This Week in Reading: Working My Way Through Ye Olde TBR Pile

Last week I had pretty slow progress with reading but still managed to finish two books (mostly over the weekend). THE DRAGON REPUBLIC WAS SO GOOD, Y’ALL. Okay, that’s not my official review, of course, that will come later, but oh my goodness, this book nearly destroyed me for the weekend, it was so good. Luckily, I bounce back from book slayings pretty fast, phew! πŸ™‚

Saturday night my husband and I went down to DC to see a band we love play at a club. We had a fantastic time, it was great seeing Holy Ghost! again (music is so much better live, even electronic music), and I even danced (well, swaying and kind of nodding my head and bouncing a bit counts as dancing, right?). I felt mighty hip, if I do say so myself. πŸ˜‰

ANYWHO. Back to books. The rest of the weekend I spent reading, pretty much. We did go up to my friend’s comic book shop Saturday morning to pick up our comics that we haven’t picked up in since forever, whoops. But the rest of the week I didn’t get much reading time in, work was so blah that I didn’t even get much audiobook time. Welp. Here’s to a new week with new opportunities!

Last week in audio I started The Defiant Heir by Melissa Caruso. This is a series I really want to finish and I needed a relatively short audiobook to work in while waiting for my library hold. Under normal circumstances, I would have finished this last week, but work was just not good for audiobooking much last week. I’m half-way through this one and I’m sure I’ll be able to finish it up in a couple of days, three at most.

MY LIBRARY HOLD FINALLY CHECKED OUT, WOOO. Okay, so obviously after I finish The Defiant Heir, I’ll be listening to Touch by Claire North. I have a couple of friends who are die hard Claire North fans so I’ve been trying to read more of her stuff–absolutely loved The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August–I’m really looking forward to this one!

Next up is The Spec Set by Taya Okerlund. This one is a review request but it honestly looks right up my alley so I’m feeling pretty good going into it. I desperately need to catch up on review requests! Right now I’m at 6, if I could halve that, I’d probably start feeling a lot less stress. πŸ™‚

And finally, if I have time then I’ll be starting A Song For a New Day by Sarah Pinsker. This is an ARC and while I don’t have to read it quite yet, I’ll admit I’m really excited for this one so I’m jumping in asap.

I’ll probably also try and squeeze a romance novel in somewhere, because I’m me, so we’ll see how things go! Hopefully I’ll get a little bit more reading in this week than last week. What are your reading plans this week? Leave me a note in the comments, I’d love to chat!

I’m struggling to finish a book that I’ve been reading for 2 weeks now, and I’m frustrated that I couldn’t get through it over the weekend. And I really like it! It’s just long and a little fractured. Hopefully I can push past because I have so many other books I want to read😁

It’s always tough when struggling with a book, that happens to me too. Sometimes you just want to get through and be on to the next read even if you’re enjoying something. Good luck!

Sounds like a good week because of the live performance. I enjoy going such stuff too.
Reading this week Children of Time and a book on colors (forgot the name).

Ohh, Touch. I really liked that one! (disturbing as it is) Curious to hear your thoughts when you get to it. I’m…kind of in a chaotic state rn myself, alternating between five or six books and way behind on reviews. Half slump and half reading frenzy.

Live music is the best and swaying and kind of nodding your head and bouncing a bit totally counts as dancing. I don’t do much more either πŸ˜‚

I’ll definitely be posting my thoughts on it. I’ve only read Harry August by her so far and I loved that one.

I think the most books I’ve ever been in the middle of (actively) before is 4, can’t even imagine 6–good luck! Thankfully, I only have 2 reviews to write myself at the moment, but if I don’t catch up then I’m going to get behind pretty fast because, well, I read a lot. πŸ˜€

Yeah, same. Two or three reviews behind already, the mess with currently reading books is allowing me to catch up and I’m planning a mini-review roundup post for the westerns instead of the usual longform reviews, but it’s still gonna be tight once I start finishing books πŸ˜‚
