Ultimate Book Tag

I saw this tag over on Paper Eyed Girl a whiiiile back and have been meaning to fill it out for a while and now that I’m finally going through my bookmarks…here we are! Not sure who originally created this one, if you know then feel free to tell me so I can credit appropriately!

Here we go!

Do You Get Sick While Reading In The Car?

For some reason, no–I guess I’m lucky! I used to read in the car a lot but not so much these days as I’m usually listening to music. I read pretty much all of Throne of the Crescent Moon while on a road trip–most of it in the car.

Which Authorโ€™s Writing Style Is Completely Unique To You And Why?

Terry Pratchett. It’s so hard to be both HUGELY funny and also extremely eviscerating at the same time. Also, the footnotes!

Harry Potter or Twilight? Give 3 Reasons Why.

I have a great nostalgia for both but they’re also both kind of problematic when you think about it. I think I’m going to go with Twilight — it helped to open up the YA fantasy market, vampires, and there’s nothing wrong with some escapism now and then.

Do You Carry A Book Bag? If So, Whatโ€™s In It (Besides Books)?

I do not. I generally dislike carrying bags unless I have to.

Do You Smell Your Books?

Heck yeah.

Books With or Without Illustrations?

Both? I love reading regular prose novels but I also love graphic novels, comics and manga. I also love illustrated versions of novels as well. I’m a lover of both art and reading so the more the merrier!

What Book Did You Love While Reading, But Discovered Later It Wasnโ€™t Quality Writing?

Well, getting back to that question about Harry Potter and Twilight….

Do You Have Any Funny Stories Involving Books From Your Childhood?

Not really funny? My mom used to read The Monster at the End of this Book and make all sorts of funny sound effects while reading–it was a lot of fun and one happy memory from my childhood.

What Is The Thinnest Book On Your Shelf?

Probably my copy of The Velveteen Rabbit which I’ve had since 2nd or 3rd grade. It looks like a pamphlet!

What Is the Thickest Book On Your Shelf?

the_books_of_earthsea

Gonna have to go with The Books of Earthsea. I could probably use this one as a weapon!

Do You Write As Well As Read? Do You See Yourself Being An Author In the Future?

I did National Novel Writing Month every year for about thirteen or so years. I used to write a lot more, some short stories and some longer works. I used to write fanfiction as well back in the day. I haven’t written fiction in probably about two years now? I don’t see myself being an author. I like coming up with ideas, but writing is really tedious. Maybe one day I’ll change my mind, but writing has always been more of a thing I do for fun rather than something I feel the need to do. Right now I’m enjoying being a reader. ๐Ÿ™‚

When Did You Get Into Reading?

I think I’ve always been into it? My mom used to get us weekly reader books when we were growing up and read to us as kids. My uncle used to take me to the library all the time as a small child. I have always loving reading as early as I can remember.

What Is Your Favorite Classic Book?

Hands down, Persuasion by Jane Austen. I love this one because it’s about perspective and also about life lessons, learning from mistakes, etc. I think the main characters in this one are more genuine than in any other book by her.

What Was Your Best Subject In School?

English! Also History. But I think I was fairly average in school because I was also really lazy. I could have applied myself more except I really hated homework. Don’t be like me, kids! This is how you end up with a crappy job lol.

If You Were Given A Book As A Present That You Read Before And Hated, What Would You Do?

Thank the person who gave it to me because I’m not a jerk. Then I’d probably give it away – I have so many books that they wouldn’t notice it not being around. ๐Ÿ™‚

What Is A Lesser Known Series That You Know Of That Is Similar to Harry Potter or the Hunger Games?

Hmmm, not sure? I read a lot of YA but not a lot around magic schools and The Hunger Games is a very specific sub-type of YA. I’d say if you’re looking for a more graphic/violent version of THG you can check out Battle Royale by Koushun Takami.

What Is A Bad Habit You Always Do (Besides Rambling) While writing?

Too many emdashes and commas and just…I love too much punctuation I guess haha.

What Is Your Favorite Word?

Obtuse

Are You A Nerd, Dork, or Dweeb?

I don’t really know the difference but I think I’m a nerd?

Vampires of Fairies? Why?

Like….90% of the time I’m going to say vampires unless they’re like the fae in The Cruel Prince and then *maybe* I’ll lean towards the fae. I just really love vampires.

Shapeshifters or Angels? Why?

I think Angels–I’m usually not that into shape-shifting. But it depends on the book because I thought I hated werewolves until I read Wolfsong by T.J. Klune.

Spirits or Werewolves? Why?

Well, I may or may not have read some ghost romances in my time lol. See above about the shape-shifting.

Zombies or Vampires? Why?

Vampires, why is this even a question? I like the fangs. And vampires are more sexy than zombies, sorry zombies.

Love Triangles or Forbidden Love?

I’ve talked before about love triangles. I don’t hate them but a lot of times they feel like they’re just thrown in for drama’s sake. If a love triangle becomes a poly romance then I’m all for it! Buuuuuut, I also really love forbidden love! It really depends on the book and how it’s written. Any trope can be good or bad depending on what the author does with it.

Full on Romance Books Or Action-Packed With A Few Love Scenes?

I think we all know I’m going with full on romance here lol.

And, that’s it! I’m not going to tag anyone for this one but if you want to fill it out, consider yourself tagged. ๐Ÿ™‚

I think people like to make fun of over-punctuation in general so I always feel really self-conscious about it LOL! But I still do it anyway because I’m me. You do you! ๐Ÿ™‚
