This Week in Reading: Is My Reading Spark Back?

Hi everyone! Despite feeling very ‘meh’ still, I managed to get a lot of reading in. I finished up FOUR books over the past week. Of course, two of them I was almost finished going into the week so it’s not quite as impressive as it sounds, but I’ll take it anyway. I guess I’ve been in a ‘let me just read and forget about everything else’ type of mood over the last week. Which is good for my reading but bad for every other obligation I have in life. I’ll be happy to strike a balance again but in the meantime–books! Anywho. I finished four books–two adult fantasy, one ya fantasy and one ya historical romance retelling of Little Women. All in all a productive week in reading if nothing else.

This is the last week of the month and I’m not sure what I’m in the mood for. I probably should concentrate on the last book I have listed on my January TBR that I haven’t yet gotten to…but as much as I love Becky Chambers, am I in the mood for that right now? Ah mood reading. It’s great! Except for when you can’t figure out what exactly you’re in the mood for.

Turns out when you can’t figure out what mood you’re in–just work on your list. So that’s what I’m doing. I’m excited for The Galaxy, and the Ground Within. I’m a HUGE fan of Becky Chambers’ work and a little bit scared because I love each book more than the last and what if that ends at some point? I’m bound to be disappointed eventually. Maybe that’s what’s causing my hesitation to pick this one up despite my excitement for it. Hmmm. Anyway, I’ll try my hand at this one this week and if I decide I’m not in the mood for it then I’ll put it down and try something else, so I guess we’ll see how it goes!

Next up, in audio, I’m getting a head start on my February TBR and diving into A Sky Beyond the Storm by Sabaa Tahir. I’ve had a lot of fun with this series over the years and I can’t wait to see how it concludes. The previous book left off on a huge cliffhanger and I’m all anticipation over here. The audio for this is 17 hours long and it took me three weeks to read my last audio book which was several hours shorter sooooooooo, I’m thinking I’ll finish this one up by the end of next month at my current rate. The only bad thing about my new extremely short commute! It’s probably a good thing I’m getting a jump start on this one.

Not sure if I’ll get to anything else this week but you never know. My mood could turn on me or I might get through the Chambers’ book really fast. Only time will tell. What are your reading plans this week? Leave a note in the comments, I’d love to chat!

This: ‘‘let me just read and forget about everything else’ type of mood’ is a definitely mood 😂 I’m sorta in that same headspace right now too. Also, totes agree that it sucks being a mood reader and not knowing what mood you’re in 🙃 But it sounds like you’ve got a good plan to tackle books! I hope you enjoy A Sky Beyond the Storm and I’d be keen to hear your thoughts on it! I think I need to re-read the series or at least the last book before moving onto the final cos my memory… She bad 🤣 Happy reading!

Yeah, sometimes you just need to read to escape from everything for a bit. ❤
I'm hoping that my plan works out! I've been busy today so not much time to read, hopefully the rest of the week will work out. 🙂
So far I'm loving A Sky Beyond the Storm–it's great to be back in this world. (Totally feel you on the memory thing hahahaha–book series really need to start having 'previously on' summaries!)

Wow, congrats Lisa! It helps when you’re enjoying your books, right? I’ve been stuck on a couple of books I just wasn’t enjoying, but I just started Winter’s Orbit and I’m already hooked!

Glad you had a good reading week and it definitely seems like your reading spark is back. I’ve been in a mood to just read anything and everything lately it seems. I finished 3 books this week and hopefully will be able to finish the last 3 books on my TBR this month. You can check out my post talking about all these books in the link below if you’re interested.

Yeah, I really want to read everything lately too but then I just don’t have time so I have to prioritize. It also results in me not knowing exactly what I want to read because…I want to read everything LOL. I’m all over the place–but at least I’m reading! 🙂
I hope you have a fantastic week, Misty! You’ve been making so much reading progress–that’s fantastic!

That mood hit me a couple times this month: just tune out everything and read.
I was reading American Spy by Lauren Wilkinson, but I think I’mma DNF it for now because I don’t feel like reading a novel this week and maybe pick up a comic book instead.

Yeah, sometimes my depression leaves me unable to read and sometimes it’s like ‘feed me all the books’. That’s the thing that’s happening with me now I guess.

That sounds like a good plan! Sometimes you just have to go where your mood takes you. Have a great week!

I was having the hardest time this week deciding what I felt like reading too. Then, I accidentally, very lightly, brushed my fingertip on my kindle and it chose a book for me. So now I’m reading Kill the Farm Boy by Kevin Hearne and Delilah S. Dawson.

A Sky Beyond the Storm has been sitting on my TBR cart just staring at me for literal weeks now, and I keep meaning to pick it up and then reading something else instead. It’s now been joined by two other preorders, too, and given that March is slowly approaching, and I’ve got nearly ten books preordered for that chaos, I really need to read this soon!

    • waytoofantasy says:

I would have read it sooner but I just have so much of a backlog with audio now that my commute is so short.
Oh wow, that’s a lot of pre-orders! Good luck with that, Mary. I wish you lots of reading like the wind lol. 🙂

I seem to have a problem with Book 4 of YA quartets! I never finished the Red Queen series, and now I can’t quite motivate myself to finish the Ember in the Ashes series either. But congrats on your reading spark returning!
