The Sunday Post #2

thesundaypost

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated Reviewer. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

Random News And Goings-On

This past week has been really busy. Work has been crazy and stressful so I haven’t had any free time to sneak in catching up on blog things on the down low, womp womp, so now I feel like I’m slightly behind on things (even though I’m not–yet).

On Tuesday night my husband and I went to see Spiderman: Far From Home. Had a lot of fun, continue to love the new Spiderman and the way they do his solo films. It’s such a fun combo of teen rom-com/coming of age and superhero genres and I love the mash-up.

We did get an extra day off on Thursday for the 4th of July holiday, but half the day was spent out with family and friends, and then Saturday we went to another cook-out / pool party / fireworks extravaganza with family. So, things have been a bit of a whirlwind this week to say the least. The weekend isn’t over yet, though, so we’ll see how much reading I can squeeze in between today and tomorrow. 🙂

New Book Arrivals at Way Too Fantasy

Physical Books

IMG_-ne429k

Only one new physical book again this week (I’ve been trying to be good, I swear!). This one was a surprise in the mail, thanks so much to the publisher for sending this out to me! I’ve been excited for this one so it was such a nice treat showing up unannounced. 🙂 Trying to think where I can squeeze this in since my summer reading plans are so tight, might have to have a reading marathon at some point.

Audiobooks

Picked up another two audiobooks this week. Crown of Feathers by Nicki Pau Preto I already have a physical copy of, but I think I’m going to listen to it in audio so I can expedite getting through my summer tbr pile (it’s all about maximizing efficiency or something like that). I somehow totally forgot the audobook of Part-Time Gods by Rachel Aaron was coming out this week! I love her books, they’re fun and fast paced with characters you just want to root for. I can’t wait to dive into this one and even though it’s not on my official summer reading list, I think I have plenty of room for it. 🙂

Ebooks

A couple of new ones for the pile.

I picked up The Mammoth Book of Vampire Stories by Women because it was on sale and sure, I can use this for bingo. Um…some of these may be erotic stories and I’m okay with that. 😀

I also picked up The Care and Feeding of Stray Vampires by Molly Hart because I saw someone mention this or they may have recced it to me, my memory is fuzzy (it’s been a long week!).

From another sale I picked up A Study in Honor by Claire O’Dell. The concept of this one seems interesting and it was only $1.99 so worth checking out at that price. 🙂

That’s it for this week. See? I’ve been fairly good in my restraint! (Okay there may have been a couple of things I pre-ordered but I’m not counting those until they come in.)

Posts to Check Out from the Book Blogging Community

So far I have NOT been better about blog hopping on a daily basis but…this week has been kind of tough with lots of stuff going on (see above) and I’m hoping I can get into more of a regular routine again soon. Nonetheless, here are some awesome posts I’ve come across in the past week.

Goddess in the Stacks has a fantastic overview of The Conqueror’s Saga trilogy by Kiersten White. This series sounds amazing, thanks for bringing it to my attention! Think I’m going to have to dive into this one. Epic Alternate History? Yes, please.

Kaya @ A Fictional Bookworm had an interesting post broaching the topic Should Book ‘Influencers’ Be Paid For Their Work?. Great topic, and one that gives some food for thought.

Kal @ Reader Voracious has her list of 12 Anticipated Reads for July. I love Kal’s lists since we overlap a bit in taste and I always find new things to add to my TBR pile. 😀

Dina @ SFF Book Reviews has an update for the Retellings Challenge bingo she’s participating in. I LOVE the idea of this challenge because 1) I love retellings and 2) I love book bingos. If I weren’t already involved in a bunch of challenges I probably would have signed up for this. Ah, well, maybe next year!

The Orangutan Librarian has a great post of book recs based on Harry Potter houses. I LOVE THIS. So much fun. I consider myself a slytherpuff, I don’t care what any quizes say, haha. 😀

Kathy @ Pages Below the Vaulted Sky had a really awesome Best of 2018 post with some amazing fanart. I am in awe of her talent. ❤

Keikii @ Keikii Eats Books is talking about one of my favorite subjects: Vampires, and the tropes that go with them. She has lots of great things to say. Love it!

That’s my news for this week! How has your week been? Leave a note in the comments, I’d love to chat. 🙂

I’ve been hearing good things about Spiderman! Glad to hear it was good. And sounds like you’re having a great 4th!

    Love the look of Vampires!

And thanks for the links- I need to go check out that one on vampires and tropes. Have a great week!

I got a surprise copy of Spin the Dawn earlier in the week too, and coincidentally I had just started listening to my audio review copy, so I got to switch back and forth and finished real quick. I really enjoyed it! There were a couple distinct parts to it, almost like two different books, and that kept things interesting.

How exciting that you got a surprise copy of Spin the Dawn, I hope you enjoy the book as much as all of my friends have so far! Thanks so much for linking to my July Releases post, we definitely do have VERY similar reading tastes. Happy reading this week!

GAH I’m so late to this, but TYSM for the feature!!!! ❤ ❤ And I'm really excited for Spin the Dawn! We don't really get female fantasy characters with traditionally "feminine" occupations/skills, so it's always super exciting when I do come across one.

      You’re welcome!
Also yes, I didn’t think of that but you’re absolutely right. So much of the time women in Fantasy are busy breaking the gender molds that we don’t see much of that.

I found the new spider man movie really fun too!! (I *wish* Disney and Sony could work things out so we could get more of them!) hehehe I’m glad you liked my post and I think considering yourself a slytherpuff is cool! Two great houses!
