This Week in Reading + r/Fantasy Virtual Con Schedule: Progress In These Strange Days

Hello everyone! Last week I actually didn’t have a terrible week in reading so, yay? I think I must finally be adjusting and I don’t know if that’s a good thing or bad thing because we’re all going to have to make another major adjustment when things get back to ‘normal’ again. So.

But first, a quick note on this week’s r/Fantasy Virtual Convention and what’s happening this week!

Now back to reading!

I managed to finish two books. Night of the Dragon by Julie Kagawa just about destroyed me and I definitely have THOUGHTS on it, probably to be posted in May as April’s schedule seems to be filling up. (It’s such a relief to still be ahead where blogging is concerned, phew.)  I also finished up The Scar by China Miéville and wound up loving it in the end even though I’m like ‘what does it all mean????’. Mark of a great book, in my opinion.

What’s on the agenda for this week? Well, with my mood being the way it is and the fact that I’m still a little busy trying to juggle several ongoing projects I’m still trying to keep things super casual.

I started the audio book of Blood Pact by Tanya Huff on Friday and am already 45% of the way into it. Really loving this one, it seems like so much of the build up from the series so far is coming to a head in this one and Vicki is dealing with some really personal challenges on all levels. I can’t wait to see how everything plays out here. I should finish this one by mid-week and move onto my next audio…

Which will be The Heart Forger by Rin Chupeco. This is the second book in The Bone Witch series. I really enjoyed the first one and after that ending I’m wondering where the story will go. If you’re looking for something for that necromancer square for book bingo–this one fits the bill.

As for print books…I may pick something from my April TBR or I may just go where my mood takes me. What are you reading this week? Leave a note in the comments, I’d love to chat!

Enjoy your reading! Glad to hear Night of the dragon was so good!
I’m currently reading A torch against the night, and will pick up Recursion on audio later today!

Thank you! Yeah, it was good! Not without my own personal gripes, but it was a great conclusion overall. 😉
Ooooh, hope you enjoy–I love that series and I really want to check out Recursion too.

I hope to start the series by Chupeco, sooner or later, and after reading all your post about Tanya Huff (and seeing that her books are always recommended in a post or another on Reddit!) I wish to read some other of her books! Sooner or later I would manage it!

    • waytoofantasy says:

The good thing about Huff is she writes in a variety of subgenres so there’s a bunch of different sorts of things by her. I want to read as much of her work as I can. 🙂
The first book of The Bone Witch is good! I’d recommend it if you’re looking for a YA that’s dark fantasy. Have a great week!

I really need to read something by Tanya Huff! Every time I see her works mentioned I make myself this promise, only to be all-too-easily distracted… (((SIGH)))
Anyway, I just (very belatedly) started reading Foundryside and I think I might have found a new favorite world in which to lose myself… 🙂

I’m a huge fan of The Scar, and if you loved it, you should also read Perdido Street Station. I just started Shorefall and I finished a rather bizarre book called The Ancestor that I’ll review later in the week😁

    • waytoofantasy says:

I will have to check that out, I have to space out my more literary type reads haha. It took me FOREVER to get through The Scar (to be fair, it was over 600 pages too…lol).
Looking forward to hearing all about The Ancestor–you had me at ‘bizarre’ 😉

I’m also finally adjusting it seems, though my house is still a disaster zone. Blood Pact sounds interesting! I just finished Pretty Things by Janelle Brown, not sure what I’ll move onto next. Probably one of my book club reads.

    • waytoofantasy says:

I’ve been kind of keeping up with things around the house–thank goodness. I’m really loving this Tanya Huff series for sure! Book club reads can be interesting, hope you find something nice to read this week. 🙂

      • Sarah says:

Thanks! I’ve been having pretty good luck lately, but I’ve also totally abandoned my ARC schedule. I think I’m 7 behind 😩. I’ll catch up someday.

      • waytoofantasy says:

It’s tough! One book I had to email the publicist back and let them know I’d check it out later in the year because it’s just too dark for me to read right now, at least the other ARCs I have are all somewhat happier reads so that helps. Mood reading is good right now.

      • Sarah says:

Hopefully the publicists are understanding. I know some people have had no problem keeping pace but my head is just all over the place. I am trying to at least stay ahead. Publishing dates slow down at this point.

I’ve heard so many positive things about the Shadow of the Fox series! I’m so glad it was on sale the other week on Kindle. I scooped it up right away and I can’t wait to give it a go 😀 Hope you have a great reading week ahead!
