Hello and welcome to the latter half of 2020, let’s see how this goes. I’m kind of expecting aliens (oh wait that already happened) or dinosaurs to come back (oh wait that’s in the works) or maybe a giant meteor at this point. The new slogan is ‘2020:ย Anything Could Happen. Anything.’.
Anywho. Last month I only had three books on my TBR and still didn’t manage to finish any of them during the month so I contemplated not doing a TBR for this month but I would still like to highlight some of the books I’m thinking about reading soon so here we are. Not going to feel the pressure to get all of these read this month if I can’t do it–life is too short to stress out over made up goals that don’t really mean anything. That being said I believe I will definitely manage two of them for various reasons listed below. ๐
- Written in Red by Anne Bishop. I feel like this book has been in my TBR for hot minute and people keep telling me how good it is and it sounds like it’s right up my alley–I love UF and I love Anne Bishop so this should be the perfect combo for me. I’m reading this as a buddy read with Lynn from Lynn’s Books so extra excited for this one!
- Leviathan Wakes by James S. A. Corey. I got this audiobook a while back when there was a sale and also because I’d been wanting to try out more space opera/science fiction and this series is popular! I also picked up books 2 and 3 during audible sales so now I really need to get started. This is also one of my picks for 2020 bingo reading! Lots of reasons for me to get moving on this one.
- The Empire of Gold by S. A. Chakraborty. This is one of my MOST anticipated books of the year and I’m so excited to get to it. Can’t wait to see how this epic series concludes but if it’s anything like the first two books then I expect lots of gasping in shock and having to to hold on to my seat. I hope it’s exciting because I really need a book that feels like a roller coaster right now! This is not on my 20 books of Summer, not is a bingo read, but it will go towards my ‘finish off some series’ goal so there’s that. ๐
And that’s all I’m officially putting on my TBR for this month. I still have the list of 20 Books of Summer I’m working through as well as my r/fantasy book bingo list so maybe some of those will make an appearance or maybe it will be all mood reading all the time. We’ll see where July takes me. What are your reading plans for this month? Leave a note in the comments, I’d love to chat!
Can’t wait for Written in Red. It’s a series I’ve wanted to read for so long and this will give me the push (I shouldn’t but do) need. ๐
Empire of Gold is one of my forthcoming books. I was really surprised to find I was granted a wish on NG so need to pick it up very soon.

I’m excited for it too! I’ve had this in my TBR pile for far too long. Looking forward to comparing notes with you on it. ๐
Just started Empire of Gold and I probably should have taken a refresher or a summary on the last book haha, but it’s going good so far. Hope you get to check it out soon.
Iโve seen Empire of Gold around and it looks amazing. But I havenโt heard of Levithian Wakes – that sounds right up my street, will have to check that out. Good luck with any you do get read and I hope theyโre good. No pressure sounds like the best way to go.
It’s the first book of The Expanse. I haven’t watched the show based on the books but I’ve been excited to try some more science fiction as I feel like I veer more into fantasy most days. ๐
Thanks! I’m hoping taking the pressure off will help me get out of my weird reading funk.
My monthly TBR is more of a “menu,” lol. Pick and choose and read as much as I can knowing I won’t be able to read everything. I’d love to read Written in Red too, in fact I think I bought a copy at some point!
Love the menu approach! I think if I put something on a list I would feel obligated somehow. I’ve try not to feel bad when I don’t complete a list but it never works for me haha. I think I have a personal issue I need to work on. ๐
You should join us! I think the plan is to start this weekend (possibly Sunday). Let me know if you want in, I can add you to our twitter chat. ๐
I hope you have a great reading month! I hope to read The kingdom of Copper this month!

Good luck on your reading plans!! I’m trying not to predict anything about the rest of the year since 2020 is being an ass so far.
2020 is the worst for trying to make plans an stick to them.
Good luck with your reading!! I’m hoping to start the City of Brass series sometime soon๐
Thanks, Kaya! I hope you enjoy this series if you check it out, I’ve loved it so far. ๐
As an enthusiastic (read: “rabid” – LOL) fan of the Expanse series, I’m eager to read your review of the start of this space opera saga that, for me, is currently the best in the genre.
Happy reading!!!! ๐
I have high hopes for it because it’s so popular and I’ve been dying to read more space opera lately. ๐
Yes, join The Others train! It’s such a comfort series for me.
I’m so excited to be starting it. ๐
I really really hope you would read Written in Red and I really really really really hope you would love it!
Thanks! I hope I love it too. I have a feeling I will because I used to be a fan of this author from a long time ago. โค
