April 1st (the start of the new bingo period) has come and gone and that means a new r/Fantasy book bingo challenge has started! I talk about bingo a lot around here and though maybe some of you might like to take part or know more about it a lot of you might also be new to this challenge. So, I thought it would be good to post my yearly announcement here.
r/Fantasy Book Bingo is something I initially started on kind of a whim. Several years ago, after I’d been lurking around on reddit’s r/fantasy community for a bit, I found myself engaged in thread about book challenges. In the discussion I mentioned having done a book bingo before and then said ‘I should make a fantasy one for the subreddit’ and a couple of people were like ‘yeah, you totally should’ and thus r/Fantasy Book Bingo was born.
So, what is r/Fantasy Book Bingo? It’s a year long reading challenge with the aim of getting readers to branch out, look at books they may have otherwise passed up, discover new authors and subgenres, etc. It’s really all about broadening your horizons while having fun reading. There is a bingo card with twenty-five squares, each with its own specific requirement to tick off. If you get a bingo you can go into a prize drawing. If you fill out the entire card then you can get Reading Champion flair in the subreddit (basically a little tag beside your name that says Reading Champion).
Here is this year’s r/Fantasy Bingo Card! Thanks much to u/eriophora for the awesome upgrade in bingo card graphics this year. ❤
This is my SEVENTH year running the challenge (geez! I can’t believe how time flies!). I’m not planning on actively participating this year, however I might still tick off all the squares by accident–who knows? (I say that and yet I’m already thinking about books I could read that would count for squares….). So, what do you think about this challenge? Are you participating this year? Leave a note in the comments, I’d love to chat!
This is a neat challenge! I would’ve done this one, but my hands are pretty full this year. I’m definitely going to keep this one in mind for next year. 😉
Thanks! We try to make it fun and inclusive. I don’t know if I’ll be doing it myself or not this year but I do always try to fill it in with what I’ve read and see how many I can cross off. 🙂
I have never done a bingo challenge but maybe this will be the year? This looks like its got some challenging prompts, so it could be a lot of fun😁
These challenges can be fun! I know most people try to do the whole card but you really only have to get a bingo and call it a day. But we’re all overachievers in the book community here LOL. If you try it I hope you have fun with it.
I’m going to do this Challenge! I’ve been interested in doing one, so why not this one?!
Oh, I hope you have fun with it!
i saw this bingo card on the r/fantasy subreddit! these are such cool prompts, if i weren’t such a mood reader i’d 10/10 participate!
You can always mood read and then just see if you happen to get a bingo anywhere later. Remember, you don’t have to fill out all the squares, only five in a row! 🙂
That’s true! I might have to give it a shot then!
I love seeing bingo challenge cards! I tend to do them at the of the year in “reverse” though, see how many squares I can mark off with the books I’ve read over the course of the year, just to add that element of “chance” like real bingo 😀
Oh that’s usually how I fill them out too LOL, it’s just easier that way and less pressure
Good luck with your challenge!! I love your dedication!
Thanks! Well, I may only low-key participate this year, we’ll see. I’m trying to cut back on participating in challenges but I do love running this one. 🙂
I’ve stopped doing book bingos as they just don’t fit my reading style, but I still love this idea and seeing all the squares you come up with! Such a great way to encourage people to look into different corners of fantasy!
Thanks! Well most people forget that to ‘win’ this one you only need to get a single bingo so just five squares in a row. You might even get a bingo without even trying, I know I usually do every year LOL. 😉
I’ve seen this challange aroun for last year, but I was a bit late to still join. I’m definitely trying to get a bingo this time around 🙂
Good luck! Hope you have fun with it. 🙂
Lol at cat squasher.
I might do it. More likely that I keep the card and then see how many books I read fit the category at the end of the year. I’d love to read a cat squasher though 🙂
Yeah, we had fun naming that square LOL.
Believe it or not that’s how I usually do it. haha
That looks fantastic!! I’m definitely joining 😀
I hope you have fun with it!
Thank you!!
This looks so fun! I think I’m on board! 🙂
Hope you have fun with it!
