Another fun tag. I came across this one on Thrice Read and thought it would be interesting to fill out. Not sure who the original creator is, but thanks to whoever started this one!
Do you have a certain place at home for reading?
At home I like to read outside in the mornings on the weekends when the weather is nice. Barring that I have a comfy sofa in my living room that I like to curl up on with a book, or sometimes at night in bed. It all depends when I have time to get some reading in too, it’s not always feasible to read in one place or the other. I actually did a FFF post all about where I like to read, and you can check it out here.
Bookmark or random piece of paper?
Both? I have a ton of bookmarks. A lot of them I get from bookstores when I buy things. I’ve gotten several as gifts because people know I love to read. Some are even hand made! But I’ll admit I’m really terrible about carrying bookmarks around with me a lot of the times. You know what I always seem to have on me though? A random piece of paper. A receipt most likely although lately I’ve been using ticket stubs from baseball games since I always seem to have one on hand. (They’re actually the size of most bookmarks too so they work out really well!)
Can you just stop reading or do you have to stop after a chapter/a certain amount of pages?
I usually can and do just stop wherever. Sometimes I’ll try to make it to the end of a chapter, but most of the time I’m interrupted by work or getting ready to nod off and I just stop wherever I happen to be in a book. If I’m trying to finish a book in a certain amount of time I may say ‘try to get x amount of pages read before stopping’ but I don’t always stick to that.
Do you eat or drink whilst reading?
Yep! Not all of the time, but especially at work. Although usually it’s an audiobook which is much easier to do than trying to flip pages while chowing down on something. I used to take a book with me when we went out to breakfast too but then my husband was all ‘that’s rude’ and I was all ‘ok, fine’. ;P
Multitasking: Music or TV whilst reading?
I can’t really read and watch tv at the same time. Well, ok, I do but it never works out very well. If it’s a show that has a plot then I’ll either watch the show and read on commercial (if there are any) because I can’t really do both. But I do sometimes read and watch shows that are singing contests because I don’t have to keep track of much on the show.
As far as listening to music…yeah, I can do that. Although I mostly have to listen to songs without lyrics or music in another language that I can’t understand because otherwise it’s too distracting. Some music even makes it easier to concentrate. Funny how I can watch shows with songs with lyrics and I’m fine but once the headphones are in it’s a whole other story.
One book at a time or several?
I usually have between two and three books going at once. At least one audio and one print although sometimes I’ll have two print because I’ll stop in the middle of one and read a romance real quick in the middle or something. I also have four books in my ‘currently reading’ status at goodreads which I haven’t picked up in a while but I keep meaning to get back to. Even though it’s been over a year since I put down Deadhouse Gates I remember where I left off so I don’t think it’s an issue getting back into it, or any of the others I have on hold.
Reading at home or everywhere?
Everywhere! At home, on my commute, at work, during lunch break, before bed, random places. Pretty much whenever I can sneak some time in.
Read out loud or silently in your head?
Out loud as in actually out loud? No. Do I have to say each word in my head as I’m reading? Yes. I read a ton of books, but I am not a particularly fast reader because I really do have to ‘hear’ the words in my head while reading.
Do you read ahead or skip pages?
No. Do people actually do this?
Breaking the spine or keeping it like new?
Break a spine??? What are we, barbarians?
Do you write in your books?
Only if it’s a text book.
