This Week in Reading: A Good Week!

I had a pretty good week in reading last week. I finished 2 books, 1 Romance and 1 SFF novel. I LOVED Written in Red by Anne Bishop and wound up reading it in about 4 days despite it being about 500 pages and reading another book in between. I loved it so much that I ordered the next two books in the series. So. I’ll have a review for that one coming up near the end of the month.

I’m actually making pretty good progress on the other books I’ve been reading, now that I find myself ‘in the mood’ once again. I’m hoping I can get back to only being in the middle of 2-3 books soon instead of 5-6. šŸ˜‰

Friday I felt pretty ‘meh’ so I called out of work, did a little bit of blogging stuff, and had a general self-care day. I planned to get more reading done but I ended up organizing my old embroidery threads (that I’ve had since the 90’s and the days of friendship bracelets) and then going to the local drive-in theater with my husband. Saturday I slept most of the day and then Sunday was pretty quiet, working on my embroidery stuff and listening to an audiobook. Overall, a pretty good weekend. šŸ™‚

I’m still working on The Empire of Gold by S. A. Chakraborty–I’m really loving it! Although I’m at a point in the book when major stuff is happening and I’m so scared for the characters and how things are going to end up. Am I going to cry at the end of this one? Only time will tell. šŸ™‚Ā  I’m hoping to finish this one up by end of day Monday since I only have 4 hours left but it may go in to Tuesday.

In print, I’m back to reading The Obsidian Tower by Melissa Caruso and I’m finally into it. That break seems to be just what I needed. I’m over a third into the book so I should be able to finish this one up by the end of the week (finally!).

Next up in audio I’ll probably dive into Unravel the Dusk by Elizabeth Lim. I’m excited to see how this duology ends (as well as cross another series off my list as finished, yay!). This one isn’t that long (a little over eight hours I think?) so I think I may even be able to finish this one up this week as well. We’ll see!

If (no, Lisa! *WHEN*) I finish The Obsidian Tower I will probably be concentrating on finishing up the short story collection from Sarah Pinsker. I think I’ve got three left. Once I knock these two out then I’ll probably reward myself by reading more of The Others series by Anne Bishop. Hopefully I can get a lot of reading in because I really want to get back to The Others–I’m hooked! šŸ™‚ What are you reading this week? Leave a note in the comments, I’d love to chat!

I bought a copy of Written in Red years ago and STILL haven’t read it, but you’ve reminded me I need to fit it in at some point.😁

I honestly went to bed last night, around 1AM, after two straight hours of reading, having a chat with myself over the fact that probably at least ONE Qahtani sibling was going to die and who would make me cry the most. Who knows, maybe they’ll all survive, but if I was Chakraborty, I’d definitely kill one of them because WOW THAT WOULD HURT and also just make sense story-wise, so I’m preparing myself for all possibilities right now even if 1AM chats in the dark are very odd, haha.

LOL no, I totally get it, I have the same convos with myself lol. I finished it. I’m not going to say anything. But I felt really satisfied with how everything wrapped up. šŸ™‚

OKAY SAME. I just finished it last night, well past 1AM again, listening to the Witcher soundtrack in the background, because if we’re gonna go that hard for a series finale, may as well go all the way. I’m also VERY satisfied with the ending. Not at all what I thought was going to happen, given what’s happened previously, but it was pretty damn amazing.

Yeah, I was a bit surprised to? Like….I thought Very Bad Things would happen and I wasn’t at all sure how she was going to wrap things up for my babies but….I’m really happy with how she worked it out. Also I had to LOLOLOL forever at the end because that was such a long denouement! I didn’t mind all the wrap up at all, it’s just that books usually don’t go that route so I thought it was interesting that she was able to do that.

SAME! I was convinced the world was just going to implode. I mean, it did, but also not quite? And the longest! I loved it so much! I wish every book had a wrap-up like that, haha.
