January TBR Pile

wp-1578016698173.png

Well, here we are a few days into January and I’ve decided maybe I should do monthly TBR’s? We’ll see how this goes. Mainly this is just to keep me focused, however just because I’m posting it by no means I’ll actually stick to it because I’m pretty terrible at sticking to TBR lists. šŸ˜€

Books for Review

  • The Will and the Wilds by Charlie N. Holmberg – currently reading (I should have been done this by now but I got distracted binge reading romance novels, whoops!)
  • Cast in Wisdom by Michelle Sagara

These are both high priority for me as they come out soon and I have reviews due for them.

Library Books

  • Dusk or Dark or Dawn or Day by Seanan McGuire
  • Beauty by Sarah Pinborough
  • Unbound Empire by Melissa Caruso

These are books I found while browsing at the library and had hoped to read last month with a whole heap of other books that didn’t get read either. So here they are again and I need to read them so I can return them. I’m actually looking forward to all of these I just….need to make time. Realistically I have 3 more renewals left on these so I can let them go into next month if need be but I’d like to get through them.

New Releases

  • A Heart So Fierce and Broken by Brigid Kemmerer
  • A Longer Fall by Charlaine Harris

There are really only two ‘must get to’ new releases for me this month, both sequels as I’m on my ‘kinda sorta book buying ban’ this year, allowing myself to buy only sequels (at least where SFF is concerned). I’m hoping to get to these two this month, but we’ll see what happens! If not they’ll become February reads for sure.

Audiobooks

  • Steel Crow Saga by Paul Krueger – currently reading
  • The Lightning-Struck Heart by TJ Klune
  • The Rise of Magicks by Nora Roberts

I should be able to get to all of these, but I honestly have not been in much of an audio mood the last week or so, hopefully I can get back into the swing of things now that the disruption of the holidays is over.

HEA Book Club

sl-cover

  • Sorcerer’s Legacy by Janny Wurts

I’ve actually read this one before, but I’m looking forward to reading it again. I have a copy in audio so I’ll probably just listen to it again as it’s not super long and I should have time to fit it in. This is a fun, classic style fantasy novel with a good romance and some intrigue. I also really love the pacing of the narrative.

Summary

I forgot that I also have r/fantasy bingo books to read so….well…I don’t know how I’m going to work those in. AHAHAHAHAHAHA I have too many books to read. I think some things might get shuffled to next month. If so? That’s fine. Absolutely fine.

I enjoy being ambitious. Hopefully once I get through some of the books I’m obligated to read for one reason or another, I’ll be able to just concentrate things in my TBR and new release sequels. I’m hoping I get to all of these but realistically I know it will be a stretch.

Thoughts on these? What’s on your TBR for January? Leave a note in the comments, I’d love to chat!

I always do monthly TBRs because they really do keep me focused. Plus I love crossing books off my list after I read them🤣 We’re reading some of the same books, I can hardly wait to start A Longer Fall😁

Yeah, I think I’m going to try and do monthly TBR’s from now on and see how they work out–also because I have learned from my seasonal TBR’s that yes, crossing things off is SUPER satisfying haha. I’m so excited for A Longer Fall!

I’ll be honest, I had some issues with the first one (i think it was a pet peeve thing), it was sort of average for me, but I LOVED the second one. I can’t wait to get to the last in the trilogy. Hope you get a chance to check them out!

Nice haul! I just picked up the first 3 Sun Sword books, which will be my introduction to Michelle West, and I picked up the mass market paperback edition of the first book in the Nora Roberts trilogy, so looking forward to that read soon.

    • waytoofantasy says:

I think I have those Sun Sword books in my TBR pile, been meaning to read them forever, hope you enjoy! I am really loving this Nora Roberts trilogy–but then I do love a good post apocalyptic tale. šŸ™‚

My January TBR includes for backlist ARC’s, and two or three books off my home TBR. I’d really like to get to Ninth House and The Last Wish this month. Work starts back up on Monday so we’ll see how that effects my reading. Happy New Year!

  3. Realms of My Mind says:

Before I did monthly TBRs, I had books that were constantly in the top 3 of my stack that could never quiiiite make it to the top of the pile. Monthly TBRs give me some mood reading flexibility while also going “you really wanted to read this, now sit down and do it!” Definitely planning to get to The Tethered Mage this year, really looking forward to it!

    • waytoofantasy says:

Yeah, I’m feeling good about doing the monthly TBRs but this is my first one so we’ll see how it goes because I am SUCH a mood reader. But I think I’ll be in the mood for all of these so… šŸ™‚
I’m really enjoying the Caruso series, I would have finished it by now but they never published the last one in audio so now I have to work it in as a print book which I’m always inundated with it seems. Hopefully will get to it this month!

I’m looking forward to know what you think about Dusk or Dark or Dawn or Day!, I adore the author, but I had never heard of that book, so if you enjoy it I’ll add it to my TBR & hope you enjoy all these readings ā¤ļøāœØšŸ˜Š

I had never heard of it either, just happened across it in the library. It’s a shorter one so we’ll see how it goes. I do love the things I’ve read by Seanan so far. I’ll be sure to let you know what I think of it! šŸ™‚

I’m also really looking forward to getting through all my reading obligations. I’m going on a strict no ARCs binge, so we’ll see how that goes. This year I just really want to catch up on my backlog.

But your January looks really promising! I’ll be curious to see what you think of Steel Crow Saga.

  6. @lynnsbooks says:

I definitely need to have something to keep me focused, I tend to highlight my next reads each Sunday in my weekly wrap up – I don’t always stick to it but for the most part find it really helps.
