This Week in Reading: So Very Tired

Last week was a bit strange. It was my last partial work from home week but I ended up going up to the office on one of my WFH days anyway due to circumstances. I also am going through some personal things that I’d rather not bring up here so as not to air all my dirty laundry but blogging duties might take a bit of a back seat now and then as I work through some things. Don’t worry, I’m not really going anywhere, but if you see a couple of post-less days here or there or if I’m behind on blog hopping more than normal (so so sorry for being behind again!) then I’m just devoting some time to other pursuits. πŸ™‚

So, yeah, I had some ups and downs last week. One of the ups was driving down to the beach for the day. Had an excellent time. Took a book down there with me but didn’t get a lot of reading done as I spent a lot of time in the ocean bopping up and down on the waves. It was so relaxing. I wish I could be in the water every day–I’m very fond of swimming.

I read three historical romance novels and one SFF novel. That’s still a lot of reading but it doesn’t feel like I did a lot of reading at all. And I also didn’t finish the books I’m ‘supposed’ to be reading. So. Argh! lol

I didn’t make much progress with The Obsidian Tower by Melissa Caruso once again. I think I’m something like 6 or 7% into it. I don’t know why I can’t let myself get carried away but this story but I suspect it’s just my mood. I even had a hard time reading one of my romance novels so maybe I just don’t feel like reading. Anywho. Hoping I’ll feel up to it this week.

I’m about halfway through Valor’s Choice by Tanya Huff. This is the first in her Confederate series and there’s a lot of set up in this one before things start to happen. That being said, I’m enjoying it. I hope to finish this one up in a day or two, just in time for my next audio release to arrive.

On the 30th my audio pre-order of The Empire of Gold by S. A. Chakraborty will arrive and I’m super excited for that! So I’ll be diving into that one as soon as I finish up the Huff book. Can’t wait to see how this series wraps up–it’s been a wild ride so far.

Now, this is what I intend to read this week, but who knows what I’ll actually read? Everything is up in the air these days depending on my mood. What are you reading this week? Leave a note in the comments, I’d love to chat!

I started some free download of an action thriller called “101 people to kill before I die”. Although the story-line was promising, I’ve put down the book because of its obscene language use. I will stick again to recommendations of reviewers. I can’t waste any time on bad reading experiments.

I’m sorry to hear that you’ve been having a rough time! Your day at the beach floating along with the waves sounds quite soothing and relaxing though. Take all the time you need to focus on yourself and I hope that your week ahead is better. If you ever need an ear, you can always reach out ❀ Big hugs!

Thank you! The beach was nice. It probably won’t be noticeable that I’m stepping back a bit other than blog hopping as I have so many posts prescheduled haha. Again, thank you so much, really appreciate it. ❀

Hey, we all have to step away from the blog at times, so do take care of yourself😁 I just finished a book that was a real struggle to get through and I’m so happy I’m done with it!

      Thanks!
I’m really excited for it and trying to hurry up and finish my current audiobook so I can start it tomorrow. I only have like 3 hours left on this one so it might be doable. *crosses fingers*

I just found out that apparently I pre-ordered it on Amazon (????), so it’s going to be here *on* Tuesday, not on Thursday or Friday like I figured, so I guess I’m just not going to read anything today?

    Enjoy your reading!
I’m trying to catch up on some ARCs from NetGalley haha! Also I’m listening to Assassin’s quest, but it is taking a while since the book is so long!

I hope all is well and that next week would be better!! I have yet to see the sea this summer but I am craving it! I am not a lover of the sea on the long period, but a day here and there is just bliss!! Sadly my boyfriend doesn’t love the sea at all… And he is from an island! Argh!!
Anyway, this isn’t the best period for reading to me, too. This week I have read just one book, Aurora Burning, and I did not love it as much as I was hoping. In part is the book, but in part I think is my mood too… Let’s hope it would get better soon!

Same, I don’t want to go to the ocean for more than a few days, I think I’d get bored, but a day trip is just the thing. My husband is also not super into the ocean, which makes the day trip an easier decision. Maybe being from an island has made him sick of it since it was around all the time growing up? That could happen.
I find that I’m not enjoying a lot of books as much as I normally would lately, your mood can definitely have an impact. Hope we both have better luck with reading soon!

Sorry to hear you are dealing with some things, but hope all is otherwise well. At least you got some time in at the beach! Where’d you go, if you don’t mind me asking? We’re in the area as you know, so just curious to see if that nice beach in your instagram pic was anywhere close πŸ˜€

Thanks! The beach was nice. We just drove down to Ocean City for the day, went down super early got in around 830ish, stayed on the beach til about 1230 and then got some lunch and headed home around 3.
I think we used to go to Sandy Point once in a while growing up and there’s a beach on Middle River that’s a lot closer to me (I think it’s called Miami Beach) but I don’t think I’ve ever been there before. There’s a lot of water around here but I usually just head to the shore LOL. πŸ™‚

Hope all the issues you’re dealing with work out okay.
And, yes, I’m definitely mood reading too atm. I think if that’s the best way to keep on reading then so be it.

    • waytoofantasy says:

Thanks, Lynn! There’s a lot going on–my workplace is toxic so I’m looking for a job which got interrupted due to the pandemic and things at work have gotten super bad. On top of that my husband I started marriage counseling because we have some issues we need to learn how to work through. And we’re starting the process of a bathroom and kitchen remodel. It’s a lot all at once. Ah, life!
I’m sure it will all work out eventually for the better, it’s just getting through things that is stressful. πŸ™‚
      Mood reading ftw!

Sending you lots of love and good vibes! ❀ I'm also super excited about Empire of Gold arriving soon. My physical copy should get here on Friday, so I'm speeding through my current reads to prepare.

    • waytoofantasy says:

Thanks, Mary! I just started Empire of Gold and loving it so far although I do wish I’d spent some time refreshing myself on ‘the story so far’ before diving in haha. πŸ™‚
