The Sunday Post #37

thesundaypost

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated Reviewer. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

Random News And Goings-On

This week has been odd. At home things have been really routine and not a lot going on other than starting to prepare things for this bathroom and partial kitchen remodel we’ll be doing later this year. I’ve been (very slowly) working on this embroidery project I started, my first ever, because I like hand sewing but don’t often do it and always wanted to take up a hobby that would allow me to keep my hands busy while I can listen to an audiobook. This is my first ever project and it’s going okay I guess but some of these stitches will take more practice than others. I’ve also decided that I want to jump into a really ambitious embroidery project after I finish up this practice piece because that’s just how I roll–patience is NOT my strong suit lol.

Then, on the other hand, work has been SUPER stressful. Everyone seems so on edge. We switched to a new web platform that we’ve been preparing for right at the start of lockdown back in March and there are so many things to work out, stuff isn’t going right or we keep running into things that are supposed to work one way but don’t actually and sales are down and my boss thinks it’s because of the site and not because of the pandemic so there’s just a lot of push to get things done but because my boss is my boss he can’t focus on one thing so there’s a lot of spinning wheels and jumping from one project to the next and it’s all very frustrating. It’s a lot and it’s also a pretty toxic environment as my boss treats everyone like shit, throwing people under the bus and yelling/getting an attitude. But I’m lucky to have a job right now, right? I’ve been searching for a new job but it’s hard right now with everything. Stupid pandemic! Anywho, I’m sure things will all work out somehow.

New Book Arrivals at Way Too Fantasy

Physical Books

So….I loved the first book in The Others series by Anne Bishop so much that I ordered the next two in the series. Holding off from diving straight into these as Lynn (who I buddy read book one with) and I would like to try and read book two together as well and we both have other books to read before jumping into the next one. I’m really excited for these though! And I’m glad they won’t remain on my TBR shelf as long as the first one did. 😉

Ebooks

Only a couple of ebooks the past couple of weeks–I’ve been pretty good! My pre-order of Boyfriend Material by Alexis Hall came in (and I devoured it) and I just picked up Amber & Dusk by Lyra Selene after Mary @ Mary and the Words talked me into it by saying it was the tropiest book that ever troped. 😉  It was also only $1.99  and I’m a very easy sell, lol.

Audiobooks

No new audiobooks this time around but I should have a couple next update as my audible credits will be in. I think I know what I’m spending them on too. Or at least one of them. 🙂

That’s the news for this week, see you next time!

I’m sorry you gotta deal with such a person at work.
At one of my old jobs, when review time came around, we were also able to review our supervisors, which their supervisors would consider. That way, a supervisor would know if their management is really sucky.

It’s a small business and our boss is the company owner/president. There’s currently….four permanent employees and one temp. We don’t even have reviews anymore. It’s like all of those reality tv shows where you see the owners acting nuts and think ‘this can’t possibly be real’ while you munch popcorn. Only in those types of small businesses it’s probably all too common. I…kind of miss corporate America lol.

Ugh, work! I’m not super happy at my job either but like you said, it seems like the wrong time to be switching jobs. Our sales are down too and I’m sort of hoping my boss puts me back on part time! Hope you have a good week, Lisa😁

    • waytoofantasy says:

Thanks, Tammy! Sorry that things aren’t going too well for you at work either right now. Best we can do is hang in there though and hope for the best! Hope you have a good week too!

Ahhh, I hope you enjoy Amber & Dusk! I totally devoured the duology, and it’s a lot of fun.

I feel you on the work issues. I’m trying to find my way out, but my goodness, what a time to be looking for a change right now. I hope you’re able to find some peace and relief outside of your job. ❤

I have a feeling I’ll probably do the same once I start it–it really sounds like my type of entertainment. 🙂

It’s soooo tough trying to find a job right now. It was tough before but now it feels impossible. Luckily my home life is mostly chill so I’ve been trying to forget about work when I’m not there.

Well, that’s good, at least! It’s so important to have somewhere that’s not overflowing with the toxicity, too. I’ve been making sure I don’t use my laptop much at night because it’s what I’m working on all day, and I’ll just keep checking email if I keep it open, and that’s not fun for anyone. But yeah, finding something just feels like it’s never going to happen right now. I guess keep persevering? I’m still applying, and trying to stay positive. It’ll happen for both of us eventually!

      • waytoofantasy says:

That’s a good idea with the laptop. I try not to bust it out too much on weeknights either–I try to sneak in some blog stuff during work time or get a bunch done on the weekends so I can relax when I’m home.
It’s tough out there right now. And because we’re in such a small office I panic–my coworker just came back from lunch earlier and he had an interview on his break and I’m like ‘noooo don’t leave me here alone!’ (because it’s only me and him in sales/customer service). OTOH I can’t blame anyone for getting out cuz we’re all trying! Good luck to you!

New software platforms always need some “on-site” testing and a few adjustments before they can perfectly suit the user’s needs, and your boss should be aware that this time of trial-and-error is part of the learning curve. But he reacts quite weirdly, it seems…
    Hang in there! 🙂

    • waytoofantasy says:

Well there are a whole host of issues that I won’t go into because it’s a long and boring story but part of the issue is that my boss can never do something in a straightforward way, everything always gets over-complicated, and it’s because of this that things aren’t working as they should and we’re having to go back and clean up a ton of stuff in order to make things work correctly. Ugh. Also my boss is weird so…lol.
      Thanks! I’m trying. 🙂

I am all reading for our next buddy read. I loved the first of the Others, it was such a fresh and original UF it made me genuinely happy to pick it up.
    Lynn 😀
