This Week in Reading: The Rollercoaster Continues

I feel like my reading has been one great week followed by a disastrous week followed by another great week followed by another terrible week and here I am on the upswing again with a good week once again. Based on this pattern this coming week will be horrible but hopefully that pattern will break because I have a lot of reading I want to accomplish in August!

Anywho. Last week I managed to finish three books and get significantly through a fourth. Huzzah! I’m still not finished one of the books I’ve been reading for a while but hoping to cross that one off my list this week. Mood reading continues to mean things are weird as my mood has been all over the place. At least I’ve managed to get massively ahead in my blogging! (I hope I didn’t just jinx myself…haha.)

This week in print I’m reading Empire of Sand by Tasha Suri. I’ve been meaning to read this one a while (it’s been in my TBR for at least a year now) and we’re reading it for our HEA bookclub on r/fantasy this month so how fortuitous! Glad for an excuse to finally get to this one.

In audio I’m checking out The Queen’s Road by R.S. Belcher. I’ve heard good things about this one from some of my fellow book bloggers and so when I was looking for new audiobooks picked this one up. This is on my Twenty Books of Summer list so looking to cross off another title, weee! This is a relatively short listen, I believe, so hopefully I’ll finish it up before the week is over.

Other books I may or may not start/finish this week–if I finish up The Queen’s Road, my next audio will probably be Peace Talks by Jim Butcher. This is isn’t on any of my reading lists but it’s a new release I really want to get to. I’m also working on Death of a Necromancer by Martha Wells still–hopefully I’ll be able to finish that one up soon. And those are my plans, such as they are. What are you reading this week? Leave a note in the comments, I’d love to chat!

Ooh I just finished Empire of Sand over the weekend and really enjoyed it! πŸ˜€ I look forward to hearing your thoughts on it. I’m still slowly making my way through Assassin’s Quest by Robin Hobb – I’m enjoying it, it’s just taking a while to get going – and I’m planning to pick up Queen of the Conquered by Kacen Callender and Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia asap. Happy reading!

That’s good to know–I’ve heard a lot of good things about it so I’m excited to dig in!
Looking forward to your thoughts on Assassin’s Quest–I think that book is what made me realize why people love Hobb so much and I finally became a fan. πŸ™‚
I’ve heard great things about both of those others as well and hope to get to them myself one day, enjoy!

I wrapped up a pair of books over the weekend and closed out my 2 July reading challenges, so back into the review pile this week, starting with The Memory of Souls by Jenn Lyons. I’m also deep into a reread of Oathbringer by Brandon Sanderson in anticipation of Rhythm of War.

I loved The Queen’s Road! I just started Ashes of the Sun by Django Wexler and it’s already so good. Hope you have an upswing week😁

    • waytoofantasy says:

Yeah, I think I picked it up because you liked it so much so here’s hoping I love it too. πŸ™‚
Ooh, hope you love that one, I am interested in what you think of it. Enjoy your reading Tammy! πŸ™‚

Ahh, I hope that pesky pattern breaks soon! Empire of Sand sounds amazing! I’m currently reading The Silvered Serpents by Roshani Chokshi (i swear i’m just procrastinating lord of shadows on purpose nowπŸ˜…) I hope you have a great week!πŸ’œ

Thanks! I was supposed to start it yesterday but I wound up staying home sick then I was going to start it on my commute today but it was pouring rain from that tropical storm so I couldn’t hear so I guess it will be on my way home haha. πŸ™‚

I can definitely relate to the having great reading weeks followed by horrible reading weeks. I feel like every time I pat myself on the back for having a great week of reading, I’m also cursing myself at the same time πŸ˜‚ My moods have been all over the show as well and I’m currently in an in-between where I don’t know if I’m feeling what I’m reading but also don’t know what I feel like picking it up. Being a mood reader really sucks sometimes haha I do hope you have a great week of reading ahead though! ❀

    • waytoofantasy says:

Yes, that’s what’s been happening to me, it’s frustrating. Being a mood reader sucks really hard right now, this year has been quite fraught with…everything. But I hope to get back in right mood and stay there for a while! Thanks, I hope you have a great week too!

At least you’ve got a pattern to look forward to, right? xD So unhelpful, I know haha. I’ve heard good things about The Queen’s Road, too! I’ll be interested to hear what you think. Hope this ends up being a good reading week for you.

Empire of Sand sounds amazing!! πŸ˜€
I hope to finish A Memory Called Empire in the next few days, it’s as good as I expected to be. After that, I will probably have a scifi book and read either a thriller or a romance to change things up a bit! ^^

    • waytoofantasy says:

Thanks, I hope I enjoy it! Can’t wait to see your full thoughts on Memory–I’ll admit I struggled with that one even if I do admire the writing and scholarship that went into it (maybe it was the audio and I should try it in text…haha). Enjoy your reading!

      • waytoofantasy says:

Yeah, books don’t always work for me on audio, it depends on the narrator and how engaging the story is. I think this one would have worked better for me in text lol. It has A LOT going on. πŸ™‚

I’m curious to see what you think of Empire of Sand! It’s also been on my owned TBR for forever and a day, and it’s one of those “keep meaning to get to” books.
