New Arrivals!

It’s been a little bit since I’ve posted a book haul and the past month has been fantastic–the new books just keep coming in! In part this has been because June and July have so many great new releases, and even more are on the way.

Look at all those lovely spines! ❀

Starting from the bottom, we have Starless by Jacqueline Carey. This is a new standalone epic fantasy. I read this one pretty much as soon as it arrived because I love Carey’s work and I was anticipating it so very much. I really liked it! Review can be found here.

Next up is Summerland by Hannu Rajaniemi. This is a sort of historical SFF story. Apparently there’s a metropolis where people can live when they die? And some of the great powers of the time are vying for control of it. This book sounded intriguing, but also that cover really got me. (I’m a sucker for covers….)

Trail of Lightning by Rebecca Roanhorse has been one of my other ‘most anticipated’ books that’s come out recently. This is a post-apocalyptic urban fantasy. I’m currently reading this one and it’s great so far, I really love the voice of the author.

I picked up The Last Sun by K. D. Edwards after seeing some posts about it around the blog-o-sphere. Atlanteans, investigating a mystery…this one sounds like just my kind of fun and I’m looking forward to getting to it.

Rabbit and RobotΒ by Andrew Smith is my only ARC in the pile this time around. Much thanks to Simon & Schuster for sending it my way. This book is a YA science fiction novel about a couple of boys stranded on a lunar cruise ship after a war on Earth pretty much destroys the place. First off, this has to be one of my favorite covers ever, I’m totally in love with it. Secondly, the premise sounds intriguing and I need more sci-fi in my life. It’s got some great reviews so far and I’m looking forward to diving into it. Rabbit and Robot comes out September 25th.

The Shores of Spain is the third book in J. Kathleen Cheney’s Golden City trilogy. I just finished reading the second book so I thought I’d pick up the third so I can complete the series soon. I really love Cheney’s work, and The Golden City was the first book I read from her. She writes a great blend of fantasy, romance, and mystery which are three things I love. These books take place in Portugal in the early 20th century and feature sirens and selkies.

Another book I’ve really been looking forward to is TheΒ Calculating Stars by Mary Robinette Kowal, the first of her Lady Astronaut series. I’ve read several of her Glamourist Histories books and I really liked Ghost Talkers as well. She’s a great feminist writer, always showing women in different roles in society and saying ‘why not this as well?’, which I love. So, this is another sci-fi book where it’s a race to space to save mankind (and womankind) from destruction here on Earth. Can’t wait to dive into this one.

Finally, I picked up Lady Henterman’s Wardrobe and The Holver Alley Crew by Marshall Ryan Maresca. I’d been meaning to pick these up for a while and was on a bit of a book buying binge (whoops). These seem like fun and fast reads, easy to munch popcorn to, and perfect for summer reading. Heists! Hijinks! Bring it on. πŸ™‚

Look at these pretty covers!!!

Ah, some of these covers are just beyond wonderful. I am really in love with the chaos in that Rabbit & Robot cover. The Calculating Stars and Summerland are also very appealing to me (I must have a thing for silhouettes, haha). Pictures of the Trail of Lightning cover don’t do it justice, the lightning is all shimmery in person–I’m really impressed with it. Which one is your favorite of these?

Well, that’s it for now. I also have a bunch of ebooks and audiobooks I’ve added to my virtual stack but might do a separate post as this one is already getting pretty long. πŸ™‚

Happy reading!
