So, as I predicted I’m still working on finishing up two books from last week’s list. At least I feel like my goal was realistic knowing how busy I was going to be. But still, I think I had a pretty good week (I did actually read more–got a bit distracted by some romance) and am ready to carry on this week and hopefully get into some new books after finishing up my two current reads.
First up, I’m still working my way through The Book of Hidden Things by Francesco Dmitri. This has been an interesting story so far. It’s told in a non-linear fashion, slowly revealing an old mystery that may be connected with a new one–the disappearance of a friend. Very much looking forward to seeing how the rest of this story goes. So far it has that ‘things are slightly off-kilter’ feeling that I just love if done well.
I also started Year One by Nora Roberts on audio. I wasn’t expecting graphic descriptions of symptoms of sick people and such and I can handle gore but for some reason medical stuff makes me a bit woozy, lol. I had to stop listening on my commute a couple of times near the beginning of the book. Still, so far this has been great. I’m enjoying all the different POV characters and there is a whole other fantasy angle that I didn’t anticipate. It’s been like Contagion meets the X-Men.
If I finish up The Book of Hidden Things, I’ll be starting in on European Travel for the Monstrous Gentlewoman by Theodora Goss. So excited to get to this one as I quite enjoyed the first book in the series. It’s a huge tome (so big) and I fully don’t expect to get very far into it this week.
After Year One, I’ll be diving into The Spirit Thief by Rachel Aaron. This is another book I picked up during one of the last audible sales and I’m quite looking forward to it. I’ve read several books by Rachel Aaron now and I dig her writing, plus I’ve heard great things about this series from some of my friends.
So, those are my reads for this week. What is everyone else reading? Leave me a note in the comments, I’d love to hear from you!
