Books I Want To Read Before 2020 – A December TBR (sort of)

Wow, I can’t believe it’s going to be 2020 soon, time just flies by and the older I get the quicker it seems to go.

I debated for a while whether or not to do a December TBR. There are a few books I need to read due to commitments, but there are a lot of others I’d love to get to as well before we start the new year. Lots and lots and lots I’d love to read. So very many. (send help)

Books For Review

These are books that I’m not only super excited about, but I’ve been given copies for review purposes and I’d like to make them my priority. One of these I’ve had an embarrasingly long time….so I hope to get to it this month finally!

  • A Beginning at the End by Mike Chen – eARC
  • The Will and the Wilds by Charlie N. Holmberg – physical ARC
  • The Hidden Face by S. C. Flynn – ebook

Rewind Challenge Books

Tammy over at Books, Bones & Buffy is doing a 2019 Rewind Challenge. These are the books I have left on my list of five. Hope I can get to both of them!

  • The Waking Land by Callie Bates – physical book
  • Zoo City by Lauren Buekes – physical book
  • The Fated Sky by Mary Robinette Kowal (unless I’m able to get to it by the end of this week maybe there will be a miracle) – physical book

Other Books

This is where things go a bit off the rails. I was making a TBR stack for instagram (see below) and realized how many books I want to read in December. Spoiler:  It’s a lot more than I could ever read in a month ahahahahahahahaha why do I have so many books?

So, here are the books that I am prioritizing. Some of these aren’t pictured above because they’re digital. 🙂

  • Steel Crow Saga by Paul Krueger – audiobook
  • The Sinister Mystery of the Mesmerizing Girl by Theodora Goss – audiobook
  • Fevre Dream by George R.R. Martin – audiobook (for r/fantasy bingo)
  • The Infinite Noise by Lauren Shippen – audiobook
  • The Fever King by Victoria Lee – physical book
  • Bloodlust & Bonnets by Emily McGovern – physical book
  • Aurora Blazing by Jessie Mihalik – physical book
  • The Hanged Man by K.D. Edwards – physical book
  • Serpent & Dove by Shelby Mahurin – physical book

There are actually a bunch more I’d love to get to but this list is already getting long and most of these are print books and not audio so I really don’t know how I’m going to find the time hahaha, whoops! Still, going to try and read as many of these as I can before the end of the year. Also, I might go off list because there’s some graphic novels and manga that I’d love to get to as well. So, we’ll see what happens! As per usual! December might be a loosey goosey type month but I’m hoping to get to at least some of these.

Any thoughts on these and which I should make a priority, ones that stand out to you? Do you have reading plans for December? Leave a note in the comments, I’d love to chat!

Hahahaha, yeah my December TBR is out of control. I think I’ve whittled it from 18 to 13 but ohhh boy lol. I think Steel Crow Saga is going to be my first December read, I’ve heard amazing things and I also owe a review…oops. I think December has turned into “get your ARCs under control,” but I’m hopeful I can still squeeze in a few backlist!

Thankfully I only have a few ARCs although I did just get approved by another one today through Netgalley but that should be a quick read *crosses fingers* December always feels like a race to the finish (of what, I don’t know, I mean…the books are going to be there still LOL)

Eek I just really looked at me December list and I have 11. But this upcoming month be full of big projects for family so it is gonna be rough. I shall stay fighting to the bitter end! Arrrr!

PS excited to hear what ye think of zoo city and fevre dream cause I love them!

    • waytoofantasy says:

11 is a good amount! It’s tough around the holidays, usually lots of gatherings and such, which are good in their own way but can eat into free time. Good luck!
Hopefully I’ll get to both of them in December. 🙂

The whole premise of Zoo City sounds amazing, been looking forward to that one. Someone told me I would love Serpent and Dove and I trust their opinion so I’m really excited for that one too! 😀

I’m going to be posting my December TBR this Sunday (on Dec. 1st) and until I sit down and write it I’m not sure about everything yet. But I’m definitely in the same position as you are! I have about 5-6 December review books but on top of that I have “leftover” November books and books from my personal TBR I’d love to say I read in 2019. And don’t even get me started on MY OWN DAMN REWIND CHALLENGE OF WHICH I’VE READ ZERO BOOKS. Ha ha we all need help!

    • waytoofantasy says:

Yeah I meant to hold this post until the weekend but I was on a time crunch and had nothing else ready haha. 😀 I don’t think it will change much, based on what I think I’m going to get through the rest of this week. 🙂
I didn’t have too many review books but today I just got approved for another eARC, yikes ahaha (but should be a quick read).
Ahahaha, well at least your rewind challenge is doing me good. 🙂 There’s just too many books and so little time.

Ooh I can’t decide for me – the pressure of helping someone else prioritise is far too much, aha! You’ve got some awesome sounding books here, I really hope you can get to as many as possible. I seem to have a long list as well, but think that is just in general rather than specifically for the end of this year!

    • waytoofantasy says:

I’m hoping all of these turn out to be great reads, but we’ll see. I really don’t expect to get to all of them in December, but not to worry if I don’t because I have some things coming up for 2020 in regards to my reading plans. 🙂
I generally like long lists….gives me more options LOL.
      Thanks for stopping by!

I’ve been meaning to read Steel Crow Saga forever. I got a signed ARC at Denver Comic Con but I haven’t gotten to it yet. Why are there so many good books to read?!?!?! Good like with your TBR ish pile! I hope you love everything you read!

  6. ivysbooks says:

Great list! Yeah I’ve ended up with a long list of books for December too. The last sprint off 2019. If only we weren’t so focus on a clean slate by 2020 we wouldn’t be putting all this pressure of ourselves 😂😂 who am I kidding..

I hope you get and enjoy all the books! Happy (almost) December 😁

    • waytoofantasy says:

I definitely don’t think I’ll have a clean slate but there is the illusion of one, right? Lol! I think I’m just trying to get as many read as I can to cross them off of whatever lists I have them on and move onto the next batch. And also work on clearing out this giant TBR from my living room (it’s gotten a bit ridiculous). 🤣🤣📚📚

Thanks! I wish you luck with your December reading too!

  7. Sarah says:

I just picked out my December TBR and it’s certainly more books than I can likely read in the month. But you know what, I like having plenty of options to choose from. Good luck getting to all of these books.
