This Week in Reading: Chugging Along

The train is still going and I haven’t hit another slump yet! Although I did hit a slight rough patch for a couple of days where I felt panicked because I wanted to read about five different books at one time and it momentarily paralyzed my reading. But then I soldiered on and everything seems to be (mostly?) fine now. (This is what happens when you’re a mood reader and in the mood for too many books at once.)

Over the last week I finished three books–all in print! One was an eARC (so I only have on left now, yay!), one romance novel, and one SFF from my 20 Books of Summer challenge. So, overall some good progress!

In audio, I’m still working my way through Vita Nostra by Marina and Sergey Dyachenko. This book is so weird, I love it so far. Really love how nothing has been explained even halfway through. I don’t even care if it’s never explained, I think that’s part of the charm for me. Should be able to finish this one up by the end of the week, it really just depends on how much time I get to listen to audiobooks.

In print, well, there are million books I should be reading and I really was floundering trying to figure out what I’m in the mood for next so while waiting for my mood to adjust I’m decided to keep on reading The Others series by Anne Bishop because I’ve been loving those books so far. Next up is book 4–Marked in Flesh. Can’t wait to see how this one goes!

It probably won’t take me more than a couple of days to get through Marked in Flesh so I might read a romance or some other book who knows? It probably won’t be one on any current lists, unless I’m suddenly in the mood for one of them. Guess we’ll see! What are you reading this week? Leave a note in the comments, I’d love to chat!

I just started Where Dreams Descend for a blog tour next week, and I’m not sure how I feel about it yet. The writing style is bugging me a little. Hopefully it pulls me in otherwise I’m in trouble!

OKAY SO I TOTALLY GET THAT – wanting to read wayy too many books at the sameee time! Such an innocent yet nerve-wracking dilemma! xD

AND OH MY GODD I AM SO EXCITED FOR YOUR REVIEW OF Vita Nostra because this one sounds delightfully weird! JUST THE WAY I LIKE IT! 😉 ❤ ❤ ❤

Wanting to read several books at a time is the kind of situation (or should I say “syndrome”?) we all experience, because of the differential between readable books and free time… (((insert huge frustrated sigh))). 😉

You are smashing the Anne Bishop books. I’ve stopped for a bit – not because I’m not enjoying them but I thought I’d make some progress with my SPFBO books and see if I can get ahead of the game. I do have 3 audio credits though ^^

I do honestly have other things to be reading but I have to go where my mood tells me or it seems I don’t get any reading done at all. Good luck with your next batch of SPFBO books!

I just finished my reread of Fellowship of the Ring, and it has made me desperately crave other high fantasies, so now I’m also doing the thing where I want to read fifteen books at once because I’m just like ALL THE MAGIC!!! I might settle on Kingsbane by Claire Legrand & Somaiya Daud’s new release, Court of Lions.

Haha, yes, totally relate to the 15 books at once thing. It’s tough though because I’m in the middle of a book that I’m really enjoying but part of me keeps wanting to read ten other books? LOL Oh, both of those look great. Hope you find something you love! 🙂

Have you ever ended up in a reading slump without realizing it? That happened to me, and I’m now slowly getting out of it. I didn’t realize it was slump. I thought I was just “taking a break from reading” when I was actually just avoiding books because I didn’t feel like reading.

    • waytoofantasy says:

Yes. I think it’s what happens when I’m spinning my wheels trying to figure out what to read next and I’m somehow either in the mood for 10 different books or nothing is standing out to me. Glad that you’re getting out of your slump! Yay to slump-busters!

I’m feeling the exact same way at the moment with not knowing which book to pick next because I don’t even know what kind of mood I’m in and it’s driving me completely batty 😅 I wish I could skim through 5+ books at one time just to see which one suits my weirdo mood best right now… That’d be an awesome super power 😂

It’s so weird! I hope you find something you’re in the mood for soon. My current book I expected to speed through and even though I’m loving it, it’s taking longer than I’d hoped–I think it’s just my mood bleh.

Hahaha, that WOULD be an awesome superpower–I would sign up for that one! 🙂
