Well, I think I’m finally getting a bit back on track with things. I’ve only got a few more ‘must read because they’re past due or almost due’ books to get through. I’m still, of course, getting distracted by other books, but as long as I’m also reading some I need to read then I think it’s the best of both worlds. I also managed to knock out a couple of more reviews from my drafts folder, but really need to concentrate on these because as much as I read, soon as I get two done I have to add three more to my drafts. O.o
Luckily I had some time to read this weekend so I finished up four books over the week. The Au Pair by Emma Rous was the first thriller I’ve read in a while! It was quite a fun ride although it did take me a little bit to get used to the narration (why did the two narrators have to sound so similar???). I did pretty much guess a lot of the twists but there were still one or two things I didn’t so that was nice. I should probably make an effort to read more thrillers in the future. I also finished up a historical romance novel (Lady Notorious by Theresa Romain) which I really loved because a) the male protagonist was not annoyingly alpha and b) the female protagonist had agency. I then also got distracted by a dystopian vampire book (I really DO have a type, lolololol), The Gilded King by Josey Jaffrey. In addition, I finished up Where Oblivion Lives by T. Frohock, should have a review of that out shortly. Huzzah!
This week I’m still working on finishing up Wagers of Fate: The 108 Stars by Noureddine Hifad and The Ruin of Kings by Jenn Lyons. I knew I wasn’t going to finish The Ruin of Kings in one week–that book is massive. I’m about a third of the way through though, so I do think I’ll be able to wrap it up this week, although I probably won’t have time to start any other audios until next week. We’ll see. It really all depends how much listening time I get in and right now I’m working on a very boring project at work so I may be able to spend a lot of time with my headphones in.
I’ll also be reading The Bird King by G. Willow Wilson since I have an ARC and this comes out very soon. Once I get this finished I’ll be all good with my netgalley requests and the only thing I’ll need to catch up on will be regular review requests and some of the books I’ve been sent for review. I’m getting there, guys! It’s happening! There is a light at the end of the tunnel! (Maybe I’ll celebrate by requesting a book on netgalley….lol)
Those are my plans, let’s hope I get through them! What is everyone else reading this week? Leave me a note in the comments, I’d love to hear from you!
