Saw this tag over at Lynn’s Book Blog a while back and thought it would be fun to fill out so here we are. Not sure who originally created this one but full credit to them!
FORMAT SNOB You can only choose 1 format in which to read books for the rest of your life. Which one do you choose: physical books, eBooks, or audiobooks?
I think right now that would have to be ebooks because that’s what I read the most of right now. I don’t know what that would mean for all the unread physical books in my house though, I’d feel bad for them. Hmm, maybe physical books then just so I could get through my TBR? It’s a tough choice! I think if I only read physical I’d read less because I sneak in reading time a lot with ebooks….so maybe ebooks. Okay, let’s go with ebooks.
ADAPTATION SNOB: Do you always read the book before watching the film/ TV show?
Nope! In fact, I’ve been blasting my way through The Expanse tv show despite having only read book one. I think that I’m pretty good at separating books from their adaptations so I sometimes read before I watch and sometimes watch before I read. Sometimes I’ll watch something and figure out it’s an adaptation later and then read the book. I don’t really feel like one way is better over the other.
SHIP SNOB Would you date or marry a non-reader?
Yes, I would and I have! My husband does read but maybe only 4-10 books a year depending. He likes comics though and he’s all about RPG games. We find we both enjoy storytelling, just in different ways so we still have things to bond over. 🙂
GENRE SNOB You have to ditch one genre – never to be read again for the rest of your life. Which one do you ditch?
Is non-fiction a genre? How about classics, is classics a genre? Can John Steinbeck be his own genre? 😉
Honestly, I don’t know that I’d ditch a genre at all. I do like reading a variety of things even if MOST of what I read is SFF. Maybe if we’re including sub-genres I’d be happy never reading Lit-RPG again. Sorry Lit-RPG folks, but it’s just not something I enjoy.
COMMUNITY SNOB Which genre do you think receives the most snobbery from the bookish community?
Hmmmm, I think it depends what circles you run in. Actually years ago I stopped hanging around on r/books on reddit because a lot of people looked down on fantasy novels. And then on r/fantasy we used to have a lot of snobbery towards romance. But now I run an HEA club there so there’s a place for us there. I think YA, while not a genre, also gets a fair bit of snobbery.
SNOBBERY RECIPIENT Have you ever been snubbed for something that you have been reading or for reading in general?
Yes. I was once reading a Malazan book and it fell out of my pocket when at an acquaintances for board game night and he made a comment when I said it was a fantasy novel about ‘what, like Twilight?’ and then thought that was the most hilarious thing ever. First off, stop being a sexist douchebag and assuming the only thing I’d read would be Twilight. Secondly, I do happen to like Twilight so jokes on him. Anyway, there will always be some jerks out there–I try not to take what they say to heart (although I also sometimes have my revenge, because I’m me).
That’s it for this tag! I’m not going to tag anyone this time around but if you feel like filling this out, consider yourself tagged!
