A Desolation Called Peace is the spectacular space opera sequel to Arkady Martine’s genre-reinventing Hugo and Nebula finalist debut, A Memory Called Empire.
An alien armada lurks on the edges of Teixcalaanli space. No one can communicate with it, no one can destroy it, and Fleet Captain Nine Hibiscus is running out of options.
In a desperate attempt at diplomacy with the mysterious invaders, the fleet captain has sent for a diplomatic envoy. Now Mahit Dzmare and Three Seagrass—still reeling from the recent upheaval in the Empire—face the impossible task of trying to communicate with a hostile entity.
Whether they succeed or fail could change the fate of Teixcalaan forever.
I liked A Memory Called Empire quite a bit and I’m really looking forward to seeing how the story continues in this sequel. Plus, I’m all in favor of space opera right now–it’s really becoming one of my favorite subgenres of SFF. 🙂 A Desolation Called Peace is expected March 2nd, 2021 from Tor Books.
I’ve heard such good things about the first book, but it never fit into my schedule. I hope you get the chance to read this sequel😁
I liked the first one, I’m hoping maybe for a reread at some point before I read the sequel. Thanks, Tammy!
Hmm, March, eh? Wonder if I can squeeze in a long-delayed read of A Memory Called Empire before then.
Maybe! I want to try and reread it before the sequel comes out. Or at least before I read the sequel. 🙂
I really need to start this series, it sounds very good!

The first one was really interesting!
Aw, I really wish I read the first one when I had the chance!
There’s still time! Books don’t have an expiration date, thankfully. 🙂
I’m very excited to read as well, I have already heard good things about A Desolation Called Peace on Twitter! 😀
Space opera is also on of my favorite subgenre. 🙂
Yeah, I’ve seen the hype beginning and it’s starting to get me more excited! Space opera is probably my favorite sci-fi genre (maybe behind dystopian/post apocalyptic).
Yeah, what Mogsy said. I’m kicking myself now but I know at the back of my mind I just won’t catch up with this series now – although, never say never is my motto.
Lynn 😀
One day you might get time to check it out, you never know. 🙂
I have yet to start this series but, sooner or later, I would do it!!
I liked the first one, I can definitely see why it won the awards, I’m hoping the second one will blow me out of the water. 🙂
I got an eARC and I SCREAMED. So excited to get to this one!
LOL, that’s awesome! Can’t wait to see what you think of it. 🙂
