yeah, I do the same with my goodreads which is why I don’t consider it an ‘official’ TBR, just a place to keep track of books I don’t want to forget about. π
3000 is a lot!
Oooooh another tag! I love your answers! I also count TBR only when I own the book! If not, they’ll be too much to followππ
Thanks! Right, that’s exactly why I do it that way. Although in my case it’s still too many to keep track of hahaha. π
This was so fun to read!!
The 1997 book made me laugh out loud!! Amazing!! π
Thanks! It is pretty hilarious when you think about it. Maybe I’ll keep it forever unread and it will always be the book I’ve had in my TBR the longest…..lol.
LOL – maybe you get to establish a new world record!
Maybe! LOL
I love your responses! I’m a total mood reader as well!
Thanks! Sometimes I can stick to a plan but most of the time I go off of any list I make and just read whatever, haha. Mood reading for the win! π
this is such a cool tag!! i’m totally with you on the mood reading lol. and wow, 800 unread books?? I hope you can get to them soon!π
Yeah, mood reading is the life right now lol.
Hah! Thanks! I have a feeling a good chunk will be getting purged. π
LOLOL I don’t even want to know how many books would be on my TBR if I just looked at the ones that I already own. My Goodreads TBR which is a combo of owned and wishlist is already close to 1.2k books so… *cough* that’s… Fun? π This is a great fun tag! Might do this at some point π€ͺ
I was a bit dismayed to see the number so high when I sat down and counted them last year haha. Welp!
Hope you get a chance to fill it out, it was a ton of fun. π
This is indeed a fun tag – and it’s also useful because it requires us to focus on the actual state of our TBRs, although you are quite ahead in that respect with your keep/purge weekly post!
And it’s a comfort to see that I’m not the only one with The Way of Kings still sitting unread on her TBR… π
Well, I try to focus on it but I keep getting distracted by other books LOL. But I am making some progress. π
Maybe there’s a club out there somewhere for people with WoK in the TBRs hah. π
Lol I like the laughter in the last question. It would be nice to one day have just one shelf of unread books.
It’s weird, but I think of my Goodreads “to read” list as my TBR and the books I own as “unread books.”
That’s an interesting way to do it!
Also, yeah, that would be nice! Reader goals, haha. Our plan is to move in 5 years (depending on a lot of factors) and if all things work out I might do an even bigger purge of unread and read books just to cut down on how many boxes I need to move–so it could *possibly* happen LOL!
I had a huge book purge a few years ago and was totally ruthless and I tend to only buy electronic books these days – I do have rather a lot on there, and it’s a messy place, but the fact that I can’t see all the books lets me get away with all sorts of reckless buying without guilt!
Lynn π
Yeah I think I’ll have this mini purge (I’ll probably get rid of around 150 books or so) but then our game plan is to move in about 5 years so I’ll probably have a giant purge before then…
Oh, I know what you mean about ebooks, I feel the same way and also have the same reckless buying habit with them haha. Although I do usually wait for sales–the sales are so hard to resist!
I had to give away a bunch of my books because they were literally piling all over my room. How on earth do you make space for 800? π
Lots of shelves
