This Week in Reading: Some Progress, Finally

Well, I didn’t get a ton of reading done last week, just two books, but at least one of them was one I’ve been trying to read for weeks now, so yay! Other than reading last week was…interesting. Major changes at work happening faster than anticipated, but at least the phones were slow so I still managed to get a good amount of audiobook-ing in. As for print books, it’s been tough, slow progress.

One good thing that happened last week, though, was having a spur of the moment dinner with my cousin and since she’s moving and downsizing her possessions she offered to give me our grandmother’s china set! Went to pick it up on Saturday and I’m really happy with it. It’s not a valuable or pristine set, but it was my grandmother’s and it matches my dining room, so I’m excited. There’s also a lot more than I expected, but I suppose that makes sense considering how large my mom’s family is (she’s one of eight).

Also on Saturday my husband and I went to see Avengers: Endgame and it was pretty much everything I wanted it to be. Very happy with that movie. Other than that spent the weekend trying to catch up on some things around the house and some blogging stuff.

I started listening to Shards of Honor by Lois McMaster Bujold at the end of last week. This is a series various people have recommended to me for years, so when I saw it available on audio from the library I had put it on hold. Enjoying this one so far!

Straight Outta Fangton by C.T. Phipps is a review request but it’s probably good I’m not getting to it until now since I’m trying for an all-vampire card for bingo this year (we’ll see how that goes).

Continuing the vampire theme, Fledgling by Octavia Butler is a book I’m specifically reading for bingo. The only book I’ve read by Butler is Kindred, which I LOVED, so looking forward to checking out this one. This one is also on audio and I should be able to get through it this week since I’m almost halfway through Shards of Honor already.

If I get through my first print book then I’ll be starting The Last Sun by K.D. Edwards. This is a book that has been in my TBR pile since last year and it’s about time I get to it!

This week may be slightly tough since I have a company dinner on Tuesday after work, and also being light staffed at work (from now until forever now, I guess) but we’ll see how it goes. What are your plans for this week? Thoughts on mine? Leave a note in the comments, I’d love to hear from you. 🙂

I finished CROOKED KINGDOM, now trying to squeeze in STORM CURSED (Mercy Thompson) before April ends! After that it’s probably on to an Illusion of Thieves before a heavy dive into backlist for Wyrd and Wonder.

heh … I finished two books this past week (The Fated Sky and Brightness Long Ago), and am counting it as a good week for me lately. And they were both fantastic, so yay! I’ve had the Shards of Honor series recommended as well, curious to see what you think of it

I still need to read The Fated Sky as well, glad to hear you liked it! Shards of Honor is pretty interesting, feels like old school space opera in a lot of ways. I think in some things it may be a bit dated but overall it holds up well. And it’s Bujold so it’s a bit of a romance in disguise.

I don’t know any of these haha..!
I finished both my physical and audiobook yesterday, and now I have no clue what to read haha.. I guess I will read the next volume from Children of the Whales and see what I’m in the mood for after!
