TBR Shelf Cleanup #29

Time for another round up of books from my TBR to go through! Each week I’ll be going over a selection from my physical unread books and deciding what to keep and what to purge. There will be a third option–undecided–which I might ask for your input on why you think I should keep or purge that title from my list. You can also check out my full TBR pile here.

Black Unicorn by Terry Brooks

Black Unicorn

A year had passed since Ben Holiday bought the Magic Kingdom from the wizard, Meeks. But unbeknownst to him, he has been the victim of a trap by Meeks, who has succeeded in stealing the Paladin and appropriating his face. Suddenly none of Ben’s friends know him, but all of his enemies do. He must win it all back again–only this time on his own!

I don’t even know what this is or why I have it. PURGE

Wounded Land by Stephen R. Donaldson

Wounded Land

Four thousand years have passed since Covenant first freed the Land from the devastating grip of Lord Foul and his minions. But he is back, and Convenant, armed with his stunning white gold magic, must battle the evil forces and his own despair…

This is the second series of Thomas Covenant books and I’m so not interested in these anymore. PURGE

White Tiger by Kylie Chan

White Tiger

A young woman accepts a position as nanny to the young daughter of a handsome, wealthy, and mysterious Chinese businessman— only to discover her new employer is really a god and every foul demon in creation is out to destroy him!

This looks like a fun series, I have the first two, I still have interest in checking these out at some point. KEEP

Zero Sum Game by S. L. Huang

Zero Sum Game

Cas Russell is good at math. Scary good. The vector calculus blazing through her head lets her smash through armed men twice her size and dodge every bullet in a gunfight, and she’ll take any job for the right price.

As far as Cas knows, she’s the only person around with a superpower…until she discovers someone with a power even more dangerous than her own. Someone who can reach directly into people’s minds and twist their brains into Moebius strips. Someone intent on becoming the world’s puppet master.

Cas should run, like she usually does, but for once she’s involved. There’s only one problem…
She doesn’t know which of her thoughts are her own anymore.

This is a ‘more recent’ add to the TBR and I definitely want to hold on to this one. I need to read faster so I can get through all these books! KEEP

The Fox by Sherwood Smith

The FoxAttending the King’s Military Academy had been Inda’s greatest dream. But Academy reality is far from what he’d imagined-for by defending the second son of the king, Inda becomes embroiled in a vicious political struggle among the nobility that he has no hope of winning.
But these petty squabbles are only a faint shadow of what is to come. His future holds betrayals he cannot even imagine, and before growing to manhood, his fate will sever him from all he holds dear, thrusting him away from friends, family, and the life he thought he’d been meant to live, onto the perilous decks of pirate ships and beyond…

I read Inda several years ago and really loved it but it’s such a long book that I needed to take a break before picking up The Fox. That break just…kept going. Still want to read this and the other sequels though! KEEP

That’s all for now! This brings my total count to:

Keep Purge Undecided
201 71 34

A few more to add to the purge pile. Maybe I’ll get up to 100 purges at this point, that would be something. What do you think about my choices here? Anything you’d do differently? Leave a note in the comments, I’d love to chat!

I really want to read Zero Sum Game too. I just checked my Libib catalog, since we’re done cataloging the H’s, and I’m sad I don’t own a copy😥

I actually read that Terry Brooks book, though I’m completely mystified why you have it without the first book. I remember liking it at the time, but that blurb makes zero sense w/o knowing anything about the first.

And I’m shocked you had any Thomas Covenant 😀

Sometimes I just pick up things! Like when I used to go to The Book Thing if they had books in the SFF section and I knew the author I’d just pick it up because, free. I had Thomas Covenant because one of my friends loves that series but now I just think it’s probably not for me.

Black Unicorn does seem a bit…meh! xD xD GLAD YOU PURGED IT!! Good riddance! I need to do some cleaning too – I have started, inspired by your posts! 😉 ❤ ❤ ❤

Zero Sum Game is also on my TBR, but it’s actually on my Kindle, so I think that makes it harder, since it’s so much easier to forget that it’s there. xD I’m glad you chose to keep it. 😀 Hopefully, one of us can get to it some day. xD

Hah! I know what you mean about the kindle. Although because it’s easier to sneak reading in on my phone (I have the kindle app) I find that I’m reading more ebooks these days and ignoring my physical TBR. That’s a problem because I have a huge amount of books in my physical TBR haha. Whoops.
