Edited By is a thoroughgoing attempt to reflect both the quality and infinite variety of the fiction Ellen Datlow has championed in the course of her career. The stories gathered here come from all over the literary map. There are SF, fantasy, and horror stories, often in unique combinations. There are household names among the contributors, such as Neil Gaiman, whose screenplay/story “Eaten (Scenes from a Moving Picture)” is a chilling account of eater and eaten, predator and prey. There are newer, lesser known figures as well, among them Nathan Ballingrud, whose “Monsters of Heaven” is an achingly beautiful story of grief, loss, and strange encounters. And there are many award-winning writers included, among them Elizabeth Hand, Kelly Link, Lucius Shepard, Ted Chiang, and Jeffrey Ford, to name just a few. Their contributions are among the many highlights of this book.
Edited By is one of those rare books that offers intense pleasure and intellectual excitement on every page. There are no bad stories here, and there is no lazy or indifferent writing. Some of the finest imaginative fiction of modern times awaits within the covers of this magisterial book. This one really does belong on the permanent shelf. Don’t let it pass you by.
I’ve read many anthologies edited by Datlow over the years and I always end up loving the stuff she puts out. I’ve discovered a lot of authors thanks to her work and I’m really interested in this one! I think it must be a collector’s item for any fan of Datlow’s work. Edited By is expected September 30th, 2020 by Subterranean Press.
This really does sound like a special anthology! I’m looking forward to seeing which other names and stories go into it! 😀
Ellen Datlow is one of the most awarded editors for a reason, I love her anthologies!
I really like this idea. We see so many ‘best of’ collections from authors, but I love seeing an editor’s take, especially when it’s someone like Datlow who has always compiled amazing anthologies.
Yes, exactly! And I’m a huge fan of Datlow as is so this was a given for me. 🙂
I love her anthologies too, and I have my eye on this. Plus she interacted with me on Twitter recently over a book I reviewed that she had edited. That was a fantastic moment for me!
A long time ago before this was a review blog (but I sometimes still did reviews) I reviewed an old anthology of hers and she came by and left a comment and also shared my post on twitter and facebook and I’ll be honest it was the most ‘senpai noticed me!’ moment I’ve ever had LOL. I was also lucky enough to meet her in person at the WFC a couple of years ago and got one of my anthologies signed by her, she was awesome. 🙂
I’m not familiar with the author but the book sounds really good!
Her anthologies are great!
I’m not really into anthologies, but I know Datlow is the queen of them. I hope you’ll enjoy 🙂
She really is haha. Thanks!
ooh, this sounds so goood?! i’ll have to look into Datlow’s work!
I have really loved all the anthologies I’ve read that have been put together by her. 🙂
Okay wow!! The title and the cover are sooo catchy!! 😍😍
I’m really looking forward to it. 🙂
What Mogsy said. Hope you love it.
Lynn 😀
Thanks, Lynn! I hope so too. 🙂
