This Week in Reading: Mood Reads Once Again Dominate

Last week’s reading was a bit hit or miss for me. I managed to read about 4 short stories, 2 seasons of a sci-fi romance webtoon, 2 romance novels and one SFF novel. I mean, I read a lot, don’t get me wrong, but none of it is stuff I should be reading according to any sort of plans I’ve made. Oh well, who needs plans, right?

For some reason I’m not making much progress with The Obsidian Tower by Melissa Caruso–this despite it being one of the books I was most excited for this year. I’m enjoying it! I just…don’t feel like reading it at the moment? My brain keeps wanting to read webtoons and romance novels. Welp. Still, I’m hopeful that I can buckle down and finish this one up fairly quickly. A lot of my friends that have read it have loved it so that’s good news!

In audio I’m about halfway through In the Garden of Iden by Kage Baker and I’m really enjoying it so far. I love time travel stuff and I have to say that I love the way things are approached in this, it feels fairly unique and it’s also a lot of fun. This book is pretty short so I’m expecting to finish it up in the next couple of days and be on to another audio soon.

As for my next audio, I’ll probably finish up my current read before The Empire of Gold audiobook comes out on the 30th so I’ll probably try to fit something short in there to bridge the gap. Maybe Valor’s Choice by Tanya Huff (it’s 9 hrs and 39 mins) or maybe The Queen’s Road by R. S. Belcher (it’s 10 hrs and 20 mins). I guess we’ll see what I’m in the mood for when the time rolls around.

And if I manage to finish up my print book I’ll probably see if I’m in the mood for on of the other print books I had on my TBR for this month since I haven’t even glanced at any of those yet aside from The Obsidian Tower. So, those are my plans such as they are. What are you reading this week? Leave a note in the comments, I’d love to chat!

As a mood reader, I totally get it, and I think it’s just best to go with your flow, whatever that is right now. Really though — who needs plans?! πŸ˜‚ Possibilities are enough for me! Haha what webtoons are you reading? I keep ignoring the weekly emails I get from Webtoons with episode updates from the stories I’m subscribed to and I honestly don’t know why lol the only one I’ve kept up with is Lore Olympus because Hades and Persephone = ❀ ❀ ❀

I’m a planner, I love making plans. But apparently I also don’t like sticking to them ahahaha. πŸ™‚
Let’s see, for webtoons I’m reading a lot of popular romance ones, then I recently started two others — #muted which is adorable and then Freaking Romance that starts out as more of a romance and kind of morphs a bit into more of a sci-fi thing and I’m really loving it. Yes, Lore Olympus is my jam! Hades and Persephone are my faves. πŸ˜€

I have both of the books you mentioned on my TBR, but I think it would be some time before I would be able to get to them, sadly! But I hope you would love them and also… Plans are overrated!!

    Enjoy your reading!
I’m almost done with Night of the dragon, which I’m really enjoying, and next I will pick up Aurora Burning!

My current reading habits are also revolving around waiting for Empire of Gold. “Is this book too long? Will I be able to finish it before June 30? Is this book too short? Will I have to pick another short book if I finish it too soon?” lol

Yeah, same honestly. Like, I was so excited for The Obsidian Tower but I just can’t get into it right now, I think it’s my mood. I keep hoping once I hit a certain point then i’ll be into it and just fly right through haha.
Best of luck to us both! ❀

I totally get what you mean about being surprised about not feeling in the mood to read a book you were excited about. I should have blitzed through EDGEDANCER by Sanderson in a few sittings (it’s 264 pages, come on!) and instead I kind of just….casually eventually finished it over the course of three days. Which is still fast, but I was surprised that when I had free time I’d look at the book and go….”naaah, video games.”

      YES EXACTLY.
I keep going ‘hmm or I could read webtoons or romance novels, yeah I’ll do that’. It’s kind of annoying but at the same time I have to do what I’m in the mood to do or I’ll just be completely unhappy lol.

Yeah, I’m definitely a mood reader at the moment. I had to put the Obsidian Tower down for a couple of weeks and that seemed to work a treat for me – I ended up really enjoying it.
