Can’t-Wait Wednesday: The Empire of Gold by S.A. Chakraborty

Can’t-Wait Wednesday, aka Waiting on Wednesday, is a weekly meme originating from Jill at Breaking the Spine and now hosted by Wishful Endings. If you’re interested in participating, stop by Wishful Endings to link up your posts.

teog-coverDaevabad has fallen.

After a brutal conquest stripped the city of its magic, Nahid leader Banu Manizheh and her resurrected commander, Dara, must try to repair their fraying alliance and stabilize a fractious, warring people.

But the bloodletting and loss of his beloved Nahri have unleashed the worst demons of Dara’s dark past. To vanquish them, he must face some ugly truths about his history and put himself at the mercy of those he once considered enemies.

Having narrowly escaped their murderous families and Daevabad’s deadly politics, Nahri and Ali, now safe in Cairo, face difficult choices of their own. While Nahri finds peace in the old rhythms and familiar comforts of her human home, she is haunted by the knowledge that the loved ones she left behind and the people who considered her a savior are at the mercy of a new tyrant. Ali, too, cannot help but look back, and is determined to return to rescue his city and the family that remains. Seeking support in his mother’s homeland, he discovers that his connection to the marid goes far deeper than expected and threatens not only his relationship with Nahri, but his very faith.

As peace grows more elusive and old players return, Nahri, Ali, and Dara come to understand that in order to remake the world, they may need to fight those they once loved . . . and take a stand for those they once hurt.

This is the final book in the Daevabad Trilogy and I CAN NOT WAIT. So excited. This has quickly become one of my favorite series and I just don’t know what I’m going to do with myself when it’s over. The Empire of Gold is expected February 20th, 2020 from Harper Voyager.

These books sound so good! If I didn’t think they sounded interesting, I would want them because of the covers!
I think I will read the series after this one is released, just so I can read them all at once!

I’ll be honest- I struggled with the first book and didn’t continue, but it sounds like it took some exciting turns in the next book! Maybe worth revisiting?

I was going to rate the first one a solid 3 stars but then I loved the build up at the end so much it tipped it into a 5 star for me (I still had issues with things earlier in the book though). Book two was a solid 5 stars for me. Everything I liked about the end continues in that one and also the issues I had with book 1 were cleared up. Maybe worth considering continuing if you at least enjoyed the end of book 1.

I do think I liked the end? But I don’t remember very well. I just know I felt like the book had dragged on too long at that point and was ready to be done. That purveying attitude might have clouded my judgement of the ending.

Could be. I think the first one had issues with pacing and also I didn’t really enjoy one of the character POV’s at all which made those sections uninteresting to me. But all of that changed for me in the 2nd book. If you do try it, I hope you like it. 🙂
