Brittany’s Songs:
“The Fighter” by Kieth Urban feat. Carrie Underwood
What if I fall (I won’t let you fall)
What if I cry (I’ll never make you cry)
And if I get scared (I’ll hold you tighter)
When they’re tryna get to you baby I’ll be the fighterYou’re my only one, let me be the one
I really love Ingrid and Cy in this Beth Cato’s Blood of Earth trilogy. They fall in love really quick but they are always true to one another and steadfast in their feelings. Most of the series is them trying to keep each other from harm from all the forces that are out to get them.
“Most Girls” by Hailee Steinfeld
Some girls, feel best in their tiny dresses
Some girls, nothin’ but sweatpants, looking like a princess
Some girls, kiss new lips every single nightWe’re all just playing a game in a way, trying to win at life
Most girls are smart and strong and beautiful
Most girls, work hard, go far, we are unstoppable
Most girls, our fight to make every day
No two are the same
This song puts me in mind of Harper, the main protagonist of A Curse So Dark and Lonely by Brigid Kemmerer. It’s really a book about the heroine finding herself and her confidence and this song makes me think of that. 🙂
“Hey Brother” by Avicii
Oh, if the sky comes falling down
For you, there’s nothing in this world I wouldn’t doHey brother
Do you still believe in one another?
Hey sister
Do you still believe in love?
I wonderWhat if I’m far from home?
Oh brother, I will hear you call!
What if I lose it all?
Oh sister, I will help you out!
This song and the lyrics totally and 100% put me in mind of Record of a Spaceborn Few by Becky Chambers which is a story about the remaining peoples of a fleet of generation ships. It’s a book without much of a plot other than a to show how their lives go on as the world changes around them, changing them, as they continue to hold on to the past and their way of life. It’s a very poignant book, like all of Chamber’s work, and I think this song fits perfectly with it.
My Songs:
“Come With Me Now” by KONGOS
Woah come with me now
I’m gonna take you down
Woah come with me now
I’m gonna show you howAfraid to lose control
And caught up in this world
I’ve wasted time, I’ve wasted breath
I think I’ve thought myself to death
I don’t know what it is about this song by every time I hear it I think of The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern. I literally can not listen to this song without thinking of the book!
“Chained to the Rhythm” by Katy Perry ft Skip Marley
So comfortable, we’re livin’ in a bubble, bubble
So comfortable, we cannot see the trouble, troubleAh, so good
Your rose-colored glasses on
And party on (woo)
The song IS dystopian, so here’s a dystopian story to go with it! The Selection by Kiera Cass matches perfectly with this song because the main character is so very silly, and definitely caught up in the glitz of the palace, walking around like ‘oh, there are some rebels or something, but what about this dress???’ Ahahaha, I love these books. Someone help me. 😀
“Just a Girl” by No Doubt
Take this pink ribbon off my eyes
I’m exposed
And it’s no big surprise
Don’t you think I know
Exactly where I stand
This world is forcing me
To hold your hand
‘Cause I’m just a girl, little ol’ me
Well don’t let me out of your sight
Oh, I’m just a girl, all pretty and petite
So don’t let me have any rights
Oh, I’ve had it up to here!
Because this book is feminist as fuck. That is all. 🙂
As always, not going to tag folks, but if you like this one (and it’s quite a fun tag!) consider yourself tagged. 🙂
What a great post. I love it.
Lynn 😀
Thanks!
From what little I know about The Night Circus, Come With Me Now is NOT a song I would have associated with it, so now I’m even more curious to try the book. 😀 And I so need to try The Selection sometime! I feel like it’ll get me super ragey or giggling–so a good time, either way. 😀
Yeah, I’m not sure what it is exactly about that song and The Night Circus but for some reason my brain associates them lol. The Selection made me rage but it’s like a thing you can’t look away from. I read them all! 🤣
Thanks for doing this!!! I love this tag ❤
I will have to check out Breath of Earth! It sounds really good. I have heard such good things about A Curse So Dark and Lonely and now after your description and comparing it to that song I want to read it anymore 😀 Thanks!!
Chained to the Rhythm makes me think of Matched by Ally Condie. Not only it is a dystopian, but it is a brainwashed society where people just go with what they are told and don't question it! the tagline even fits "In the Society, officials decide. Who you love. Where you work. When you die."
Its so funny that Come With Me Now makes you think of the Night Circus. I never would have put those two together, but I am The Same way with Fighter and Saga. The brain just works in weird ways like that!
Hope you enjoy A Curse So Dark and Lonely, I thought it was a lot of fun. 🙂 I haven’t heard of Matched, I’ll have to check it out. Thanks for tagging me in this, I had a blast filling it out. 🙂
